I see that it has now been a full season since the fire of 2022. How is the vegetation doing? Are there shrubs and grasses popping up? Are there any pine cones producing trees after being sprouted by the fire? What percentage would you estimate as dead wood? Anything surprising, or entertaining, or miraculous seen in the recovery? Has all of that black ash begun to get a blanket over it?

Lots of dead trees.  In some areas all the trees died. In other areas most trees survived.   I've spent summer cutting dead trees for firewood, but it will take years.
The ground cover burned, and we have some ugly replacement weeds, especially among the dead trees.  Some areas the soil was thoroughly sterilized by heat and nothing has regrown yet.  .  .

My impulse is, "how to fix it." I suppose that most of it is best left to fix itself.

How immensely sad, Bob.  You have my sympathies.
It's not that the fire isn't a perfectly natural phenomenon and not sad at all, but it's the fact that your enjoyment of your land which you worked so hard to get built on and installed in, has changed for the worse.
Let us hope some natural beauty emerges with time.

Getting time to get ready for sale and Arizona journeys? Or is that after the first of the year? I've forgotten.

We have decided that moving was shaping up to be a big effort, so we've decided to stay here for a few more years.  Arizona laws on nudity are harder too.  I guess I'll just have to stay inside all winter, but I do have tons of firewood.

You might become snowbirds. Millions do.

The stealth options a very numerous here. There is no infraction if you keep respect of only not being sighted if a "reasonable person" might be offended. We go places often where nobody or few are there.

Do you still have the mobile home?

So many months in captivity is difficult...and there are hundreds of golf courses all winter.
