Wow, I was waiting for a Sherpa to pop out. One gets used to alpine meadows and green things, forgetting the world past the tree line.

The picture of you laying in the snow, is how I might have expected to find you after seeing some of those snowy jaunts that you take, frozen dead. After experimentation, I see how you acclimate to the cold and how adaptable a body can be.

I would feel right at home there except for the temperature.
Take away the snow and those mountains look like the terrain around here. #11 looks like a volcanic field. I love it.

2560m (8400 ft.) is not above the treeline here. Was that your final altitude?

Is that area of France generally accepting to naturist activities? Do you feel the need to seek remote sites where there are few people?

That series of pictures got me ready to get up and get out!

Given that you seem to hike with just a small pack, how long would it take you from the car to the summit of your climb?  I assume it's less than day hike up and down on an autumn day otherwise you'd be hiking in the dark.


If your photos are typical of the vista, there isn't much sign of human occupation.  What precautions do you take against emergencies?

There is a ski resort on the other side of the mountain, but on this side, especially at this season, it's very quiet.

That's clearer JMF,  again I marvel at your country (like USA) where it is no problem to find solitary hiking relatively easily.  With France about double the size of the UK and about the same population and many, many more hills and mountains, you have much more room to breathe and walk in naked comfort.
