Factory Farmed Naturism / Re: A time and place for a resort

There are two place where tunneling was started. The mine you may be referring to  is near the remains of a foundation that once was a house. To the west a little is excavation in a hill. The road swings to the west of the hill. The mining was for feldspar. My maps showed the whole area as part of a wild life preserve. If you go to the flat topped butte just south and west of the towers you can find small pieces of white agate and quartz. The butte is basalt on top of sandstone. It is quite a view form the top. I saw a big horned sheep there once. You can see the sand dune from the road that goes past the radio tower. I always wanted to climb the taller mountains just north of the tower.

Have fun hiking out there bring plenty of water.

Jay when I hike there, I rarely saw anyone north and east the camp. I hiked there for about six years. Usually two to three times a week. I would spend the day roaming the back country looking for interesting places to draw and paint. A few times I did see textiles. Once I was shot at by some fools target practicing up slope. They got the pleasure of meeting one very angry naked man. That was on an Easter Sunday. The Grandpa was covering the eyes of a little boy. I guess he did want the kid to see what angry really looks like.

My life has change form going down once a month. to never in the last three years. Each year I tell myself I will go down. Work takes most of my time.

Like a few others I refuse to give information just to enter a site to see pictures. When you press that enter button, who knows what may have been sent to your PC, tab or phone. To top it off, it is likely all the images were lifted  or taken from many other sites. I have noticed the same pictures on many sites.

Eyesup, I agree It was shared space. Each learned how to make do with what was given. We learned how to have private space even in a crowded bed and bedroom. It was communal. Most of my friends live in similar circumstances. Privacy was in the mind not a physical thing. Even in grade school I remember all of the boys lined up in our underwear for a physical.  There was nothing private with what the doc did. No one giggled or complained.

It wasn't until much later when I hear fellow students complain about having to under and share space in the gym shower. Those students grew up living in bedrooms all to them selves.

I believe this is when the demise of nudism and naturism started. Even traditional art education has suffered. Many college now avoid life drawing. There are now many art teacher who cannot draw the human form or understand  it. These thing started to face hard times in the mid 70's as kids who could not deal with seeing nudity came of age.

Bob I do not believe the rise of gay identity or child molesters  cause of ending nude swimming at the YMCA, Boy's Club and other places. I remember a hard push to include girls into sports. The name Boy's Club faded from the American landscape as Coed became to new goal. At the same time new found privacy caused boys and girls to feel shame if they were seen by others.

I grew up in poverty. My brothers and I shared a bed and room. Private was a thing I did not know. My mom had to support the family. The stuff I saw on TV in the late 50' on into the 60's did not match the life I knew. The Boy's Club was a safe place to spend time after school while waiting for my mom to come home from work. Sadly the club was sold. A college expanded on the site. My brothers and I were left with no place to go except the street.

The down fall of nude swimming is a product of a middle class life style that attempted to mirror the upper classes. The upper classes wear swim suites, had private bed rooms, personal bathrooms and so on. Add to this the inclusion of girls into activities once only for boys. Nude swimming was doomed.

I'm sorry I do not care about the photos on tumbler. They have nothing to do with this subject.

The end of May my 82 year old mother paid a visit. On Memorial weekend my wife, mom and I drove from central Montana through the northern route of Yellowstone and over the Beartooth Pass.  The Beartooth pass opened the day before. The last leg of the route over the Beartooth was at sunset. While I drove, I talked about things that happened in my childhood. My mom was hard at work refashioning the past into a new thing that did not match with what I experienced. In the conversation I disclosed the fact that my brothers and I swam naked in the Boy’s Club pool. In fact all the boys I knew did. It was the way it was. We each paid a dime. The dime was exchange for a clean towel. All clothes were stashed in an open locker. All my chums lined up naked at the pool door. A fellow rubbed each boy’s wrist to check for cleanliness.
My mom expressed shock upon learning her sons did such a thing. I was taken back by her response. This was a different woman than the one I had as a mother. She is not the only one who expresses disbelief at the thought of a time when swimming naked at the Boy’s Club, YMCA and other pools was the norm for boys and men.
My experience with skinny dipping or nude swimming at the Boy’s Club was my first exposure to social nudism. The experiences then have stuck with me.
Recently I found this site that explore the period I knew. Like the author I am dismayed by how quickly the near past is remade into something different than what was.
Here is a link to the site.

No Jim you do not want to head south. That salt cedar marsh would be hell to walk.  I know a place where there are pottery shard and so on. Most of the naturist leave it all alone because very few venture off campus. Even fewer walk any real distance into the highland desert.

You and I were suppose to meet back in may of 2013 at De Anza for hiking. Things fell apart on my end. I am sorry for that.

You head down stream Or you go north. Upper part of stream is chocked with salt cedar. You see that when driving into De Anza.

Yes that bridge is a ruin.

I used to share the tracks with bikers.

Here is a map.

The stream you asked directions to is in the gorge. To get to it walk toward Dave's house (owner of resort) a little beyond his place there is a road that leads to the train tracks. Walk north a long the tracks. Cross a bridge keep going until you come to the first tunnel. Before the tunnel is a trail. that leads down into the start of the gorge. Note the trails is not easy to see. You can hear the water but not see it. Follow along the wall of the gorge. Keep in mind the area has cats claw and salt cedar growing. Vegetation will open up to smooth  rock floor and deep pools of water. You can walk as far as you wish in the bottom of the gorge. Palms grow farther down stream.

This photo was taken years ago. My step son used to hike with me at De Anza. This picture gives you an idea the what part of the gorge looks like down stream.  I have more pictures of the area.

Exhibitionism is a form of abuse. Sharing thoughts and opinions  when not asked can be a form of abuse. The person on the receiving end often makes the judgement. Exhibitionism like over sharing often results in people avoiding the person known to be an over sharer. The same for exhibitionism. It is the question of the best way to achieve a goal.  The cure for over sharing is showing real interest in others. Learn who they are ask questions that get them talking. Learn where there is common ground. Use the common ground as the place to build understanding. Being smart is far better than using force. Exhibitionism is devising ways of forcing ones self onto others. Often there is a sexual note actual or imagined in exhibitionism.

Over sharing usually happens in social situation requiring small talk with people you just met.  Over sharing is telling people your total life story. It is verbal nudity. People who are passionate about a hobby, political point of view, life style and so on tend to over share.

What I dislike with many so called nudist sites  and site on Flicker is the rampant lifting of photos from other sites and the too many sexually suggestive images. Most of these are young women posed in such away that is suited for a pin-up calendars.

Sharing nude images of self with those who signed up for your feed is not over sharing. But throwing nude pictures of self out on to sites can be a form of exhibitionism.

I have been a paying member of De Anza. I also have been a long time visitor. It is one of the few nudist resorts that offer nearly unlimited free range hiking. Many times I paid my five dollar parking fee, left my clothes in the car and walk off the resort into the desert. It is where I learned to hike without a net. I carried food, water and camera sometimes art supplies. Many times my dog Lucy came with me. The area has issues with border crossers. Many times I passed the border patrol. Sometimes they would ask if I saw anything unusual. Never, did they make an issue about nudity.

De Anza is one of the few nudist resorts that did not care that I was a single male, had tats and rings. As long as I showed respect for the rules and others I was A Okay. I played volley Ball in the pool and card with the long timers. The hot tub was the place to meet others.
In Montana I have no such place to go. It is up to me to find places to free range hike. To be honest I have little respect for most of the clubs. I was turned away by many. I understand many club got burned because of sexual freedoms explored in the late sixties and seventies.
The internet does not help. It has added to the confusion about sex and nudism. For every true nudist and naturist site there are 20 fakes pushing soft and hard porn and hookups.

The best I have are a few sites that are home to some likeminded thinkers. Free ranging naturists are like artists, both need support groups. The general population doesn’t understand either group. The best to be done is educate.

Image is of me climbing rock somewhere near De Anza.

I joined "True Nudist" a year or so ago. I grew bored with one to three word responses. I am a creature that enjoys conversation even written.  The many propositions form men and women lacked anything creative. After being hit up too many times by those seeking hook ups, I left.  I now avoid almost all sites claiming to be naturist or nudist. As others have pointed out, if the site sports too many pictures of nude young ladies, you can be sure it is not a real naturist site.  Most of us seem to be older.

Back to personality traits. I joined a few classes on Creative Live. One was on personality types and how to turn your personality into a winning asset. In the course a link was given to a site that charted personality traits. After answering a list of a 100 question, maybe more, my personality was charted. This test is the real thing, not one of those things on Facebook. I fell smack on the high point of being open.

Being an open personality wasn't a surprise. I talk loud, often using my hands. Love stories. I have always been an explorer of life. Nudity always is there. Even to being a life model to pay college bills.  I chalked some of it up to being in the arts.

I shares way too much. Teaching art out of my studio proved challenging. I saw nothing wrong with all the nudes on my walls. Living in a very conservative town, I soon learned my students, while they wanted to learn, could not grasp the sources that inspired my drive to acquire drawing and painting skills.  Interestingly I had some nuns who loved my classes.

While I have had to teach myself to be more careful in sharing. I refuse to trade my personality for something less interesting.  Nudity is part of my personality.  It is part of being open. Whether seeking like minded open personalities is a key means for spreading naturism, I can not say.  There is a dark side to the open personality, that is being a little paranoid. It leads to questions: like am I over sharing, did I share with the wrong person or God did I post something that was too honest.  Product of being burnt I guess.

Trip reports / Re: The Gila Box trip: Part I

Head gasket jobs get expensive.  Summer heat can add fuel to a failing cooling system.  Old trick to help cool system is to run the heater on high. Not easy to do when outside temps are in 80's, 90's or higher. I work for a major delivery company. My van's cooling system often reached to danger zone. Drove with heat full blast, windows down, while dust from dirt roads billowed in to cab. End of day I had to sweep out all the dust in van.

Carnuding requires not caring what other drivers may see. Most drivers don't see much. They are distracted by their gadgets, friends, family or pets. They are not focused on other cars or drivers. Most professional drivers drive alone. We tend to focus on other drivers who are not driving safely. Or sometimes people watch out of being bored.

When I am carnuding my biggest fear is a flat tire. I have a pair of short stashed in my car.  They have been there a long time. I have not had situations requiring wearing the safety net. My flat tires happened on back roads. I changed tires naked.

I love reading your blog JB
