Costuming Nude

Sometimes, one needs a costume and doesn't want to get dressed. Sometimes, they enjoy accessorizing, or dressing up. Sometimes...who needs a reason?

That report verges on the edge of "Too much information"!!!  ;D :o ::)
I have to say I have a long time aversion to "fancy dress" parties.  If I absolutely have no choice but to go to one, I try to be as minimalist as possible with the fancy dress.  In former years I just used to stick a square of black tape under my nose and do nazi salutes as Hitler for the 1st 10 minutes and when the tape dropped off I eschewed dressing up altogether.  More recently the opportunities to dress up for a party have become mercifully vanishingly few and the impersonation of nazis has become societally verboten.  So the square of tape has become an oblong,  accompanied by a pair of round glasses and a plastic cigar - ta daaa...Groucho!  Mind you the recognition of the Marks Bros in the younger generation has become surprisingly more rare, making the costume and attendant Groucho aphorisms, rather puzzling to those 40 and under!  Hey ho, I mourn the passing of great talent.

Even Groucho would sometimes paint his stash on. Him not recognizable is bizarre. I used to go to the Saturday Matinee and see those three when they were old movies. My son watch them with me. I guess they get no play or exposure because the market wouldn't be able to fully capitalize on them at this point. There was some snafu about them being violent, or something several years ago. Yup, they didn't teach social graces.

Yes, the Marx brothers were hugely funny and I remember them being fairly regularly on TV in my pre teen years ('50's to '60s) and I recall being taken to a small cinema for a private showing of Night at the Opera for a friend's birthday party.  Evidently the birthday boy's dad had obtained the film himself and rented the cinema so that we kids could be exposed to what the father considered high culture in comedy!!  Good for him I say.  That I remember this 60 years on is a testament to the effectiveness of his indoctrination!!
Recent viewings of the Mark Bros clips on You tube has sadly confirmed that their humour as become somewhat dated and stale and indeed the vaudeville element of the films with a speciality act somewhere along the way and Chico and Harpo doing their musical spots and the tenor doing a romantic song, is not a film genre that is really recognised today, perhaps for the worse.

Somewhere along the way, I read that Groucho always painted his moustache on for the movies, and only grew one for real when he began hosting "You Bet Your Life" on TV.

Makes sense. You read that? Then it is verified to me. I'd think it like clown paint and a real person.

Yes, I think that's true.
