It always amuses me, Jbee, your often awestruck responses to places with green forest and abundant water.  I fully realise that's because you live in desert conditions normally.  However, to us Brits water and green trees are so normal and commonplace that they don't elicit comment and we are too small an island to have enough variation to have places that are desert.  Most of the time we sit around waiting for it to stop raining too!

I think that is why they call it "New England." We got socked in, stuck in the club house of a very lovely resort. It would have been a wonderful place, as planned, to spend a couple of days with and a couple of days without sunshine and a dance on Saturday night, then head over to Mass, to meet our naturist friends for a frolic, but the long dark wet days just got longer and colder, then another in the string. When it became like Tucson in the winter and we were in a tent. Our hostess didn't even show back up for Sat. night.

We had to go where the weather suits our clothes, when that extra day of slosh popped into the picture. I had to think about your circumstances that I have heard for so many years here. I understand your difficulties better, now.  We found that Arizonans don't necessarily melt in the rain, but when summer turned to winter....

We were disappointed to miss some more time with Dan and John...perhaps we can get them to Arizona.

I was hoping that one would report here, but I know that they were very busy and then off on another adventure.

We went to Penn. and it felt great.

Sorry you were a bit disappointed in the temperate zone climate.  It's a shame when you have gone a long way to find the place.  But it sounds very much like British summer! :D In the UK we are used to random weather changes.  July particularly can be torrential rain one day and hot sun the next (and indeed sunshine and showers in the same day is a frequent occurrence).  I guess if I went to live in a hot climate, that is what I would relish by comparison with the UK - reliability.  Knowing that you can walk out in huaraches, 'T' and shorts any day of the year almost and not have to carry an umbrella "just in case" :)
But I am aware that continuous sunny weather for months can seem a bit monotonous but I'm sure I wouldn't get bored with that for at least a couple of decades! :D :D

On Father's Day, June 20th, the first WNHD hike in Vermont, we came across a couple with a 5 year old boy. They were thru hiking the Appalachian Trail. The trail that we were on is a part of the Appalachian Trail and the Long Trail.

Backpacker mag sent me a story about these people in my email, who have Vlog site with several youtube videos. They were just reported to have completed the AT! The youngest person ever! The kid was 4 years old when they started. Something like 2200 miles during 7 months!

Here is the video of the Vermont section where we bumped into them. We are mentioned by Mom.
