I think Christmas should be staggered throughout the year with the population divided into say 8 or 10 divisions and get allocated their Christmas day holiday every 5 or 6 weeks.  That would iron out the mad, frenetic, stressful rush to the holidays every year!!  :) :D
John

That would mean 12 months' worth of Christmas advertising and jingles on the telly, John. You haven't thought this through, have you?

Anyway, Christmas etc are meant to be mid-winter celebrations, usually with some religious element but mainly an excuse for a blowout in the year's darkest days (literally) - it's been spoiled by the consumerism that has become attached to it, and in any case pretty much made redundant since the invention of the electric lamp. Bah, humbug!!

I'll be having lots of Turkey this year!  Early Xmas dinner with friends in early December and normal Christmas dinner with family on 25th!
Turkey...Yum!  My favourite bits are the drumsticks and the dark meat :)
Only regret - won't have the opportunity to eat it naked! It would taste even better without clothes (me that is, not the turkey!).
John

Unfortunately I won’t be having Christmas thanks to our greedy capitalist overlords. My new job for a fucking call centre for a fucking bank has got me working over Christmas. And it’s the ridiculous right who accuse us loony lefties of wanting to cancel Christmas!

My guess is that the bank is more focused on customer service than on making profits on a holiday.   I doubt if a call centre is all about high profits any day of the year.  Call centres are usually an expense they pay in order to take care of any problems a customer may be having.  Your bank and your call centre job may be different.  Lots of people would be glad to have a job and an income.  If you are really that offended by your employer you ought to quit, or should not have taken the job.

Back when I sometimes had to work weekends or holidays I often ended up the only person in the office so I could work naked.   Watch out for video surveillance these days.

It all depends on how you view Midwinter Solstice.   Religions are not all the same.

Well there was a silly Christmas pyjamas night last week which I didn’t take part in. They asked why I didn’t so I told them I’d be arrested if I had.

I'd have to go out and buy PJ's for that one occasion and then turn them over to the good will...such waste...better spent on a nice dinner out.
I suppose that you could have come in an old sheet like a toga.

Hmmm, Peter...you're right.  Needs careful further consideration.  12 months of the same old 15 carols and xmas songs on all media and shop PAs would drive me utterly stark raving mad!!
....It would smooth out the Turkey farmers' year though! :)

Yes.  Getting dressed to go to bed is just about as silly as getting dressed to go swimming.

Actually getting dressed at all is pretty silly most of the time.

Yup, but I confess hat I have been putting on a robe in the morning and sweats while working on the sweat lodge project and the rainwater harvesting systems, this last few days. After all of those unseasonable highs that La Nina has brought, this week, the daily highs dipped down into the 60F and lows 40F-ish and high 30's. That's our winter temps and I'm not acclimated...yet.

Shoes, sweat shirt and gloves.

Yup, MOST of the time.  ;)

John

Wearing clothing to stay warm has given me the opportunity to work on some weeding, channeling and planting prep outside of my wall, by the street. I have consistently been putting these things further down on the list, just because I didn't want to get dressed, I confess. There is a time and place under heaven. Being three blocks from a major police station, I don't have the freedom to work nude near the road, like Bob, bless his good fortune does. I was dressed for a good 8 hours straight, the other day!

La Nina has been a boon to us. Those Fall color changes were done when the temps are usually much cooler. Other than going out dancing, eating and shopping once a week, I've been naked, pretty much all year. Nuduke, your comment of shock was mirrored by me when found myself dressed outside, working in my own yard.

Yes, the fabric has shifted momentarily in our universe. Shift happens.

We had 7 F (-12C ?) this morning.   I had my sweats, shoes, coat, gloves, and knit hat to go sweep snow off the car.   Cold weather is the only good reason to wear clothes.
