Logged on this morning and was just poking around because not much was posted in the last few hours.

With regard to the above post about the 10,000 mark on total posts if you look at the “More Stats” page and add up the top 10 viewed topics it’s almost half-million. And that’s only the top 10. The whole site is probably well over a million views.

EmmPressive!

So, I was looking at my member profile at some of the tracked data. If you click on your username you will be directed to the “Summary” of the member profile. Click on “Stats”, below the member icon and you will see the info of your activity displayed. One of the lists shown is “Most Popular Boards By Activity”.

I would have thought it would be a description of how my activity is distributed on the site, but if I add up the percentages, it’s over 100%. So what does that list represent? Am I reading this wrong?

Hmmmm.

I can also see what time of day I am most likely online. Sort of interesting especially if you are looking for those that are nocturnal. Don’t forget that the times shown are offset to the timezone in the UK. Otherwise I would be a night owl by Pacific Time Zone reckoning.

If you randomly select a member you are unfamiliar with and if they have yet to post anything, you would expect to see something like,  “This member has yet to post.” Implying that there is a hope and expectation to hear from them.

Instead, the lists regarding the posting data have this announcement displayed,

“No posts to speak of !”

That doesn’t exactly mean that they haven’t posted anything does it? ;) It’s more of a commentary. Not very uplifting. :D Oh well, back to the day’s activities!

The 1st post on this thread noted that the site had rolled over to 10,000 posts on or about March 14, 2018, 06:55:41 PM.

I noticed that Jbee’s post in “Crabbing Trip” on October 17, 2018, 10:43:17 AM, was the 12,000th.
That’s 216.66 days, or 5,199.79 hrs. since the 10,000 th , which is 2.60 posts/hr. Whoopee!

The oldest post on the site seems to be; Forum Rules: on: July 25, 2013, 06:54:47 PM {Administrator}
To the 10,000th post that is 1,693.00 days and 40,632.02 hrs., which is 4.06 posts/hr.
To the 12,000th post that is 1,909.66 days and 45,831.81 hrs., which is 3.82 posts/hr.

So the posting rates over time seem to trend down in frequency. My guess is that this is normal for most sites. If there were a way to analyze the info here the graph would probably be up and down as new members join, but trending downward.

Unless it’s simply a distribution artifact because of the longer time the site has been up and running.
I suppose that at some point everything that can be said has been said by the current group.
More newbies are needed (active newbies that is).

Well done, Duane!
A man after my own heart for pointless stats!
You are right to be confused by the personal stats, my own count on Most Popular Boards by Activity is only 74% ish and yours is 140% ish.  So indeed it isn't clear what that stat means.  Could I hazard a guess that it means that your posts in that topic account for x% of the total posts in that topic.  I think you were assuming that the stat meant the proportion of just your total posts in that topic.  Obviously that's not right as neither of us add up to 100%.

Stuart?  Karla?  Any comment on that?

I believe also that we can't rely on the number of views being real.  In my, admittedly limited, experience of managing website development projects, I did learn that there are many, many hits on every website from search engines, bots, web crawlers and search programmes looking for targets to inject malware, search for content and the like.  Probably the vast majority of the so called views are in fact somebody's software, that scans the web day and night for some target that it is seeking.   There doesn't seem to be any reliable way of judging which hits are people and of those people, who are interested (i.e. that might have read something rather than that the website just appeared in one of the results from a search term).  I wish I knew more but I suspect that real views are only a minority of the total views of the site.  I don't think the number really matters if we manage to bring just a little joy to our community with our inchoate scrawlings! :)

It seems that my thread about the Naked European Walking Tour was topic number 1000 on Freerangenaturism:

http://freerangenaturism.com/forum/index.php?topic=1000.0

I'd have claimed some glory for that if I'd noticed at the time, but I didn't see it until later. Can I have the glory now?

Sointly, JohnP! Better late than never! But go for it. We all do our part.

Ahh! I see how you figured out the 1000th post?
I just happened to notice the post count when Jbee was the last post on the list. I didn’t have to count anything.
