« on: July 25, 2018, 09:59:55 PM »
A few weeks ago, DF and I took a moonlit walk along one of the more urban rivers in Tucson...Very TSNS....

The Rillito River path is a great place for a late-night stroll or bicycle ride.

Back in the 1980’s, we could drive in the river bed of the Rillito, it was dry most of the year. Tucson had an event named the Rillito River Regatta. Entries in the event would convert their 4X4’s into floats which  resembled water craft, then paraded then down the dry river bed, it was quite a sight.

'Ol #34 produced a pic of the regatta, back in '82-'83. I don't recall this. I do remember sand sharks, sand trout and taking bets as to when the ice would breakup on the Rillito River (The Weather Wrangler used to make jokes. It meant when the thermometer broke 100F for the first time, for you non-Tucsonans).

We used to drive up the Tanque Verde wash upstream from the old Tanque Verde Loop bridge in the middle of the night. I had an open root-beer colored jeep with big tires. We would spotlight the huge owls in the big cottonwoods. Their eyes would be reflecting like lights at us and then they would swoop off eventually. There was one with an 8foot wingspan...Sometimes I'd do it naked with the wife. Sometimes cowboy boots and jeans with the boys.

We just had fun looking at those old pics.

As the list gey longer as to where we are no longer able to travel leagally, so does the free access to information get smaller. Our countries are limiting our rights.

The local newspaper had a pile of Tucson news photos circa 1982 and 1983. This photo is of a large crowd standing along the banks of the bone dry a sandy Rillito River. They are watching a 4x4 dressed up with a sort of hoop skirt to make it look like a boat.
