Cochise Stronghold I
« on: November 02, 2018, 06:32:37 AM »
Went down to the Dragoon Mountains to explore Cochise Stronghold and hike. The sights were a phenomenal entertainment. There are lots of pictures, so it is in two parts.

Wow, those rock formations have a presence don't they?  The shapes are strangely anthropomorphic - like ancient families of giants turned to stone.

The pictures can't always do them justice. There is a sense of massive to them that We could only hint at here and there.

There were several that seemed to defy gravity. There were families it would seem. It is such a good place to retreat securely and ambush. It is no wonder that their hit and run guerrilla tactics worked for so long.

I looked up Cochise on Wikipedia, and it said, "Cochise died of natural causes (probably abdominal cancer) in 1874. He was buried in the rocks above one of his favorite camps in Arizona's Dragoon Mountains, now called the Cochise Stronghold. Only his people and Tom Jeffords knew the exact location of his resting place, and they took the secret to their graves."

(Tom Jeffords was "the Apache leader's only white friend".)

So he's up there somewhere. He'd probably approve of anyone who doesn't follow the white man's ways too strictly.

Yup. Then again would he approve of Vibram toe shoes, hats and strange boxes in hand. Strange white men indeed.
