Free ranger with dog

http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/naked-man-dog-spotted-repeatedly-Cambridge-road/story-27515474-detail/story.html

As a university town Cambridge has generally been one of those places more tolerant towards nudity. Seems this chap has been happily going about his business properly attired and no one has been offended (until now?). Jolly good show!

As the man in question is being totally discreet, surely it is the person who posted the video who if likely to be causing alarm and distress.

Maybe the person that posted the video should be held to account as causing distress since no one had issues until the video went up.

Actually, I found that this causes alarm and distress:
"In the absence of any sexual context and in relation to nudity where the person has no intention to cause alarm or distress it will normally be appropriate to take no action unless members of the public were actually caused harassment, alarm or distress."

It reminds me of a recent ruling by our own Supreme Court. A law that means one thing in one place but something else in another, isn't really a law. It's more of a suggestion. It needs to end between the words "action" and "unless".

The second part allows the government to step in and codify morality. That is distressing.

I see that the camera has a strong zoom-lense. They fellow is way down by that tree on the left. He was very small to the naked eye and getting dressed to be cautious. The person with the camera looks to be invading the fellows privacy, going out of his way to take a shot. What's more, there are no genitals showing. The fellow has a reasonable expectation of privacy and the cameraman has violated that and to top it off posted his voyeurism on Youtube in a possibly malicious manner.

Our fellow should be offended. If there would have been a face, the cameraman could have been arrested by Arizona law.

Checking youtube, the same quack has posted a video of the guys dog's butt, too. It IS malicious.

It may be stalking. There's a weird voyeur in Cambridge that is offending and alarming me! I'm freaking out! How can I let this go and do nothing? What about my civic duty? Should I call the authorities to protect the poor dear "old" man from this abuse?

yes, the guy was a long way off and filmed with a big telephoto lens.   He is only seen from the back while putting on pants.  I would say his privacy was invaded.  I posted a comment.

Two positives I took from the piece were that the conservationists knew the naturist and didn't care, and the police were apparently told a year ago and did nothing. On the down side it seems they may now feel "something must be done" because it's been in the local paper.

I might try to find this place and go for a walk myself when I get a chance.
It can't be that far from where I sometimes walk.
It would be nice to meet the guy and walk together.
His dog looks friendly enough.

On the up side, hardly anyone is making negative comments on the newspaper's comment page.

The local people are now all aware that the area has had at least one naked rambler for some time without him causing any problems, and thus naked rambling becomes more normal in the community.

It teaches the guy that nothing horrible will happen when his bare bum is seen, photographed, and distributed.

It also teaches people that the police have better things to do than to go find a naked rambler.

That's the spirit, Yeldew. Show some support from the community. You might even be able to spot the ornery cuss that posted the video.

Out on a dirt road and a wooded area? How is this a problem?

Bob, spotted your post, but not Jbee's. As one said, it wasn't even on the police's radar (figurative type) and now they have to do something. Occasionally someone in our neighborhood will have a party in their house and yard that is noisy.

We choose to not get irritated because the majority of them quiet down or finish up by 10 or 11 pm.
It's part of being in a neighborhood.

I agree that the youtube post it is just being vindictive.

The problem is the one person who complained about it! I remember my days as a firefighter/paramedic when the police scanner was on 24/7 just in case something would happen and I never recall a dispatch for anyone being naked. In act since those years are gone the last police call I could find was over three years ago and it turned out to be of no consequence. In this case the powers that be were embarrassed by the poster. Now to save face their hand was forced into doing something. I doubt that the poster would even bother to read the comments at the end of the article, he has done his good deed in his eyes and now the community is safe from a naked body. My question, would he have taken the same trouble if it were a naked woman walking her dog?

Nudewalker, that is a very interesting point. Jus' thinkin'... It is wise to think like our adversary and the audience. What would he have done. What would she have done? He would have creeped her out. He would have been raping her in many eyes. I'm reminded of the recent movie "Wild" where she is creeped by a voyeur in the wild. The voyeur aspect would have been more evident, as women are thought to be needing protection in their privacy. This guy's kind of personality would likely be conflicted seeing a woman at her best and covering up. He might turn away, averting his eyes to be polite. Maybe the poor sap could use some pity to a degree. He is very sick, twisted and confused. It is too bad that his discomfort is turned into aggressive acts, violating people's privacy...

...anyway, I still tend to feel that he needs a good tight slap. Maybe across his bare bottom ;D

I didn't read anything in the article that the police were going to do anything.  They were interviewed by the reporter and said something vague about looking into it, but that's a long way from actually wasting public time going out looking for a naked rambler.   Looking into it may mean that they reviews local laws and didn't see any being broken because nobody was being harmed, so they continue to ignore common behavior.

We will need to watch for further events but nothing seems to have happened yet.

Bob,
You haven't filled in your profile yet, but I seem to recall that you are from the other side of the puddle.
I agree with you about "looking into it" meaning that they are actually not going to do anything and this is reinforced by the fact that, at present, there are no local laws of the type you know in the UK.

Unfortunately, the present government wants to allow local authorities to be able to prohibit any type of behaviour that their prejudices don't like (but please don't get me started any further on this subject).

Spokane WA if my memory serves - eh Bob?

A couple of observations from the naked dog walker
Wow, what a great telephoto zoom lens!  Remarkable clarity and steadiness.  Pity the owner couldn't do some good with it rather than persecuting peaceable gentlemen walking their pooches.  Photographing tits would be much better... and larks, wrens, thrushes and kestrels.
I do hope nothing comes of it - poor man had chosen a pretty deserted and discreet place to roam.  He was hardly streaking down the high street.
Looking at the man, his skin looked fairly brown and if it was there were no tan lines, suggesting he's a long term dyed-in-the-wool naturist.

John

PS later edit: Sorry, I read the article properly - so yes, he's a naturist and no, the path is not so deserted.
