Karla! ANYBODY! I can no longer click to read comments since my last visit!

Last night, something happened. Now, the grey bar that was at the top of the page which reads something like, "view comments posted since your last visit" has disappeared.

I have been dabbling in "features" with no luck. This feature is integral to me keeping track of what is going on, what replies have been posted, what's new, where the conversation is happening. It has always been there. How do I get it back. I really can't function here without it.

ANYBODY KNOW WHAT TO DO???

Have you tried clearing the cache on your browser?

JBG, I don't recognize the feature of which you speak.

What I do is scan the headings of the different sections, and if there's something new, it shows which section to look in. For the amount of traffic we see here, that seems totally adequate to me. It couldn't possibly be that you're asking about a feature here that you've actually used somewhere else, could it?

On the other hand, computers are very mysterious, and maybe my browser or my computer don't work the same as yours. Meddle not in the affairs of wizards.

I trust, Jbee that you are using a reasonably up to date version of Windows and a sensible browser like Chrome, Edge or Firefox.  I'm not surprised if you are having problems if you have clung to Windows XP or Vista so long after their demise!  If you are managing the Wordpress Blog, I guess you are more up to date than that.


I think Karla is right - it may be a cache or cookies thing.  Expunge your history and cookies and this may bring it back.
I too rely on unread posts since last visit as the most efficient way to find new posts, otherwise you are searching through endless topics for recent posts (I used this on TSNS as well to keep up) and I usually use MS Edge which I have set to clear history every time I close down.  Not sure if that clears the cookies too but it doesn't affect the "Show Unread Posts Since Last Visit" function.  I wonder therefore if that is a feature of one's user profile saved on the site software?
Your profile tells you when you last logged in so that is probably the means by which the site can deliver the "...unread posts since last visit" from Stuart and Karla's end not from each user's local device.  Maybe JBee's profile has a small corruption in it.  Any ideas Karla and/or Stuart?


If you can't shift the problem easily Jbee, I suggest creating a new identity and profile and seeing if that profile has the function operating ok.  Obviously it needs to be a different name and password to your current.  If it does work then the corrupt file on the site software may be the answer.  What the remedy for that would be I know not.

At the risk of starting an avalanche of 'Me toos', I too have lost the 'last post' option, about a week ago. My system is reasonably modern with Windows 10 and Edge.

YES. they would pop up always. That way I could see if anyone posted or replied before I popped off the forum. When many, or just one other, are on at the same time, it can be a catch up.

I am seeing little orange "new" signs and that is the saving grace. Before I would click those bars and the list of unread posts would pop down for me.

Actually, if you could log on with a different browser and it works then it will tell us whether the fault lays with your original browser or server side.

She gets to her email once or twice a month. She doesn't like writing on a key board after doing notes on a problematic portable computer all day. I get her to participate on this forum only when we happen to be together on it. So, that's a tough request. I just do my best. She she has enjoyed reading, when we are on together, when I bring up something in particular interest to her. Sometimes I read to her while she is doing something else.
Yea, I'd like that, too.

If it's any help, I use a link/shortcut/bookmark/favourite* which initially takes me to the log in screen but then goes straight to the unread posts.  I don't log into the site and press the show unread posts link, the

bookmark/favourite does that for me.  I guess if there's either a server side problem that I am affected by, having the shortcut probably won't protect me from that.

It seemingly self-corrected. It was working at DF's place on her laptop, but now, her icons and labels on teh d site don't show. Go figure. Anyway, I got the cure.
