So, you come across some gothic, or punk kid dressed to get a reaction from others, to express themselves. Or, some guy is dressed in garb to intimidate, because he wants to scare off muggers. Or, somebody is walking along the parkway with a bloody knife in hand. Where is the line drawn for a public order, or complaint? Where is the line of intent or the affect, or effect drawn?

So, you walk down the same parkway, butt naked, enjoying the breeze. Are you doing it to make affect, to shock, to express yourself, or is it about individuality, how it makes you feel? Has it nothing to do with other people being around?

You can walk around in any garb, posture any intent, and people just have to get over it. Try a little naturism and it is assumed that there is something sexy going on, and that it has to do with everybody else, that it couldn't just be something that merely feels good, something that could just as easily be done when alone walking on the parkway, something that has inherently nothing to do with anyone else?

You can walk the streets dressed like a giant penis, but your penis can't walk the streets minding its own business. Ain't no justice, ain't even no sense.

You can walk the streets with a gun on your hip, which makes many people nervous, but you have a natural right to protect yourself. You can't walk the streets naked, which also makes a few people nervous, but you don't have that right to walk without fear. I'm all for the Second Amendment, but some of these people (even police) get me a little edgy with arms at ready. I can't imagine feeling that way in the presence of naked people. Naked just never seemed intimidating or threatening to me.

Jus' some thoughts. My sense of common sense.

I understand and agree in context, but we have become a very irrational and nervous society. Walking in a quiet Texas neighborhood sporting a handy Colt will probably not get a second glance. But try walking that same street while black, or wearing a skirt (kilt) when obviously Male, or simply barefoot all over , would illicit a frantic call to 911.

Brilliant quotation there, Bob
You can see why Michelangelo thought that from the enormous amount of nudity right across the Sistine Chapel.
Makes you think about the utter hypocrisy of society where even in renaissance times and well into the present day the depiction of nudity in art, advertising etc is considered entirely acceptable but real nudity isn't!
Paradoxical to say the least.

I have managed to go with others on several occasions to hike nude along a trail through mountainous terrain to Deep Creek, and out from there. I just have missed doing that on World Nude Hiking Day.

Nude hiking is something to celebrate and be grateful for, so yes, why not everyday?

Well I have limitations from going there often, so it makes it be a long time from last time to any next time, but I am good for hiking and would in fact like hiking on any day, and doing so completely nude, if I am not sick, anyway.

For those in the North east. The Solstice hike in Vermont.

The annual Naked Hiking Day (AKA summer solstice) nude hike will be on Thursday, June 20, 2024.  (That is the actual date of the solstice this year, thanks to leap year.).

As in many previous years, meet at the AT parking lot on Forest Road 10 (AKA Mt Tabor Rd) east of Mt Tabor, Vermont, at 9 a.m.

This year there will be two options.

The longer hike will be the same one done in many previous years. From the parking lot on Forest Road 10, participants will carpool to the start of the hike at the AT parking lot on Vermont Rt 140, 2.6 miles east of Wallingford. The hike will be approximately 10 miles long.  After 8 miles we will arrive at Little Rock Pond, offering an excellent skinny dipping opportunity.  The walk out to the Forest Rd 10 parking lot is then just 2 miles long.

A second option will be available for those who want something shorter than 10 miles.  It will depart from the parking lot on Forest Rd 10.  It is a loop that climbs up to the top of Green Mountain (which overlooks Little Rock Pond)m and then descends steeply down to the pond, where we may be able to rejoin the group doing the longer hike.  This option is about 6.5 miles long.  (Please let me know if you plan to use this option.)

Those who wish to join for an even shorter adventure can hike from Forest Road 10 to Little Rock Pond, about 2 miles each way.  The main group will probably arrive at the pond around 3:30 or 4 p.m.

After the hike, join us at Sam's Wood-fired Pizza, 4478 Main St, Manchester VT, for dinner.

Camping is available at Emerald Lake State Park, about a 20 minute drive from the meeting point for the solstice hike.  No-fee camping is also available at the Big Branch shelter on the AT/Long Trail, about 1.2 miles south of the Forest Road 10 meeting point for the solstice hike

Only managed a couple of hours in the back-yard I'm afraid, but will try to honour the spirit of WNHD next week in Norfolk, UK.

Overcast, 109F, threat of rain...I just didn't feel like a drive and a hike. I felt like writing about hikes. The solstice celebration was cloudy, so the henge couldn't work. Thought to try ir again on Friday, but more clouds.

Good news is that a monsoon type rain pattern is putting an end to the three months of drought and the daily high temps will drop to around low one hundreds. That means that the days and evenings will be down in the 80F's and 90F's most of the time, our second spring may have arrived and some of my favorite places will be available.

Another thing after living in a tent and hiking almost everyday for a month, I don't feel that I'm a non-participant. ;D Next year.

On June 21 we had a sunny 80F ( 26 C).  I went out to the far end of our land, about 1/2 mile each way.  Not a distant hike, but hey, I'm almost 80. It was a very nice day to be out.  I could probably count on one hand the number of good warm days we have had so far this year.

There is a contractor cutting down trees growing close to the road that runs past our land on the far side.  Many of the trees they cut have been there for a long while, decades at least.  We don't know why the county government that owns the roads are paying to have trees cut and removed.  Anyway I walked north across my neighbor's land to see what trees they were cutting that day.  There was a crew of about 4 men with a wood chipper to shred all the branches.  I stood and watched them for a few minutes before walking toward home.
