Hi From AZ
« on: February 02, 2016, 01:34:03 PM »
My name is Ken.  I go by "Kensunwalker"or sometimes "Kenfreehiker".  I discovered naturism about 2002, although I've probably always had that inclination.  My naturism started with feehiking.  I've lived at three resorts (Glen Eden, Olive Dell Ranch (where I built trails and started the Bare Burro 5k), and Shangri La Ranch (where I built and maintain trails), and visited over 30 more.  My naturist experiences have included many nude beaches and hot springs, and have I have freehiked in many states.  For eights years I was married to PJ who participated with me, and am now married to Amy - also a naturist.  We recently purchased land in Dewey, AZ where I am building a naturist friendly trail and garden, and soon a house.  (Please visit when you are in the area.)  The land borders the National Forest where we often freehike together.  In am a home naturist, and in addition to freehiking and working on trails, I love nude karaoke.  I started and moderate the "Skinny Trippers" google group.  I'm considering starting a northern AZ non-landed club (anyone interested?).  That's enough about me now; I look forward to communicating with my fellow naturists on this site.

Hi Ken.   I seem to remember a Ken and PJ couple whom i first met at a hot spring in New Mexico and saw once at  Shangri La.  That would have been around 25 years ago and my memory for names is not all that good, but it sounds vaguely familiar.  I get back to NM every couple of years, and we are planning to move to Arizona when my wife retires in about 4 years from now.  Maybe our paths will cross again sometime.

Bob.

Welcome and glad to hear from you again! I used to follow your blog as Kenfreehiker years ago and miss it! Still have a copy of your last list of well known naturists.

For those of us in Europe, Dewey is on the way to Prescott, Arizona. It is a former mining town. Prescott Valley became a suburb of Prescott, a former state capital and cute historic place. Great nightlife and culture. Prescott is becoming a suburb of Prescott Valley, as the idea caught on. Dewey is now a satellite of that, not yet overrun by tract houses and big box stores. It has a nice rural feel and I suspect slightly warmer than Prescott. It isn't such a long drive to the amenities and mass culture of northern Phoenix sprawl. Shangala Naturist resort is now on the northern end of that. It sounds like a good choice with a Prius. There is a lot of diversity around there. The Verde River area, cool pines, water, and desert Phoenix, choose your season. There is even some Tucson-esque Sonoran Desert around New River to thaw out in. It is probably an up and coming real-estate boom.

Are you in a cottonwood valley or pinion pine, or grassland, what are you backed up against where you can hike?

What I was going to say to Kensunwalker was firstly Hi!  Hopefully the acquisition of a blogger means we have a new friend who can post a decent post and will be well disposed to doing so!  Please do join in the chat, Ken, and welcome.

And then I was going to suggest that the two of you Arizonans commence to correspond if not actually meet, both being seasoned nude living enthusiasts!
This gives a high concentration of our members in AZ (not so surprising given the wonderful climate)!  I thought maybe we should scrape up some sort of fair use policy, given the prevalence of members in AZ to restrict you to one usage at a time.  However, considering the entire British contingent of several are packed into an area roughly the same as AZ, I shall shut up! :D :D

Ken:  Thanks for this excellent description of the Dewey area in Arizona (AZ - USA):

"For those of us in Europe, Dewey is on the way to Prescott, Arizona. "Are you in a cottonwood valley or pinion pine, or grassland, what are you backed up against where you can hike?"

Ken:  Our land looks closely out on the Bradshaw Mountains. with the trail head and freehiking only 5 minutes away.  Pinon pine and related brush sparsely cover the hills.  Our land is thickly covered with shrub oak, mountain mahogany, buck brush, skunk brush, pinion pine, etc.

I might take you up on that. I live in Henderson, NV.
Not that far.

The "kenfreehiker" name sounds familiar.

You - everyone for that matter - are certainly welcome to visit anytime.  It would be nice to share my trail; I walk it free nearly every day.

I'm currently expanding it down to a beautiful wash.

Checked on my maps and Dewey is either a 4 or 5 hr. drive, depending on which highway you take. If you are next to a national forest, I'm sure there is camping in the area.

That far would be at least a 2 night camp. That would be nice.

We like Las Vegas, and there are lots of naturist places near Henderson.  Ever been to the Beach or AZ Hot Springs?

I've been to AZ Hot Springs, many years ago. It was PACKED! There was several hundred people there. It's a favorite stop on the river for the rafting business.

We had hiked 2-3 miles in from highway on the AZ side with my son's Boy Scout troup. It was a bit of a disappointment to have a camping trip that crowded. Someone had dragged a stereo system with them on the raft and it was not much fun.

I haven't been back. It's probably not so bad in the off season during the week.

I've never been to the beach. With the lake down so much it might be interesting to see how accessible the lake is.
