AANR may be turning toward support of nude rights
« on: April 05, 2019, 01:41:11 AM »
KISSIMMEE, Fla. (March 4, 2019) The American Association for Nude Recreation is pleased to announce that Erich Schuttauf, JD has accepted the position of Executive Director.

Having served in many capacities for the organization founded in 1931, Schuttauf  has walked the halls of the Tallahassee legislature and halls of Congress promoting the positive economic impact of nude recreation on the U.S. tourism economy, during his tenure he has also visited many state law makers advocating on behalf of nudist rights in advance of legislative sessions on bills, and worked with federal agencies such as National Park Service, the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management in support of nudity on appropriate public lands.

A member of AANR since 1991 (when AANR was still known as the American Sunbathing Association/ASA), he is also a longtime spokesperson on wholesome family-style nude recreation, having appeared on Hardball with Chris Matthews, OReilly Factor, CNBC, ABCs Good Morning America and been interviewed by such notable publications as the New York Times, Orlando Sentinel, Details Magazine, among many others.

I see my role as AANRs Executive Director as one to lead our members as the voice of advocacy on behalf of individuals and families to enjoy outdoor pursuits in the way God made them, whether it be at member Clubs or their own backyard. Im eager to build on decades of AANRs core values of wholesome nude recreation where appropriate, notes Schuttauf. Im also committed to growing the diversity of our membership. Our largest growing demographic is African-American.  The demographic most loyal: Latin.  Those most willing to experience nude recreation: Millennials.  I want all regardless of age or ethnicity -- to feel welcome as AANR members and members of our affiliated clubs, resorts and campgrounds.

He still says "at member clubs or their own back yards."   That is not the same as advocating a universal right to control our own bodies.

Let's also be sure that " in support of nudity on appropriate public lands" means restrictions, penned in, a few beaches, like there is something wrong with it.

All of that good energy and monetary support from businesses and he shoots us all in the foot, except the businesses. He's the one that gets on TV!

I agree with JBG. This qualification of places as "appropriate" (it's in there twice) really sets my teeth on edge. I'd rather start from the philosophical point that the human body isn't shameful or threatening, and we shouldn't be calling it a crime if it's visible. Maybe it's better to be polite and stay clothed in some places, but I want the idea to be that there's nothing wrong with nudity.

If it's true that "In France, some things are forbidden. In Germany, some things are permitted" then let's live in France.

Yes, I agree very much with John P about the flaw in Schuttauf's statement.
The premise should be that nudity is universally appropriate anywhere and everywhere by personal choice.  Then, as naturists all, we can consider where clothing is absolutely necessary for full societal integration and not restrict nudity but make clothing mandatory in some situations.  Rather than the other way (the wrong way) around as it is today.  Schuttauf implies that emancipation for people in CO clubs or their home/garden should be promoted.  But its already right and lawful to do these things.  Job already done!  If he is to make a maximal positive difference he needs to flip his premises and start getting Malls and Parks, Theatres and Stadia, streets and countryside recognised as clothing optional.
Just coming off my high horse now, I guess his point is about general public recognition that the propensity and desire to be naked should be treated as normal and the use of club or garden by naturists not looked upon as odd.
