I found this on Twitter from the Naturist Society.  It's pretty much what I've been saying for quite a while.  The first thing nudists need to do to legalize nudity is to change our own minds.

For me, one of the curious things about writing these blogs is that I never really know how they are going to be received.[/qoute]

That would be coming out of the closet, so to speak. To be brave, to take a risk at work and with family members, to be themselves, to merely demand to be accepted as themselves, sounds similar to a Gay lib. It was a big deal for gays to do that, but it made a difference. To not be ashamed of who you are. To live your life authentically. Suddenly many many people realized that they had relatives, friends, people that they cared about that were some kind of gay...different. Suddenly the gay thing was getting outside support.

About 6% of people are gay. Then very roughly 40% are various on a straight/gay spectrum. A little tendency to more tendency. Bi-sexual, or just a little, various degrees. So, I'm pretty sure that most nudes are more than 6% of the population and we have less to worry about by being authentic than gays did. Also, a greater percentage of nudes are on a spectrum like around the house to all the time.

So, nudes worry about relatives, or bosses finding out. I've got to wonder, just how many nudes have been hurt by being authentic, being seen, letting people around them know. I'll bet that it is few. Nude clubs are not being shot up, kids don't go around "rolling nudes" the way that they used to "roll queers."

There is debate about, HAVING to be gay opposed to having to be nude. Nude is considered a choice, but the gays got past that misinformation, eventually. They are now considered to be born that way.

I was born without clothing and never really liked getting dressed, always felt much better without, not my preference, you can get used to anything, but i don't feel good cooped up....not quite the same. I wasn't born to live in a prison either. Guess I'm a saying that we couldn't model our path too exactly like the one gay lib took.
Then there is gay and not in others face with it, and just doing it in your own time vs nude would be nude and seen.

I had a friend who was on my site pictured. A week later, some business associate told her that he saw her there. She wanted me to remove the photos. She was afraid that it would interfere with her job with the city and will wait until she retires! I doubt that it would cause a problem, but she was reluctant to take the risk.

Even DF was concerned about "morals" clauses at her work for years.

You can get arrested and it can mess up your whole life and budget. Used to be that way for gays. There are still unenforced old laws on the books against them.

I think that it is a lesson learned that we do have to be honest, authentic and let people know.

There was a Twitter, or facebook site that allowed Australians to bare it on line. There were tens of thousands of people who let it out there. Then, the web masters started to close down sites with nudlty and it was taken off.

The new Twitter apparently allows nude pictures.  They put a blur over it but that goes away if you click the picture.  I've been posting there, and so have many other nudists.  Good for Elon Musk.

I've been dreading the effect of misinformation and people grabbing attention om Twitter. Musk's new rules seemed irresponsible, but then again there is some absolute need for hands off of free speech. too.

This is the good news that makes my concerns more easily swallowed...like I could do anything about it. ;D

Maybe, such a site could be set up there?

Peter - yes, I think your description of the British attitudes and observers' mindsets is very true!
Davie, full marks to your walking groups - normalisation - yes indeed, that's one key to considerable progress, I'm sure.

On the comments about Social media, I heard this morning that Facebook is now censoring nude pictures in "Private Messaging" as well as their general postings.   No free speech there at all.

I assumed that it was across the board body censorship on FAcebook...off the pigs!

Facebook sent me a message that there had been unusual activity on my account and that I am banned, until I send them government ID to prove who I am. F THAT! They sell my info and now that! I checked and it is not a scam. Theynow want to do that!

Yes.  Facebook demands to know who you really are, your street ID name and address, to sell to their advertisers.

Facebook allowed nude pictures on personal messages until quite recently.

I haven't talked to anybody who had t present ID to Facebook that I have asked.

My son suggested just getting another email address and a false name. I'll try that. I don't use it but to coordinate sweat functions and a couple of nature groups. I never post my personal information, pics, or use the home page for posting.

You know me.  I went through that a few years ago.   Myself and a Tibetan Monk wanted to use religious names, but FB is all about advertising sales.  They will allow you to use a "screen name" but they demand to know your "legal" or street ID name and address.  And, they sell the information, including anything you post or follow, to corporate sales marketing companies.

I've been looking at Captain Barefoot's website - the guide to beaches with nude use or nude potential in the Greek Islands. A few years ago it seemed to have become rather out of date but there are now some recent comments updating the observed status of beaches on many of the islands.

http://www.capnbarefoot.info/

It has struck me how many of his correspondents just assume that non-nude people on even an accepted nude beach are likely to object to nudity in others. This seems to be true quite often at weekends when the local Greeks come to the beach, and it may be fair enough that they can see nude tourists as an unwelcome invasion of long-standing favourite family places. On the other hand, those who dare to be the first to strip on arriving at a beach populated with non-local costume-wearers (at least when the beach is known for nudity) can often find several others taking heart and stripping too. It makes sense that many first-time visitors, even to a beach they believe to be nude-friendly, only dare to strip when they see somebody else do it first. This translates into a situation whereby the first people on the beach on any day set the "undress code" for everyone else on that day - sad!

Moral - be brave and undress. Usually nobody will mind and sometimes you'll start a trend.

Or, just ask. You might meet some friendly nice people, or change someone's mind, or meet a fellow nudist that is playing "wait and see", but you will know that your behavior is accepted.

Captain Barefoot is a marked major resource for whenever it works out for our Greek vacation on my computer. Updated info is essential. Otherwise, I'll have to read between the lines. At the least, it gives clues to what to expect, or what to look forward to. For instance, if there are several nude places on an island, then I get a feel for the local attitudes and know of at least one good beach.

There is lots of information as to what's a good beach for other reasons there, too.

Yes, we are trained from an early age to fear being seen naked.  Some horrible fate will befall us, or so our mothers taught.   In more than half a century of going naked in public places it has been my experience that 99% of non-nude people I've met just accept my lack of clothing with either indifference or applause.  That 1% has only objected enough to make a negative comment.  Nothing bad has ever happened to me.   When I act as if nude is normal almost everyone accepts my choice.  I'm not surprised that applies on Greek beaches as much as US forests.

I hope so.   Lots of people are only waiting for someone to lead the way.

Yes, Fellsnude - I too have experienced Greek objection to naturism in the beach: Many, many years ago, my wife and I were on holiday in Crete and discovered, along the coast from our resort, was a naturist beach where, incidentally, I first discovered proper naturism.  We visited that beach 2 or 3 times, not least as it was much less busy than the surrounding hotel orientated swimwear-clad beaches.  One amusing thing was that each day in the early afternoon, a wizened, elderly Greek lady would come down onto the beach and berate the evil naturists for several minutes with frowns, shouts and gesticulations (I assume she was objecting anyway, I speak no Greek!).

This kinda sorta fits the topic. Please bare with me, it will be in 2 or 3 parts.
Years ago and before I bought my house with a very private pool and back yard, I used to go to Blacks Beach in La Jolla on my days off. It was my first extended foray into the clothing optional life and a return to reason and faith for me.
For those who've never been, the nude beach is below a set of cliffs in northern San Diego. The cliffs are a few hundred feet high and one must descend one of two trails to access the beach from the parking area. The bottom of the trail is near the boundary line between the city beach which is off to the left or south and the state beach which is to the right or north and the nude area extends about 1 1/2 miles north from the bottom of the trail.

If memory serves, initially the city beach to the left was the nude beach and when an anti-nude law was passed by the city, the state allowed nude use on part of the Torrey Pines State Beach.

During the mid-eighties to mid-nineties when I was doing my most frequent visits that was the way the situation was.

There were seasonal lifeguard towers or patrols between Memorial Day and Labor Day and they would line up orange safety cones between the cliffs and the water marking the border between the city and state beach. Generally, anyone walking nude south passed the cones would be met by a lifeguard truck telling them to dress or return north to the beach.

The first year I was visiting the beach I noticed that after Labor Day the lifeguards and the cones were gone yet everyone seemed to still dress at the appropriate spot when walking south on the beach. Many people would walk up from the clothed beach and remove their shorts or bikinis at the state marker and then dress again when returning to the clothed beach. I would do the same thing. I would walk nude to the north end of the nude beach with shorts in hand and then south to the clothed beach, put on my shorts and continue walking south to the end and then remove them on my return to the nude side. This would constitute a nice 3-4 mile walk.

One day while walking nude toward the clothed beach I noticed a nude person ahead of me approaching the clothed beach border. Instead of dressing in the usual area this person stayed nude and kept on walking passed the clothed beach goers. I have to say it was very titillating to watch and I started getting an urge to follow suit-less (no pun).

There was always a crowd of clothed people just across the border as it was the closest place to the cliff trail for textiles visiting the beach. I had watched the person pass by the clothed border and now I was doing the same. It was an unmarked line yet it was as if a verboten barrier had been crossed. All kinds of sensations of risk taking and exhilaration began swelling up inside me and I was only a few feet across the line. I couldn't believe what I was doing yet I had the urge to keep going and couldn't really stop following the person who was maybe 100 feet in front of me.

The beach is long and after the initial crowd there were sparse groups of singles, couples or small groups of people filling in the distance to the end. I was nude in this clothed land and I couldn't stop going. Approaching every group brought on these same sensations. Several times I wanted to stop and dress yet the pure rush of it all and the urge to continue was overwhelming.

At the end of the beach there is a road descending from a neighborhood in La Jolla. This road is used for lifeguard and other official vehicles to access the area. If one continues on the beach after this road there is a cliff outcropping into the ocean with a narrow trail around that leads to another textile and the La Jolla shores area.

As we reached the end of the beach near the road, I had closed the gap with the other nude person to about 30 feet. I watched as he walked up toward the cliffs found his towel, put on his shorts and laid on the towel. Now I was the only nude person about a mile down from the nude section.
This part of the beach is also more crowded as many people park and walk down the road to the beach

The feeling of exhilaration was still there yet i also began to feel a bit apprehensive. Clothed people were walking back and forth passing me on the beach. No one said anything yet I got a bit nervous and decided to leave. I wanted to put on my shorts yet thought that might look desperate or guilty looking so I continued north up toward the nude section dressing in a sparse area of beach between groups of people.

Overall it was such an excitingly overly sensual experience and was such a rush that I knew it would not be the last time. I was still new to the clothing optional living life. A seed had been planted and I knew I would do it again.
