Short Walks 1: Morning Greetings
« on: February 18, 2024, 07:41:50 PM »
I got one of those passing dick in the dirt illness this week...No test, but lots of us got it and tested positive for Covid that attended some parties....The The Tucson Gem (Germ) and Mineral Show brings something to us each year. So, I wrote several shorts, when I could sit up, the other day. It's White Mountain Retreat stuff from last summer. They are about taking short walks, naked, sometimes barefoot all over, how it feels, benefits and happenings. There's four of them. They'll pop out here over the next couple or three weeks.

I suppose that they are each topics and this topic is: NAKED MORNING GREETINGS. Short walks that I have know....

Topics to follow will be: 2.A Trip Report 3. How they tend to, at times, extend spontaneously 4. Barefoot, taking the feet out to play, Zen of it.
Considering how topic drift is like herding cats around here, I'll ask anyhow. Can we wait until the other 3 topics are published, before addressing them? I think that there could be some fun discussion and info in this as they come through. I just can't flush a bunch through at once at the website and then, go stagnate.

 Otherwise, thanks, enjoy,

I started the process of placing it all to push the button to past and found that I couldn't place pictures into the text. I've been n with Wordpress helping. I may be that I'll have to replace my operating system. Very frustrated at this point, I don't know when I'll have the website continuing....

Glad that you liked it. I've been letting things go, until I can get something more inspired out, rather than pushing it each week...but now this....Oh well.give time time.

How frustrating!  We all want our IT to "just work" and it does mostly, until something goes wrong and you're down the rabbit hole into wonderland where topsy turvy is king.  Sorry you're having tech trouble, Jbee.  Now,.... very important....is your website backed up somewhere safe (or just alternative)?  There's a HUGE archive now and not only you but WE would be devastated if it disappeared.  After all that authoring work and attaching photos.....
At least if you perform a backup, say onto a physical external hard disk, and you don't know how to recover the backup, there'll be some geek to help you recover the website when the time comes.  Backing up methods are very inexpensive.  If not sure just google it - it is a very common operation. Now, I assume there's a recovery / backup system included with your WordPress account or that the cloud service offers backup services, but I'm a great fan of belt and braces!  These distant, disconnected, out of touch, mega-organisations could feasibly have a disaster that wipes millions of websites.  Don't let yours be one.

That is a fear and I'd like to have it saved to a hard disk, but haven't found that, yet. Can you, or anyone suggest a good system. That converts and holds the entire finished pages as they appear on the website? All that I have is Wordpress, my text, pics and notations about where to place which pics into text.

Just google it, Jbee.
I've never done it before myself but I had a quick look online and of the 3 or 4 web pages that I looked at, that gave advice, they all described the same options... And I quote from one:

1. A WordPress backup plugin. There are tons of great free or paid options. For most people, a WordPress backup plugin is the best option.
2. cPanel [that's your control dashboard of the website, Jbee] Backup Wizard. If your host offers cPanel, you can back up your WordPress site via the cPanel dashboard.
3. Manual backup with FTP and phpMyAdmin. We don't generally recommend backing up WordPress manually because it’s more time-consuming than the other methods (and harder to restore), but it might be handy to know how to do this in certain situations.
Custom host backup tool. Many managed WordPress hosts offer custom backup tools, which can be a great option as long as the host is storing the backups separately from your main site.
Each option has its pros and cons, so pay attention to what you value most to make the right choice

I would certainly recommend spending the time to work out how to do this backup operation - think of the misery if you lost the website or it's contents.

I'd like to put it on an external hard-drive like "MyBook" I keep reading about plugins and manual to some nebulous cost monthly thing in cyberspace. There is much language that I don't understand.

I start to get a headache. I've looked but am not sure that I have a actually found this.

I've also considered losing my blog due to a technical failure on the part of the host. I found an alternative solution. Paper!
I made two books from the texts and photos of the blog on a self-publishing site: Blurb. The books are still available, possibly even for sale, depending on the settings. You can view them (or buy them) on the site:

I like hiking, running, kayaking, biking, sailing, geocaching...naked of course!

What a good idea, jmf.  We have no idea how long digital data will last as we've only had it for a few decades.  Books, however, we know to last centuries at least! :)
