Success in Holland

It's nice to get a reminder that there are some places where people know how to be reasonable. But if you look at the comments, you can see that idiocy is also very common.

Too bad they're in Holland as I doubt that we would find such an open minded rational court here. In fact I was just involved in a discussion why nudity will never become common place in the US. Besides the puritanical local and state laws prohibiting it if it would become common place for nudity to be accepted on federal land and the clothing/fashion industry would feel threatened then they would muster such a lobbying effort in the nations capital that laws would be changed. Even if our courts would come to the same (sane) conclusion that there is enough beach area for both nude and textile use I'm sure the backlash would be tremendous.

But most of all nudity is the great equalizer; one cannot display social status without clothes. Even expensive jewelry looks fake in a naturist setting. Think of how absurd it would be to try and judge social status at a nude beach based on the quality of towels, brand of sunscreen or size and make of a cooler?  Or in the forest based on footwear, size and make of a backpack or even a walking stick?

Most of our political system is based on developing divisions between different social strata. Besides the haves and have not's, rich and poor, religions, political party, regions, and ethnicity and any other divisions that can be exploited for gain. Nudity becoming the great equalizer would eventually disrupt a process that has ruled this country and others for ages.

You're too generous to your fellow man, nudewalker. If nudity was that commonplace I have no doubt there would be a veritable arms race to have the "right" towel, cooler, sun glasses, deckchair, whatever. It's only because nudity is restricted to the sensible and normal among us that it hasn't happened so far!!

My experience at naturist beaches is equalizing. Egalitarian values are as natural as some that will feel the ego's need to be a top dog, or to control. There is a higher consciousness, however, that would level us all in acceptance and oneness, or say a more warm loving human being. That is something I like about nudity, it promotes that. When we sweat, there are more wealthy, singing and praying next to indigent friends. Don't most churches act the same during worship?

Then, there is that lower consumer consciousness, as one supposes that the dog eats the dog. Dogs don't even always behave that way.

So, Holland has a nude beach! So do we here, but it is still a reservation and an incremental step toward sanity. I was taken by a slide on the NAZ website today. A picture of a forest and a caption stating, "A forest isn't clothed, why should we be." Something like that. I recommend visiting the site and checking out the collection of naturists wisdom and humor that our fellow has accumulated.

A 30 yr. old tradition of nudity at a beach should qualify as a suitable place for nude activities. Good sense prevails, even though it took over 36 months.

Yes, Jbee, most who genuinely believe in the true equality we are born with will react to an unknown with a desire to know them first before coming to judgement. Such is the basis of acceptance.

I believe the resolute refusal to yield to bigotry in any form will eventually succeed, thought sometimes the steps are not very long.
