Abbey House Gardens CO days 2017

The gardens will be open for clothing optional visits on the following dates in 2017:

Sunday 21st May 2017

Sunday 11th June 2017

Sunday 16th July 2017

Sunday 13th August 2017

Sunday 3rd September 2017

I have always preferred the gardens in the early part of the season and will try to make one of the first two dates. Anyone else interested?

now that mother in law has passed on weve got free sundays for the first time in years,  not sure its quite what the wife had in mind put well see.

I hope to get there at least once during the season. I love the variety of the seasons, the laburnum arch in spring, the roses later on and finally as autumn approaches the fruit on the trees.

Funnily enough about 2 or 3 days ago I had a look to see if they were still doing CO days and if so when.
I have to say that now I'm resident in the midlands and a bit further east, I think, there is an additional hour on the journey (3+hrs) and in the current retired state, getting away from the dearly beloved will take some creativity!!  However, I've always liked it since the first visit 2008 for the great convention so I'd like to go.  Maybe I can inveigle my open minded, but not naturist, friend to come too for a chaps day out and thus provide cover! 


Ian, keep us in the picture of whether you are going to the first two and I'll see if we can't make a rendezvous.


In fact everyone keep posting your intentions and maybe we'll get a convention.  My 2015 visit with Ian, Keith and friend was a lovely, chatty afternoon!

I remember months ago the discussion here about the AHG having passed into new hands.
I take it the new owners are continuing the CO tradition. A good and welcome sign.

Whoever makes it please provide reports and photos for we few across the watery reach.

Interestingly the news last year was that 2015 would be the final AHG CO year.  Then, or concurrently, Ian Pollard was very ill with it is known not what, and other reports were that it would be a long time before he returned to the business and that his son was caretaking the gardening.  Meanwhile no news on the sale front and the place appears to still be on the market for £3.25m which seems to me a snip of a price for all that land and huge house.  I guess there being a whole wad of history attached to the house and grounds, there is a huge conservation responsibility and no doubt numerous heritage listings that have to be obeyed.  I downloaded the agents brochure - no mention of the house being open to the public let alone CO days although the right move details mention 'The Naked Gardeners'.  However the pictures of the inside are amazing (not buying it - too much dusting!!). IMHO there will be more C-O days if the buyer continues to open the gardens to the public as the C-O days are significantly more profitable than the regular days.

The cha-ching a lot of state and local governments are looking for could be solved by providing nudist recreation. I don't know how many studies have been done on Haulover Beach in Miami but the economic impact has been documented. In fact those studies have been used (to no avail) to try and open beaches in other parts of Florida, namely Fort DeSoto near Tampa. One study even went as far as saying what ever state opens a nude beach on the Great Lakes will reap an economic boom from tourism.

In the meantime I will continue to plan and practice my stealth free ranging until enough people wake up and push for more nude recreation areas. I'll be waiting for those reports from the gardens!
