As a result, John, there are a multitude of ghost towns all over the west. Mostly from boom and bust mining cycles. There are also busted logging towns in the NW. My wife and I love finding them and poking around to see how life passed there.

Gosh this post is a total education!!
My whole impression of America has changed. At school we are taught that the midwest is a fertile agricultural and industrial grassland plain. Actually its a desert! Although the growing of grain seems to be pretty widespread.
