Part 2 as we revisit the site of the 1997 Rainbow Gathering and discover a wide ranging naturist playground: https://thefreerangenaturist.org/2016/09/09/a-week-in-the-white-mountains-part-2/

Finding camping where you are all alone is hard to do. Especially if there is a road nearby.

If the woman was FS staff she probably knew that folks in a remote place like their privacy.

At least you had a few hours alone.

The story gets better. It was his jacket. He works in boating at the lakes. They did mention that they had had to stay at an official campground and didn't like that.

Located the site on Google Earth. Appears to be at about 9,000 ft. elev. Nice!
I guess families trekking out into the forest at that elevation is a good sign.

Kids around? Had school not started yet?

This is one of my most favorite times of the year; after Labor Day to November first as it is when school begins and before hunting season. Although I have encountered some home schooled in campgrounds as we travel.

Thanks for the contrasts, the changes between the Rainbow Gathering visit and now. Plus the little trip back in time.
