Nude vs. Clothed
« on: September 05, 2019, 11:09:59 PM »
Preaching to the choir, but fun.

https://thefreerangenaturist.org/2019/09/05/nude-vs-clothed/

Clothes just can't compare. They just can't win. They are just for protection and even then can't compare very well.

They get ripped, but can they repair themselves? They wash, but such a hassle and an expense of time and energy. They are good when it's cold, but as soon as the temps go back up....

Bet ya can't read it without wanting to get your clothes off.

I'm certainly bias, but the truth is obviously presented and I'm convinced that clothing loses the contest.

I love it;  wandering around in nature, being as natural as I can be,  the humid heat of summer makes clothing stupid.  Then when it's just right,  clothing is still stupid.  Only when it's too cold does clothing make any sense.  Unfortunately those around me think otherwise, so I have to put up with their opinions and conform to their expectations to some degree in order to get along without friction.     I love to live amid live growing things.  And I enjoy eating the fruits of them.   So much that for a long time,  all my life really,  I've wanted to do it full time,  but our winter does not lend itself to it very well.

On my 6th greenhouse attempt,  but for years I've been searching for some way to heat a greenhouse all winter without running up an energy bill on unrenewable resources.  Both for monetary reasons and moral reasons I can't do it unless the energy is free of cost and non polluting,   But lately the solution has come along.  So I'm heading for the greenhouse trade,  both for profit and for a winter hangout,  for healthy diet and Eden style living.  I can put one or more units into production for profit,  but I want one or more just to grow a variety of interesting tropical fruits and winter garden.  Maybe in time I can put one way back on my mountainside and designate it exclusively naturist zone. It will be hard to do that with the first ones I make up front, too many fabric moralists around to get away with it.   Although I can make the doors to lock from the inside so I can free work when I'm alone at least.     I would also enjoy helping others get their own free running greenhouse setup going.  At least with the information I've collected in how to go about it.   They will cost money to build and set up.  Good bit of money.  But the design can be tweaked to run fully independent of outside energy input in both heating and cooling.  Which if run with a for-profit crop can make them very profitable.  Or run as a huge sunroom with no extra expense.

There's also nude versus naked.

Please, explain the difference. We'll have a grand debate on the better of the two. Off hand, I think that there is something to be said for both, depending on definition.

The difference, in English, is whatever you want it to be. In French and German, there is only one word for both of them. There are, however, different words that mean 'undressed,' curiously. It is interesting that these days, the use of either word is avoided when referring to social nudist organizations and in this country, always has been, at least nationally. It is remarkable that the American Sunbathing Association changed its name to the American Association of Nude Recreation. I'm not sure that any landed nudist club has nude as part of its name. There are also no official nude beaches anywhere in the country; they're clothing-optional.

If you happen to see another undressed person somewhere outside, what's the first word that comes to mind?

I think I've said this before, here, but I like this definition of the terms:

Nude means you're not wearing anything, and are comfortable with it.
Naked means you're not wearing anything, and are feeling somewhat vulnerable.
Nekkid means you're not wearing anything and you're up to something!

In actual use, nude seems to be used in more formal situations (nude model, artistic nude, etc.), while naked is the more everyday term. There are exceptions to both, though (Live! Nude! Girls!) so they're close to interchangeable. A lot of times, it seems to depend on what the speaker wants to imply, nude being used when the nakedness is being downplayed, and naked when it's being emphasized (e.g., nude woman vs. naked harlot even when talking about the same situation).

The definition seems to also vary as to who is using the term and when. In nudist/naturist circles the definition may be more strict applicable to the group speak.

A thing got to me on the way to drop DF at the airport the other day. There is a new "gentleman's club" down there. People use "nude, live, girls" making "nude" a totally different context in a different culture. It is like they use "gentleman" to class it up, when guys go to those places to act like anything but a gentlemen's behavior.
