Clothing brands and retailers should pay a penny on every garment they sell to fund a £35m annual recycling scheme.

That's the view of MPs, who say "fast fashion" is a major contributor to greenhouse gases, water pollution, air pollution and over-use of water.

But, of course, the MP's solution to a problem is MORE TAXES rather than to allow and encourage people just to take off their filthy rags.

Quite so.  Listening to this stuff today I remarked to my wife that the solution to the worlds clothing problems is obvious - everyone should adopt naturism!
"Huh! You would say that" was the response! :D

My underwear last five to ten years.

I have socks that are twenty and thirty years old.

I have new and used shirts. I keep the ones that I really want, that have lasting fashion durability. I cold water, gentle wash my clothing if possible and hang it up out of UV and out of my dryer, so they don't wear out as soon. Things last two or three times longer if they are not placed in a dryer.

If I wear something for a coupe of hours and then take it off, I wear it again and again and sometimes again. I smell clothing first. I set it aside and rotate use with other clothing. People might assume that it has been washed, but it doesn't wear out. I have lots of clothing options, so things don't get  worn as often. If I have to wear something, then I want to enjoy it as best that I can.

More than anything, I am nude. I drop my clothing as I walk in the door, putting it on is about the last thing before leaving. That is if I have to wear clothes out. Sitting in clothing for long periods like cross country driving wears them out, an dwe all know how uncomfortable and impractical they can be.

Yep.  Last time I had underwear was twenty years ago.

One of these years I'll toss out my sox.   I never use them any more.

I still have to wear shirts in town, but I have a whole closet full from days gone by.  I really ought to toss most of them out.

Hanging for a few days lets most of the body oils, etc., evaporate so the shirt doesn't need washing unless you spilled food on it while eating.

All winter I wear a fleece jacket and sweat pants.  I wear the same ones for 3-5 days before washing.  If I lived in Arizona I would be naked more often all year.
