Nice pic, Johnb.  Did you wear your customary kilt after the walk?
How does the transition from Surrey to Shropshire suit you?
Surrey to Lincolnshire for me has been great.
Are you still active in BN?
John

I was dressed "normally" with long trousers and so forth before the walk, but to save hopping around whilst putting my trousers back on afterwards, I put a homemade wraparound skirt, which I would have used a a quick cover up if necessary. The move to Shropshire has overall been very good, and there is plenty of scope for walking up here.

Regarding BN, I had to step down from my previous roles within the LASER region when we moved, and am now in the N.W one, which covers a larger area. Craven Arms is a long way from from where many of the meetings regarding the running of the region are held, so at present my involvement is very limited.

Having moved up to Shropshire last September, I finally managed one afternoon last week to do a naked walk. Whilst the weather was general kind when we first arrived up here, we were busy settling in and finding our way around. Then winter arrived the weather was generally less favourable, and when it would have been ok I was usually locked into something else. Anyway on a day with temperatures in to low double figures, I found time in the afternoon to drive to the Wenlock Edge, and do a simple out and back walk of an hour. I didn't see anyone on the walk, and despite the fresh breeze which was mitigated to an extent by some equally naked trees I felt quite warm. I'm now looking forward to future excursions. The attached picture was taken at the end of the walk.

I hope you will have a very happy time in Shropshire.  Bit different from Surrey, I presume?
Why the move... if I may be allowed to exercise my inquisitive tendencies?

John

Thanks for your good wishes. It is a bit different to Surrey, rather less populated for one thing. The move was mainly to get closer (but not too close) to my son and his wife, who live in Salford. His health is poor and his wifes isn't great, so by being that bit closer its easier to assist them when necessary.

I haven't been around much for a long while. I last looked in here before today was on August 9th when I commented on a post by Milfmog. For the last few years I been busy on British Naturism matters, which have taken up a lot of the time I might otherwise have spent browsing and posting on this site. Also fairly extensive house building around where I used to live, ruled out my going short naked walks in the areas. So walking in more recent times has either been meant going further afield by car, usually with a friend, or going on the organized Naturist ramblers (Nat Ram) walks.

We moved to a small town Shropshire, three weeks ago. That means I will cease having any involvement in running the London and South East Region of BN, in a weeks time, although I shall still be a member. An initial 90min textile walk (I've only had time for one so far) along with some studying of O.S maps, indicates that prospect for naked walking are very good. So depending on the weather, I hope to get out and about and at least find some routes for future use.

All of the above means that you will probably hear more from me, if not in the immediate future, then in the slightly long term.

We're both members at Spielplatz in Bricket Wood.

I wouldn't want to inflict BN's internal politics on anyone but I think we do a lot of useful stuff too, and the events (The Gathering, Nudefest, Splashdown and the rest) are great fun!

Hi Nigel, I think that's a fair summary of the situation at BN :).

I also have thought about visiting Speilplatz, but its a long way around the M25 :(.

Hi Ian, its the first time I've logged in here for ages, and the first thing I come across is one of your posts which are always an enjoyable and inspiring read. Thanks for taking the trouble to write it up.

Free Range Naturism / Re: Encounters...what to do?

Two recent encounters, both whilst walking with a male friend and doing reece walks, ahead of two different Naturist Ramblers walks, showed that reactions can vary and not necessarily the way you might expect.

On the first occasion we saw a woman, probably in her fifties, looking for a dog which had just run off for a few minutes. We had time to cover up, but when we got up to her she said that we shouldn't have bothered as it would have made her day. She asked if had seen her dog, and we hadn't at that time. We carried on walking and uncovered again once we were clear, then saw the dog, which was heading in her direction, and called to let her know, and she gave us a friendly wave of thanks.

On the second occasion we met a man (probably also fifty years old or more) with a dog, but without any time to cover up. He didn't look very happy, and didn't return our greeting as we passed.

I can only conclude based on the above, and other past encounters, that there is no reason to assume that one involving a woman is likely to be any more difficult than with a man.

Amazingly good way to 'recover' from a funeral.
I note you have a knobblier stick than 10 years ago ( :) ) and perhaps fitter, browner and leaner too!

John

I suspect there would have been a stick somewhere nearby when the original picture was taken. I do seem to have lost some weight in between the two pictures. Although it wasn't particularly on my mind at the time, I guess a funeral does encourage you to make the most of the own time on this earth. A popular sticker you see on many Land Rovers says "One Life Live It" which is a good principle to follow, so long as its not too self centred.

Thanks for the report and pictures John P. It was a shame that the weather wasn't a little kinder to us, still it was an enjoyable walk with some good company.

Trip reports / A Short Walk from Droke
« on: April 22, 2016, 10:30:29 PM »
On Wednesday this week I managed my first Naturist walk of 2016. I had to go funeral at Chichester Crematorium at 12.30hrs, which called for me to be smartly dressed in a suit. Given the fine weather forecast I wondered whether I might get a chance to do a walk in the South Downs on my way home. The problem would be in finding somewhere to change from a suit, to clothing suitable to walk in to get clear of the car park, and which could then be easily removed for the walk proper, all without spoiling the said suit. I nearly decided that it wasn't going to be worth the bother, but fortunately I did take some walking boots, cover up skirt, and a polo shirt with me.

Having left the the hotel where we had hard refreshments following the funeral service, I decided that the best place to park and change, with the least chance of being disturbed was Droke, a small parking area on a quiet road, a mile or so from East Dean. Its actually on the route of what was SOC's Charlton Forest walk. When I reached the car park there was just one other vehicle parked there, and nobody was around. With the Land Rover parked with its bonnet towards the road, I quickly changed by the back door.

With the breeze wafting pleasantly around my legs, thanks to the skirt, I crossed the road and set off up a bridleway going north. Soon after I was out of sight of the road, I reached a green space, which is normally the tea stop on the aforementioned walk, and stripped off. It wasn't possible to work out a circular walk in the time I had available, so I just went out and back, with a photo stop at the green space on the way back. It was pleasantly warm in sun. Most of the walk was on wide tracks through what was predominately a beech wood. A roe deer stopped for a few moments on the track ahead of me at one stage, before spotting me and turning back into the trees. Later on my way back, several of them in a group, crossed the track some way ahead of me.

Regarding the photo stop, I recalled that this place was actually where I went on one of my first solo naturist walks back in 2006. The following picture was taken on the 26th April of that year.

Ten years later, on the 20th April, in more or less the same spot, here I am again.

Overall I was very pleased that I did take my "walking kit" with me, and that I was able to make the most of the opportunity and enjoy an hours naked walking.

You could attend wearing just a black tie :)

I should add that whilst most will be naked, it is actually clothes optional, should anyone want to bring a non-participating spouse or partner.

Time to finish off last years (2015) figures, and bring things up to date.

November
Walks x 2 - total time = 50min

Driving x 4 - total time = 6.5hrs

December
Working in woods x 3 - total time = 4hrs.

Can I finish by wishing everyone here on this board a Happy and Naked New Year,

John

For anyone who fancies an evenings indoor Naturism, the annual SOC walkers dinner in on Wednesday 20th January. As it says in the text, you don't need to be a member of SOC, or even a walker to attend.

The information below about this event was provided by Steve Allott, the organiser.

The Seventh Annual SOC Walkers Dinner takes place on Wednesday, 20 January 2016 and once again we are grateful to The Oxford in Kentish Town, North West London for agreeing to host our event. We have hired the upstairs room with its own bar, restaurant and toilet facilities from 6pm and we expect to finish around 10pm.

The dinner is open to all SOC members and their partners/friends and to anyone else who is interested in finding out more about the SOC walks (or anyone who just likes to have a good time).

Speakers
Our guest speaker for the 2016 SOC Naturist Walkers Dinner is (TBC).

Afternoon visit to RIOs
As before some people may choose to meet and relax at the nearby RIOs health spa during the afternoon. It is open from 11am. Sorry, we have tried and are unable to negotiate a group discount, however the spa is excellent value - it has been refurbished recently and boasts 3 steam rooms, 2 saunas, 3 jacuzzis, a small swimming pool and a large TV lounge; the entry price includes unlimited free soft drinks, tea, coffee and biscuits (there is a small charge for sandwiches and toasties which must be ordered and paid for when you arrive). You are entitled to bring your own alcohol and store it in their fridge behind the bar should you so wish. You can also drink it as well! Please contact RIOs directly for current prices.

Dinner Format
The evening will kick off with drinks in the secluded upstairs bar at 6pm followed by a sit down dinner (don't forget your towels) at approx 7:30pm. If you arrive early you are of course welcome to have a drink downstairs.
Once again we have decided to order from a specially prepared menu which will keep down the costs and offer a good choice for vegetarians. Please advise us as soon as possible if you have any specific dietary requirements.
The menu at The Oxford is seasonal and is changed every week. We will email you to ask for your choices closer to the time. We expect to finish no later than 10pm.

Music
If you want to hear your favourite songs please bring along your iPOD or iPhone which can be hooked up into the bar's sound system.

Hotels
We will be happy to recommend or book hotel accommodation for you in the locality should you require it.

We hope you can make it. Best,Stephen Allott"
