All Trails website clothing optional.
« on: January 25, 2023, 09:47:38 PM »

I may be the last person in the world to find this out ,yet I found it interesting. I finally opened an All Trails account as I wanted some detailed information about some areas around the Sierras and also the Mecca Hills where I plan to do some nude hiking this spring and summer.

Mecca Hills Wilderness is part of the Southern California Desert Dist of the Bureau of Land Management. Nude recreation away from capital improvements is no problem. I've gone on several nude hikes in the area and once ran into a large men's group of nude hikers from Palm Springs out hiking as well.

In searching for hikes around Mecca Hills I came across a trail for Sheep Hole Oasis. I have hiked this trail nude a couple times in the past. Due to flooding. you sometimes need 4X4 to get to the trail head from Box Canyon rd. and I wanted to see if there were any recent pictures of the parking area that might help me out. I clicked on the link for the trail and saw there were many pictures .

I started scrolling down the pictures which are in rows of 3. At the 27th row I saw a picture of the parking area with a vehicle and 2 people standing by it. They almost looked like they were nude.  I clicked on the thumbnail and saw the two hikers by the vehicle were nude. There was no disclaimer or warning,or blurring, the picture just opened At the bottom of the photo there is a link to the person posting the photo. The person posting has links to many hikes in the area and about 420 photos all together. There many photos from several nude hikes of the group I ran into hiking nude before.

I checked some other areas with nude use like Black's Beach and Arizona hot springs. There were many many pictures yet a few had nude people if they happened to be in the picture.
I checked the Jacumba area around De Anza Springs and there is a hike listed for Round Mountain. There are a few pictures included of a nude hike from the resort and the person posting has a few other nude hikes on their member page as well.

It seems All Trails has no problem with nude hiking or posting on their website

All Trails has a trail section for Tanque Verde Falls, JB.

Makes me want to join, just to post.

I've spent a little time looking into that Mecca area near Palm Springs. What have you found? Can you give me names or links so that I might research better. I've thought that it might be a good place for off season hiking when things are cold elsewhere.

There are a few trails that gay men like to hike nude and I read about the group. Perhaps one could ask them?

Kudos for researching for what to do during the warmer times. A well, done bucket list with shall we say," Be prepared."  ;)

So, did you find an nudes at Tanque Verde FAlls, or Redington Pass?

All Trails does offer a free 7 day trial and it is only 2.99 a month so I am keeping it.

You can search Mecca Hills and a lot of hikes will come up on the all trails site. The men's group told me they hike on Tue and Thur. There is a meetup nude hike at Big Utah canyon in Mecca Hills on March 12th I think, So Cal Naturist Assoc is organizing it I think. Another nude hike is scheduled for the end of March to the Carrizo Gorge overlook near De Anza Springs.

There is a book called 140 hikes in and near Palm Springs that lists a lot of trails in the Mecca Hills. The whole place is BLM wilderness and pretty much clothing optional. Ladder Canyon is probably the most popular with non nudists. All other trails are generally deserted. The only people I've ever seen out there hiking is the aforementioned men's nude hiking group. They do know all the trails yet have their own names for them so it doesn't help.

All trails in Mecca hills are generally off of Box Canyon Rd. or Painted Canyon Rd. which is a dirt road off of Box Canyon.

I'm still getting used to the all trails site. Tanque Verde site has hundreds of photos. Out of curiosity I searched nude hikes and another Tanque Verde site came up with less photos.  There are a lot of pictures of the sign that says nude area. There are a couple of far away shots of the beach with nudists yet nothing like the collection you and D.F. have.

There are several blm wilderness areas east of Mecca Hills as well. I have a book on them and will send you the title when I locate it

Sorry this is late JB. It took me a bit to find the wilderness book.

For Southern California, one of the best books is California Wilderness Areas, The complete guide, Vol. 2, The deserts. By George Wuerthner.

The wilderness areas are managed by several different agencies and on the first page of each area the managing agency is listed. Those listed with a BLM managing office in the BLM So Cal desert district like the Palm Springs and El Centro office are clothing optional away from capital improvements. Mecca Hills is one of them as is the adjacent Orocopia

Another good book is 140 Great Hikes in and around Palm Springs by Phil Ferranti. There is a section in there about the Mecca Hills. There are alot of other BLM wilderness areas around Palm Springs.

There are a lot of pictures at Tanque of a nude beach or area sign yet no actual nudes. You should post some as you might get more interest in your web site.
Most of the nude hike pictures are from a few people and mainly around Mecca Hills and Jacumba. Secret Beach in Tahoe and some at Blacks Beach.

I signed up for All Trails.   So far I'm not seeing any support for nude hiking, or pictures of nude hiking.  It takes me a while to learn new web sites.

Looks like warm options for hiking. I've got the info stashed away in the bucket notes on my computer, now.

After reading this thread, I visited AllTrails. I've visited the site before, but never had an account. A dialog box popped up, suggesting that I log in with my Google account, so I tried that. As mentioned above, there's a lot to learn about the site, and I don't know too much about it. However, using my Google account, and not starting an actual AllTrails account (free trial or otherwise) I was able to make a post about the Carrizo Gorge Railroad trail. I was going to submit some photos, to test out the nude-friendliness aspect, but wasn't able to figure out how to post any photos, at all. Maybe you don't get to post photos without an actual AllTrails account. I did review all photos related to the railroad hike, and didn't see any nudity. Not sure what that really means, given that the trail is easily accessed from/near DeAnza Springs Resort, and that both nude and textile hikers frequently hike the tracks. Perhaps I'll try the "free trial" account, and see how that works.
Have a blessed NUDE day!

Well, a little update on my experiment into AllTrails. As I'd mentioned, I "logged in" via my Google account, as offered, without creating any type of account on the AllTrails site. I had been immediately able to post a trip report, but not able to post photos. In my trip report, I made it very clear that I'd done the hike nude.

My Carrizo Gorge Railway trip report, as "Jim T":
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/carrizo-gorge-railway?search=true

When I accessed the site yesterday, I found the "Upload Photos" button. It may have been a new account delay, or I may have simply overlooked it the first time. If you click "Photos" at the top banner, you'll see the photos for that trail, but no upload button. If you click "Photos" down near the "Write Review" section, you'll get the upload button.

At any rate, I was able to upload four photos from my hike. One shows no nudity...well, my shadow was nude, but that's all you see of me. Another showed me, with some brush obscuring my bare backside...if you look closely, you can tell that I'm nude, but it's not real obvious. Another shows me walking toward the camera across a trellis...fully nude, but somewhat obscured due to sunlight from behind. In the thumbnail, it's not clearly obvious that I'm nude, but if you enlarge the photo, it's obvious. Another shows me walking through one of the tunnels, fully nude and in view, but in the dim light of the tunnel interior. Even in the thumbnail, it's easy to see that I'm nude. If you enlarge that one, my backside is plainly visible.

So, I suppose time will tell as to whether nude photos are supported on the site, or if they'll be deleted. If the photos stay, I'll try adding a few more on some other trails. One thing is that these are on an established trail page, not a new trail submission. My photos are among over 900 other photos, although they are currently displayed near the top of the list. If nude photos were uploaded while submitting a brand-new trail for the site, they might not be accepted.

Maybe if a few of us "free range" a few photos onto the site, it will become accepted. The site's rules don't specifically mention "nudity", but they do say they don't want "selfies". So maybe trail-focused photos, that just happen to have a nude hiker somewhere in the shot may be tolerated. If you give it a try, be sure to let us all know how it goes!
Have a blessed NUDE day!

Nice pictures Jim.   The pictures don't show up reading about the trail, but I can see them clicking on your profile.

I'll try uploading some too.
I'm Greenbare Woods on Alltrails.

This is the Columbia Plateau Trail near Beverly, WA. It's officially a state park.  That's about 10 miles shout of I-90 at Vantage.  .
We'll see how long this lasts on Altrails.

Hmm, no luck here. When I went to reset my password, it may not have worked because I didn't allow cookies. I did click the profile and saw only one pic of a shadow.

Sometimes the worst pic mistakes can be so handy, by obscuring genitals and faces and unflattering photos. I've learned a whole host of tricks from my mistakes. I sometimes combine these with my editing.

Yep!

A guy with a short beard said to me that I'd been "working on the beard longer than he had". I told him "No, I haven't been working on the beard, I've just left it alone and let it do all the work...that's how the beard works!"
