A Nudist is someone who likes to be nude.
A Naturist is someone who likes to be nude and make speeches.

I read that article a few days ago. I was annoyed by the contempt expressed by the author.
We visited that area this summer. We stayed at Cypress Cove. It was relaxing but felt like a timewarp back to the late seventies. My wife was not happy there. Lake Como looked worse in their promotional material. I wonder if my wife would like the more modern amenities of Caliente, and if we could ignore the swingers.

What was the pretext to the Houston ride? They are to protest oil dependence originally, but you all seemed to be just enjoying a naked adventure, sort of protesting anti-dudes/promoting nekkid. Sounds like something that I would enjoy, either way.

Not sure about Houston but here in Boston we do try to keep oil dependence a central topic of our ride. Every rider is free to bring their own cause. As a group we also steer toward  "body acceptance", "bicycle/pedestrian safety", and "gender equality". We always try to be a "pro-test" meaning we advocate for something, not against something. Keeping the mood uplifting and positive.

I have been involved with the " World Naked Bike Ride" for over ten years. I have been an organizer and participant in both Boston MA and Montpelier VT. Montpelier is just too far and too small of a ride for me to continue with. Boston has been great. They usually have little tolerance for nudity, often shutting down top-freedom protests but have been very accepting of us for some reason.
Philly in the OP article is one of the biggest rides in the world, often attracting thousands of riders. It's on my bucket list to attend.
You can find a list of most of the rides here. At it's peak the WNBR had events in over 75 cities around the world. It seems to be slowing now, not from outside forces but from the lack of organizational support. It's a lot of work to keep these going.
I've only heard of one location being permanently(?) shut down by police. New York City of all places.

I've done a fair amount of nude cycling (but wearing a helmet). WNBRs in Montpelier VT and Boston MA for many years. Always a good time! The helmet debate is a tricky one. If you go simply with the statistics, we should all be wearing helmets while walking too. Helmets are most applicable for young children and competitive cyclists. Relaxed riding is far less dangerous than walking.
That said I almost always wear a helmet when riding, out of habit from when I was competitive.

JBeeGoode, Yes the ride was a great pleasure and the effort made the destination seem that much sweeter.

John P, I'm not sure the history of Pilgrim but they seem like a nice enough group from the two encounters I've had. Sorry if I veered off scope. Some time I would like to join you and Dan for another hike but it is rather difficult to get away right now and my spot from last time is no longer suitable.

BlueTrain, I have not yet viewed JP's trip report below but my trip seemed to have equal parts male/female, maybe a few more women.

Tomorrow's (Sunday) adventure will see me on the bicycle again. This time north bound to NH's Hampton beach to meet up with some friends as they run the local "Go Topless day" protest. Always been legal in NH (except Laconia) but not known until 2015. We protest in support of those where women don't yet have the option.

I thought it was time I posted again.

This past weekend I managed to complete an adventure to the accepted C/O beach in Aquinnah, Martha's Vineyard, MA. My adventure was highlighted by a few hours of freedom wandering this beach and also included a long car trip, a ferry ride and an extended bike ride. Only the beach was enjoyed clothes free.
I planned my trip to coincide with a trip organized by the Pilgrim travel club. That way I could expect at least a few like-minded folks on the beach.

As a avid cyclist, the bike ride was a major goal of the trip. I drove to the Palmer lot in Falmouth MA. where I was able to bike on a path to the ferry terminal in Woods Hole. The ferry ride to the island was smooth and enjoyable. Upon leaving the ferry island-side I noted the Pilgrim group loading in a van to cross to Aquinnah. I instead climbed onto the bike again for the 20ish mile island crossing. There is a network of bike lanes and paths that make for a lovely ride most of the way.

When I reached Aquinnah, I headed up to the lighthouse first for a quick photo, then down to the beach. At the sand I turned right and walked to the cliffs, where I spotted the Pilgrim sign. I was relieved to remove the tight-sweaty bike shorts on this hot and humid day. Overall I spent close to 3 hours enjoying the broken sun on the beach. Moshup Beach is known for its steep red clay cliffs at the west end of the local public beach. There are often clothed visitors that wander up to see the cliffs and the butts.

By late afternoon it was time to pack up for the return trip retracing the route of paths and ferry. I was really lucky as the forecast had called for showers and maybe a thunderstorm throughout the day. The storms put on a beautiful light show for the ferry, but held a safe distance until back to the car. I will certainly make this trip again. With luck a few of my friends from Boston's "World Naked Bike Ride" will join in the next time.

Hi John, It's funny you mention meeting. If I'm not mistaken, we have. Did you ever go hiking with Dan on MA's north shore, maybe 3 or so years ago? I was the one that invited him up that day. I recognize your hat. Too bad that spot has gotten too busy most days for a little freehiking. I stopped going there.
Sadly, last year my only outside nudie fun was helping with Boston's best WNBR yet. Oh and a very relaxing week in the Caribbean.

Nicknames: I started using Natureboy on forums because my wife calls me that sometimes, or "Earth-crunchy" because I tend to think eco-friendly. So Natureboy will get my attention. I sign J- which is my first initial.

Happy New Year,
I go by Natureboy1776 on a number of other forums. I remember Karla and Stuart from IYNO which I aged out of a few years ago. I have visited their site many times but never noticed the forum here until a few days ago. There are a few other names here I recognize. (like FreewalkerMA - Hi Dan). We have hiked together a couple times. I'm located in the frozen north-east US and don't get much free range nudie time this time of year.
I've been a practicing naturist for nearly a decade now and a volunteer for the Boston WNBR since 2012.
It's great to meet you all.
J-
