Where for a bigger experience of things?
« on: February 08, 2024, 04:30:24 PM »
I have of course been out in my backyard, swum naked many times in the mountains, and quite comfortable with things. But it has never been a place where I felt I could stay naked for long, or that people would welcome.

I am thinking of a holiday this year for a fortnight, perhaps going to a park / campsite / place. I have a campervan and happy to drive - but am in the Highlands so anywhere south of the Alps (Italy, Croatia, Slovenia etc) gets a bit far. I was thinking Germany, possibly France, or of course the Biscay ferry and northern Spain.

Suggestions please for a first timer on holiday alone...

Yes, we have a whole website full of places to free range camp, but know nothing about such in Europe, except organized areas. I'd expect some spots in the Alps. VERY good question.
Even speculated free range meccas would be interesting.
There's the hiking in the Austrian Alps every year. NEWT. There should be a thread or two on that here.

I bet JMF knows lots of places to be naked in France.  You could PM him, outdoors_person.

I was reading X this morning and ran across a posting by a nudist couple from the UK.  They were nude on a beach where others were clothed, and they said that they go naked because being naked is not illegal in the UK.  "Every beach is a nude beach."  That's similar to my legal situation here.  A few of us go naked in public areas, but most do not even though there is no law requiring body masks.

Mostly people have been trained that they "have to" wear body masks.  Even where permitted the training is so deep that they cling to it.  I ignore the body mask demands and have found that most clothist people I meet are appreciative to see an uncovered person.

The first-timer alone bit constrains the suggestions somewhat - are you looking to remain alone or meet up with fellow naturists wherever you end up? I can recommend the Cotswolds as having plenty of outdoor space to roam naked and free, and it would save the ferry crossing with your caravan, but we haven't much in the way of naturist sites to pitch up. Have you come across Suntreckers? they're a caravan and camping-based naturist club which has rallies across the country and further afield - https://www.suntreckers.org.uk/

This is a great idea. A sort of non-landed travel club. Canyon State Bares and we, Southern Arizona Naturist Society used to have a group activity each month to camp somewhere. The Forest Service was contacted and notified, we'd put out a warning sign, "beyond this point you..." and be legal. It was a good relationship. Wherever the majority are nude, it is a nude area, the norm and safe when the law allows. This was public land and they knew that we were going out of our way to mind our own business. Nobody got surprised.

I think this Suntrekers is a great idea. There are commonalities, besides the obvious ("I like to be naked"). There's probably some Good Sam features to them, as well. If we lived there, we'd be trekking with them some.

When I went to Croatia I discovered the country was pretty naturist friendly.

There are quite a few FKK sites apparently.  Worth a bit of research.  We were in one of the largest towns, Dubrovnik, which was not at all naturist but our hotel was a bit out of the town and by the sea.  I took hikes over the cliff tops through woodland and did some of it naked as there weren't many people around and, whilst I had no idea of the law there about public nudity, it was nice to get naked and nobody to see.  I nearly had an encounter - a family hiked up to the spot I had been sunbathing about 30 seconds after I had got dressed to go back to the hotel...phew!

I don't post much, but a friend told me about this event in Howe caverns in NY west of Albany. It's the 6th annual Howe Caverns Naked in a Cave. Scroll down on the link and it's the fourth event. Nice way to cool of in the Summer.

Although the name of this beach doesn't really feel very enticing!

You don't have to visit a "nudist" resort to be naked.   For example, this morning I picked up a few items at Walmart.  Getting back to my car I stood outside in the cool morning to take off my body masking.  Another vehicle drove past while I walked naked from the passenger side around to the driver side to get in. Then I drove 35 miles home.through towns and motorways.  It's really not warm enough for me to be comfortable outside yet this spring.

Can you park a trailer in the forests of the Alps and then hike from there?

No. From a camper van it's still possible, but in many places without spending the night.
I like hiking, running, kayaking, biking, sailing, geocaching...naked of course!
