The local news has mentioned that prolonged exposure to the noise could produce hearing loss. As if I don't have enough loss from years of factory work!
There are over 2,500 known species of cicadas.
They spend most of their lives underground.
Close to the end of their lives, they emerge from the ground to mate.
Each cicada species has its own mating song.
Some songs can be as loud as 120 decibels, which puts them among the noisiest insects.
This loud noise has an added benefit as it keeps away predators such as birds.
I suppose too much cicada music could be a problem.
