Crossword puzzle clue
« on: March 16, 2016, 12:10:21 PM »
As I've said, I'm in London, and I was attempting to do the crossword in the Evening Standard last night. Americans might not understand the traditional British crossword, which will use cryptic clues, like anagrams and constructing words somewhat like a charade, and a major part of the puzzle is figuring out how to interpret the clue.

Anyway, 18 Down leapt to my eye. "A brilliant weekend at the nudist camp?" with 5 letters.

I did get it, but not until I had a couple of the intersecting words. The answer is "stark". Brilliant = "star", weekend = the last letter of the word "week", whole word relates to nudity. Happily, they didn't say "nudist colony"!

Maybe I should have posted the clue before the answer. Sorry.

Hence "The Party in the Stark" at the Naturist Foundation later this year. See here

Well done on solving the clue - I'm hopeless at cryptic crosswords

So here are th eanswers, th espoiler, end of it, th evalidation, the taN, Arse, baRe, Muff, down 4 letters of NAtuRisM...I abor crossword. I'd rather be tortured and frustrated by golf, or perhaps slowly drowning.

So it is more British to hide burn in born, I take it.
