Self portrait pictures
« on: July 03, 2020, 09:25:38 AM »
To answer Jbeegood in another topic: "You have captured the photos so well, especially as self images. Do you take several on a timer, as you run to get in place, or one counted slowly as you pose? How would you say is the best way to get such a natural look to the subject? "
For these self-portraits in the field I use a compact camera, but one that allows me to take pictures in raw format so I can work on the computer later. It also has the possibility to take pictures in interval mode, i.e. I can program the number of pictures and the duration between each picture. For example, I often use an interval of three or four seconds which gives me a good twenty photos and I only have to choose the best one or two afterwards.
I always use a mini tripod that is flexible enough that I can bend its feet and put it on a rock, a fence, and even on my walking stick planted in the ground or even hang it on a tree branch.
I like hiking, running, kayaking, biking, sailing, geocaching...naked of course!

Ah, twenty photos in 30 or 60 seconds on a gorilla pod. It must be fun to flip through them quickly and make an old time film-like movie.

Our cameras won't take a series so extravagantly. It is much more tedious to get just a few.

I suppose with more distance, the image can be framed closer afterwards.

What compact camera does so many shots?

I don't crop the images. I just choose the final format.
My camera is an olympus TG4. It's a shock-proof and waterproof device. (but it's no more waterproof;-(

I have also used a mini-tripod with an adapter clamp that holds my cell phone. Then a bluetooth remote shutter release allows me to get into position and take the photo when I like. This one, for example, shows the black strap for the bluetooth release dangling from my left hand.
