I see this forum has a poll option so I thought I would start a poll about answering the door naked for visitors.  Polls are fun.   ;D

I rarely get naked at home. Not unless it's really hot and humid and it's more comfortable to be naked. Nudity at home is only done for comfort. I'm actually extremely sensitive to stimuli, tactile, auditory, smell etc. I prefer being naked outdoors because it feels more natural. It doesn't feel more natural indoors because it's not a natural environment. Also, when naked indoors though I am just more aware of having to sit on a towel or whatever I find it more distracting. So if someone was to knock on the door I would put on a dressing gown.

I just don't know what it is about feeling the grass under my feet. Even when waiting at a bus stop I will prefer to stand on the grass. I was put off jogging for long because the thought of running on tarmac was really off putting but I've started occasionally jogging around the local park where I can stay on the grass.

That said, when we lived in Munich we would routinely be naked indoors because of the heat, probably for about six months of the year. I would cover up to answer the door, but then I'm from a part of the world where they locked Steve Gough up for years for being naked, so a certain trepidation about being naked in front of others when I don't know they're okay with it is built into my cultural psyche.

I don't get many unannounced guests out where  live. It is a drive from town and strangers are intimidated (one might encounter an armed spooked person in the rural atmosphere). I know that they are coming and dress, or not, accordingly. If I'm home, I'm nude. Everyone knows to call first, if they don't wish to see us nude.

Karla, have you read about Earthing.com? The grass naked, or just barefoot has broad health benefits. There is a fun well produced movie on youtube about it.

We have the same situation, Jbee.  We hardly get any visitors except delivery people USPS, UPS, FedEx, etc. and the Jehovah's Witnesses ever couple of years.  Sometimes I am naked for the delivery people.  And I prefer to welcome the Witnesses naked.  Give them something human to witness.

We have not had Jehovah Witnesses here for a few years. In fact the last time I opened the door naked to greet them. Naked at home? A good 90% of the time as we try to save on A/C bills in the summer however the wife does have issues so the house has to be a bit warmer in winter so I'm comfortable nude. As for company, there are those who know and accept it others call before stopping by the house.

I love going barefoot. On the SNS website there was a guy a few years ago that did most everything barefoot. I especially like the feel of grass and small pebbles. It's like getting a foot massage. I once tried to go barefoot on a desert hike and I was able to last about 50 yds. before I had to put my shoes back on.

Too many sharp points.

I went out once on a hike in the desert where I cached my clothes and left them behind. After a while I decided to lay down for a bit of sun and relaxation. Usually I would spread my clothes out and lay on them. This time I didn't have them, so I laid down in the desert and relaxed for a while. If you've ever been in the desert, you know the kind of ground that is there. It's covered with prickly points, sharp rocks, pieces of all sorts of things in various stages of degradation. It was actually rather pleasant. An allover skin stimulation. I had to move a few larger rocks and made sure I wasn't laying down on a small cactus, otherwise it wasn't bad. I've never had accupuncture but I guess that's the closest I could say it was like.

Add to that the wind, the sun and all the critters that live out there, I was almost relaxed to the point of taking a nap.

Very nice.

Yea, Eyesup, I my habitat is desert, too. I look for sandy surfaces, like washes and large smooth flat pieces of granite or sand stone. The sand feels like a beach. I have a wonderful secluded rock that I frequent near where I live. The temperature and sun’s exposure make the decision to sit or lay down, as well.

In reference to the Earthing.com  above, the fun movie “Grounded” is on youtube for free. The stuff works and most of us are missing it. It would partly explain your affinity with grass. For me, it’s barefoot all over, whenever possible.

Back to topic: Jehovah’s Witnesses used to stop by back when I had a track house on the eastside. One day, I got tired of them. Hiding behind the door, I stuck one bare leg around and told them, “No thank-you, I’m not dressed.” They told me that was okay, still wanting to come in! My next excuse worked. I accepted their literature politely and they left.

When I lived there, 16 years, we were generally nude, except when someone came over and then we dressed, but then again depending on the guest. Once or twice, with the screen door open (Tucson Heat, with capital H) we got surprised by delivery, or someone, as we passed through the hallway, before the bell rang. Our good friends, depending on first wife or second one, generally had been cavorting nude at one time or another with us. We had a jaccuzzi and more often than not, people tended to lose their clothing while partying at our house. So, if we felt like it, we didn’t dress, inviting them in. If we were involved in a project, like say painting, that required nudity, we sucked them into the process with us, offering beer.

Sometimes, my very attractive second-ex being naked would be taken the wrong way. It might be seen as an invitation. Horns grew, and so perceptions changed and explanations had to be put out to curb things. Sometimes, she would enjoy the exposure and bring those problems  on, too. My point being that one might find themselves in a hassle at times, just because people from the outside come into the nude domain with their ignorance. Nude is equated with sex. That door to our naturist cages is a very important boundary from both sides.

By law here, opening ones door and exposing the nude body to strangers is akin to a flasher opening up a trench coat. If I’m outside in my yard and someone comes by dis-covering me, I have some reasonable expectation of privacy.
I have been caught naked in my home by unannounced people a few times in the last 15 or twenty years out here. I have no window shades and a glass window on my front door. It is just that private and liberated here. People don’t usually look into windows, they are polite. They may look through the door when standing there and I have to walk across the view to get a cover, but it is obscure through that door during the day. At night, they are in the dark and we are in view, nothing for hiding, but these are not likely strangers. If it was a stranger at night, I’d be getting a pistol before answering the door.

At DF’s place in town, she rarely gets strangers, there is a no trespassing sign and she is down a driveway a bit. The enforced screen door is all that there is. No one has ever surprised us there. Everyone calls first, for some reason. If we are home we are nude. Well, there was a friend who came by on a bicycle once, but he saw me out front watering and yelled, “Don’t get dressed on my account.” We didn’t, we spend lots of nude time with him at our local sweat.

I answered "No, I'm often naked, but I cover up for visitors and strangers who come to my door." My wife works at home as a hairdresser and so has a fairly regular stream of customers coming to the house. Given thatI don't wish to put them off, I will always be dressed if I am anywhere near the front door or Carole's work room when she has or expects a client.

Have fun,

Ian.

None of the four options in the poll really applies to me - the closest is the second option.

I have a sign on my door advising callers that I am a naturist and may come to the door naked. I then give an option to ring an alternative bell bush if this concerns them. I am delighted to say that 7-8 out of every ten callers do not seem concerned. I usually just fasten a short towelling wrap around my waist for those who do claim to be concerned.

I like that solution.

It's also interesting that the number of non-concerned visitors is that high.

What is the general makeup of your community, and do you think it has anything to do with the lack of concern by an apparent majority of folks visiting your home?

Fascinating idea! I have the big picture window and the glass in the upper of the front door, so I have been trapped in the kitchen of the great room, or have a wrap in another part of the house which requires me to walk from the couch area across the doors view to get it. People seem to realize that they may be intruding and don't stare into the window. One neighbor opened the door and yelled for me one day when I had the music on loud, so I was nailed, but she didn't mind. She'd been around me nude before.

I don't have a door bell, they knock and I'm aware in the quiet solitude of visitors. With two and a half foot thick walls, I don't hear much outside, however. If I ever finish the wall/gate structure out front and put in the planned doorbell, I will certainly have this in mind.

"A man's home is his castle" may be the thinking of the outsiders, but still your statistic is amazing. Like Eyesup, I'd like to know more about the situation. I'd also like to know a guess-tament as to how many people that was, over years.

I have tried several times to make sense of who rings which bell, but without a lot of success. I don't have a lot of callers, and most of those who do come to the door are not local residents - the likes of Royal Mail, delivery couriers, sales people and so on. The couriers include a significant proportion of ladies, most of whom have been more than happy to ring the 'nude' bell. Interestingly, one company has just employed a young male courier - who steadfastly rings the 'prude' bell! Doesn't make sense to me. On a couple of occasions, sales callers have been disappointed that I was NOT naked when I came to the door - I had just come in and had not yet discarded my clothing. It is not unusual to be asked if the caller can photograph the sign.

Number of callers? Some weeks, none at all, other weeks up to 10 or so.

Just to clarify - I don't have two separate bells. There is one bell with two push buttons, each of which can be set to produce a different sound. They are intended for premises with two or more access doors, or perhaps a main door and a delivery point. The sign is home made, and I have been asked to produce a similar one for other people on a couple of occasions.

“Number of callers? Some weeks, none at all, other weeks up to 10 or so.”
“I am delighted to say that 7-8 out of every ten callers do not seem concerned.”

Putting these together and considering repeat delivery people, that still makes hundreds of different people over, I don’t know how much time, visits in which you didn’t need to get dressed and you greeted happily nude at your door. That’s a lot of encounters. Of each one hundred, 70 or eighty went for the nude, having no problem, or even liking the idea, or curious. Twenty or thirty chose not to, but this doesn’t mean objected, potentially offended. Many would not want the hassle of something unusual, or had trust issues. A very stiff minority would be the abnormal group, so why are there laws to protect people from nudity, if the vast majority actually likes the idea?

The matrix, the illusion is fading.

How many hundred, might you think?

It seems to some extent the more people I have been open to about nudity the more eye opening it has become. Once you get past the religious fanatics and the "save the children" contingent it seems that most people, although not partakers, are at least open to the idea. It's much like politicians using skewed figures to prove their point such as "a majority of Christians" with out even asking just assuming. Just with the small sample provided that is a 70-80% approval rate to me. Maybe I need to rewire my front door as the front chimes while the side simply rings and do my own research. Most times though the delivery people only ring the bell then leave the package at the door. In fact I'm sitting here thinking the last time there was any type of solicitation at our front door was the last election cycle.
