Reading “Naked at Lunch” by Mark Haskell Smith, I saw something new to me, the first Secret Naturist Society. It was three men in Bombay, one of which began correspondence with a Mr. Carpenter about spending time naked. Mr. Carpenter was a noted nonconformist, enjoying vegetarianism and homosexuality when Oscar Wild was nailed to the cross. It was four guys getting naked and spending time on the old internet in England. The correspondence mentioned the rules to go stark naked wherever suitable, to encourage others,” be plain spoken” when addressing others about it. Stark naked didn’t include glasses or false teeth.

They called it “The Fellowship of the Naked Trust.”

Secret Naturist Societies are 124 years old this year. There are only, I think, four letters left from their website.

This is interesting JBee.  I was reading about Oscar and some of his contemporaries while researching an art nouveau artist recently.  I had been reading about the German history of nudism on one of our  trips and had some personal experiences in Scandinavia many years ago alluding to organized membership of naturism,  although I didn't know what it was called at the time.
