Stop complaining and start a revolution. But remember, all revolutions, successful or unsuccessful, increase the power of government. But if you think government is bad, I hope you don't belong to a homeowner's association.

It has been said many times that the last person you want in a police force is somebody who would apply for the job.

That's like saying that the person a bank would prefer to loan money to is someone who doesn't need a loan.

Arf, arf Thanks for the bone!!!

"Police Constable Jackie Kearle, of Dorset Police, said: “We are investigating this incident to establish what, if any, offences were committed." So, the facts are there. Healthy guy with a nice tan, is walking with a backpack. Oh, yea, no excess clothing. What was his motive? Police fnd that he was doing nothing harmful, investigation closed...

...or not.

I wonder if these police got the word that a man walking with only a hat is not a police matter?

Police quickly will get tired of wasting time on this kind of frivolous reports.

I would say the police had done their duty and responded to a report from a member of the public. No searches wit dogs and helicopters, no manhunts or hysteria. The information they have on him (local, easily identifiable can) they could find him no problem if they wanted. All they’ve done is ask, in stilted police language, if anyone else saw him and if so was he doing anything worse than going for a walk. A few paragraphs on the police website is not really a waste of police time ...

just out of curiosity i looked at avon and somerset police site , looked through the appeals back to august, nothing similar, so it seems nobody has taken any notice of any of my walks.

did find an attack with exposives on a local atm and several local rta's some fatal that i knew nothing about.

True.  I also noticed that the police didn't rush out to apprehend the naked man despite having more than one report.    Its not said but the police phone person probably asked citizen callers if they had observed the man doing anything other than enjoying his walk.   That question and lack of rushing out to apprehend a naked man walking will serve to discourage future reports.

And here we have a naked man out for frequent naked walks in avon and somerset without causing even a notice in the police report. Being out and about naked is becoming ordinary enough for either 1. nobody in avon or somerset bothers to call police, or 2. police don't bother listing such reports on their journals.

The nude restaurant in Paris, O'natural, is closing, alas. Not enough business. Apparently the market was smaller than hoped for (usually is) but one comment was that the experience was artificial. The article about it appeared in the food section of today's Washington Post, although there was no mention of food. There's still time, though. The last day of business will be February 16.

Their duty would have been done if after questioning the woman on the phone, they had informed her that simple nudity is not an offence, and left it at that. That is what the CoP guidelines say. What they have done is re-inforce the attitude that there must be something, even if they are no longer sure what!

Interesting that since then, a woman rode naked on a horse through a nearby town doing the Lady Godiva bit for charity. The local newspaper which reported the first incident including the police appeal published a brief drive-by video with an extract of the CoP, clarifying that simple nudity is not illiegal, effectively correcting the erroneous impression given by the earlier report of the unidentified walker.

However, the police appeal for information is still there, despite someone having drawn their attention to the guidelines....

The real question is, who gets to say if it's 'simple nudity?' A simpleton?

Our knowledge of the event and the official reaction is based on a brief report on the police website, subsequently copied by the local paper. We don’t know what’s been left out or why the bits that were included were left in. Since there was no manhunt perhaps we could give the Thin Blue Line the benefit of the doubt instead of getting outraged for the sake of it. For all we know there may have been dozens of instances when they told callers there was nothing illegal about naked hikers and these calls weren’t written into the website log.

Possible, but I'd think unlikely that there have been dozens of calls about nude people. How big of a community is this one? The call for information is a partial manhunt.

It is good news to read that the CoP is out here and being used to stop injustice.
