I will refrain from any rant involving "adult" content and move on to the sorrow that has over taken me at the loss of the vast treasure trove of naturist information, pictures and stories. Perhaps someday in the future the NSA will turn over the files to someone that will recover the site. Until then time moves on and there is a big world to be explored. Jbee, I hope you find healing in the mountains and as for myself I will acknowledge the passing with a bottle of natures best affordable wine! To add insult to injury this is already the wettest June on record and the expectation is we will receive two more inches of the liquid sunshine before the weekend is finished.

I had a similar response when I saw "adult content", and briefly thought about a rant, but it subsided.

i.g. Mouth agape! Where do these definitions come from, The Outer Limits?
The brain is not grasping the leap.

Ohh, well. I know Lookee had backups from the last time we had a hiccup. I don't know though if he had them personally or if they were maintained at the server site.

I wonder if they could be resurrected?

If you don't I will. I woke up to many thoughts on this topic. This could be a  very serious treat to naturism on the net. My grief process has me getting to the angry part and this is the focal point of that. The lost hiker has been found and it is dead. It's time to come to terms. I'll share this later...after I come down from the mountain ;D

Paul seemed pretty conclusive, "irretrievable."

Hi Jbee,  "irretrievable" that's what I,ve been told from Lookee who is the site owner.
Yes the term "Adult content" is giving me mixed feelings. I feel sad about how people think about the human body and on the other side it makes me blazing mad that they just deleted the whole website and just canceled the account.  All the work and time that people invested, gone with one mouse click. There was not one indecent picture or one line offensive text to be found at the entire website.  Again this is proving that they have just got the wrong idea about naturism. They have no problems with sites that show violence and other terrible things though.

Cheers,
Paul

Stunned... wha...what do we do from here on out?  :'(Karla and Stuart, as our history has gone, we would probably generally pretty much take over this site. Can you put up with that, or should we think of an alternative? This format isn't that much different from TSNS (Who owns the TSNS domain name anyway?). You have been helpful and inviting. Could you deal with a long term relationship with over 300 posts each month (old TSNS stats)? :-*

Yeah sure I'd hate to see a community die. Just text posts is fine. The bandwidth isn't that much if we don't have to save the photos as well. I'll start making back-ups. My sustainability forum had more posts than that at one point. The time was mainly spent moderating it but that was also one that included a lot of debate.

I have heard that some websites and forums farm out their oversight to countries that take a dim or distorted view of the human body let alone naturism. I do miss reading the adventures on the old site; mostly on days like today where there is nothing pressing and the weather is grey and rain (over two inches predicted). Unlike most places I visit there seems to be a single purpose among us enjoying nature as it was intended. No arguments about free range vs. resorts, shaving or not, single or in a group nudism, membership in an organization or trolls. Now if I could get some cooperation from the nudism gods then maybe there would be a good story to tell!

They have no problems with sites that show violence and other terrible things though.

Outside of the murky discussions of what is 'offensive' with regard to nudity, I am 'offended' at the imperial attitude displayed without offering to archive the data and allowing the owner to take possession of the content. He was a paying customer and owned it and should at least been given the option to retrieve it.

Offensive encompasses more than pornography. Extreme violence, bigotry and other forms of blinkered thinking certainly qualify.

To single out an 'easy' target such as naturism is sophomoric, lazy and an insulting sacrifice to satisfy the politically correct culture that is in control. Most likely it was motivated by an mindset obsessed with limiting their liability exposure.

Ok! I'm done! I will try to curtail my ranting going forward.

Sorry for the late reply, but I've got bad news. The hosting company changed hands and the new company has a new terms of service policy. The site was shut down and account canceled due to the "adult" content which violates the [new] terms of service.  We were given 14 days notice, but it was to an email account I usually get one email a year on [in February], so I hadn't checked it in a while. So, in short, the SNS site is irretrievably gone. :(

Thought it might be useful to mention that FRN is actually hosted by a company that specialises in providing hosting services to websites of adult content. It's kind of annoying that it has to be that way because the site has nothing to do with sex but we wanted to make sure that there would be no problems involving pictures of nudity.

Thank you Karla,

That does provide some additional confidence, even though I find it depressing that it has to that way.

Have fun,

Ok! Hi folks!
I finally got here!  Had some emails with Ian and Jbee.
I had a go at joining this forum just after the inestimable Stuart & Karla created it and the registration failed and Stuart couldn't fix it so I just left it. Trying to register just now it kept kicking me out because lo & behold someone was using the logon and email and guess what... it was me all along! :D
So perhaps unfortunately for you, you haven't managed to shake me off! But I'm so glad to be back in the company of at least some of the most august and worshipful members of TSNS. (more of this thought in an upcoming post)

Now then, speaking volumetrically* at least, being a main contributor, I share totally the massive sadness at the loss of TSNS.  All that time, words, feelings, views, pictures and sheer cameraderie and enjoyment of each others company.  Gone in the flick of a switch.

Knowing a little about websites, the data and content have to be on file.  Is this new hosting firm so fascist that it can't allow the content to be migrated elsewhere?

PAUL, could you perhaps ask that question?  We shouldn't go down without a fight.  With due respect to jbee's remarks about bereavement and grief upon which I recognise his professional expertise, even if it's not very grief friendly, might we not seek further to rescue our beloved TSNS site. Could you, Paul, facilitate getting us collectively in direct contact with Lookee and maybe some of us can try and seek ways of encouraging a renaissance or getting the site data from him if he's lost the will to continue hosting?  Come on, men (and DF) let us fight for our rights!

John

Hey, John!

It's about time you got here! I went to the Yahoo site and made a list of those registered there with an eye to sending an email to just say, "We're over here!".

But the names are slowly showing up here anyway. Maybe I'll wait a bit longer.

I think I asked this question earlier, maybe elsewhere. It sounds perfectly reasonable. The content has to be somewhere on a hard-drive. They can't have just dumped the entire site. I'm sure there we're sites "not offensive" that would have been lost also.

The data has to be somewhere, it's just a matter of finding it.

Other TSNS names from the Yahoo site not yet in attendance:

Nigel (nib)
Mark (yorksnakedman)
Larry (tanman)
FuzzyBare (sounded familiar - not sure)
John (JOhn - canal boater)
jmf (from France)
Tim (sfxtd)
Tom (moth ?)
Tony

some other names there I didn't recognize,

Keith
David
George

I didn't remember their names that well.

There are others, e.g. Dave, nova etc. whose contacts are not even there. So many, all lost.

There's no way to know it they will find this website.

Hi Duane, yes, I was a bit slow on the uptake here because I was waiting for TSNS to come back after a short pause!  After a short pause I waited another short pause and so on till it got to a bit too long!

This is the thought that I had in my previous post and relates to your list.  I don't think I could enumerate too many TSNSers off the top of my head either and have contact with very few by external email.  But since the wreck of the good ship Lookeeme, not only do I feel sad, I feel we need to mount a bit of a rescue mission for the TSNS castaways who have yet not been washed up here on NakedMunro Island.  Yet I do have a few, Larry's for instance, and I can think of one or two more that are 'out there' and public enough to make contact easily - johnbare for instance via BN and nib via his website (he's already signed in here) and jmf via Randonnues.

Maybe, wondering in hope, that the 4 or 5 of us castaways on Naked Munro Island might each have an email or two of our TSNS friends that are still floating shipwrecked in the great cyber ocean and could get in touch with some others by smoke signals (email) and get them safe to this shore.  Of those we contact, we can ask them to cascade to others they may have contacted in the past.  I have no contact for Hymie or dear old Dave Balead who will be missing us badly if he hasn't thought to look here.  But from the 2008 AHG meetup, I bet Larry has his email.

Equally, those of us that are members of other forums that TSNS members belong to could put out the word on those sites.  Davie is on Naturist Friends for instance as is Ian and jbee and so the former could be alerted by a post from either of the latter two.

What say you, Munro islanders?  Can we spread the word like this and try to regroup?  I shall look out my one or two email addresses in the morning and hoist the old flag up a tall palm tree on the shore of our current haven and also send semaphore to try to contact the other not-so-secret naturists I mentioned.

Hey! A quick scan shows that Nudewalker, Hymie and possibly ricc as ric are registered here but a long time ago and no activity.  I wonder if they might get back here to read this thread?

I received a notification on my email about a PM from Eyesup. If they are registered here, a PM may also turn up on their email carrier. Tanman had a visit with Hymie years ago and they were together at Tanman & Lisa's wedding. Contacting Tanman would lead us to Hymie.

We might all do what we can. Sometimes redundant effort is what works.
