When a member of the Society of Creative Anachronisms got too frivolous in their Medieval garb, they would come back to their camp/tent with plastic pink flamingos placed at their door step. A message of too much.
To me these things are a joke in a laid out front yard, and tacky, but I enjoy them in the backyard, like I might enjoy Greek statuary art in a garden. Give me a more natural look. A little doodad here and there can be fun, but also have the appeal of garbage. A difference would be a display to impress the public compared to a fun nicknack, or surprise. Still, gnomes are so cute, it is difficult to be offended by them.
Today, I have a blank canvass in my yard. One huge tree. As time goes on, it will evolve. I have stained glass that will become flowers and trippy sculpture, little pieces of art, classic sitting areas, a structure around something practical. Cute little naked people would be as welcome as big ones.
I think that the location, and size of a front yard make a difference. In an elegant front yard, tacky. In a tiny space in front of a trailer in a mom and pop nudist community, what the heck, fun.
