Spur of the Moment "Truly Naked" Hike
« on: August 07, 2015, 09:51:05 PM »
I woke up a little before 5:00 am this morning & had a couple cups of coffee and browsed on the internet while my wife & son were getting ready for work. A while after they were gone for the day, I got the urge to go for another "truly naked" walk in the woods.

I grabbed my camera & went out the back door with nothing on but my camera strap. It was kind of a foggy morning, so I figured that would work in my favor for getting across the road without being seen. Going down thru the woods to the power line, I headed for the road. After checking to make sure no one was out & around to see me and listening to make sure there was no vehicle traffic coming, i crossed the road and quickly went down the bank on the other side & out of sight from traffic.

Now, i could relax & enjoy the walk. I hunt this piece of land, so I was hoping to bump into some wildlife during my hike.  There is a place that, sometimes I have my wife drop me off near the other end of the property when I want to hunt back toward home and my goal for this walk was to get there & then back home making a big loop. It was a beautiful morning to do this. The fog lifted quickly & it was cool enough that I didn't get too heated up, but I was very comfortable, even if I stopped for periods of time to enjoy nature.

Well, I made it to the other end without seeing any wildlife other than one grey squirrel. I did see what I think was a couple piles of bear poo. Once there, I wanted to get right up to the road & touch the guard rail before turning back toward home. This road is not very busy & I didn't even see or hear any vehicles while I was near it. I touched the guard rail & back tracked back down the trail I had walked up. a couple hundred yards back, i split off from the trail i came in on & kept heading down the hill.

Toward the bottom of the hill, I turned back the direction of home but wasn't going to go straight there. I worked down along a creek & up to an old log road. There were a couple deer on the log road. I turned out to be a momma & her fawn. Momma disappeared from sight, but the fawn stood on the log road long enough for me to get a few pictures. I was planning to go in the direction of where the deer were anyway, so after getting the pic's, I walked straight toward the fawn. I didn't stick around very long & I just continued along my way.

As late in the day as it was getting, the road I live on had enough traffic that I needed to really be careful getting back across it. I wanted to cross the road a couple hundred yards further up where I would be able to do it more inconspicuously. Crossing there, though would require crossing yet another road to get back home, but that road is far less busy. After crossing the second road, it was an easy walk thru the woods back to my back yard & I was home.

This walk ended up being about 2.5 miles..... & I didn't even take anything along to cover up with. Nothing even for my feet!
That's the longest "truly naked" walk I've done now.

I do have a few observations. First, it's much easier to walk in the woods where the ground is covered with leaves than it is to walk on a dirt/stone road. Next, these kind of walks are best done before the temperature rises enough for the bugs & flies to come out. They were starting to be out by the time I got back home. It was almost 10:30 am when I got back. Finally, once you're in the woods, away from civilization you really get to relax & enjoy God's creations. I think that I enjoyed this walk thru those woods more than any other walk in a very long time..... if not, ever!

One footnote though; My feet do have a few bruised spots. I hope to get them more toughened up in the future.

Edit;  My left foot kept getting more & more painful to walk on, so I got checking it & found a piece of thorn about 1/4" long sticking straight in. After I removed it, the pain while walking started to go away pretty quick.

There must be something to the early morning which beckons one to hike truly naked! My first and not last was earlier this spring where a variety of circumstances had me wide awake before sunrise. From that point away I went with nothing but a wedding band and a cell phone (at the wife's insistence) for a nice stroll and even a quick dip in the lake where we were camping.

The fog brought back some memories; another morning hike where the fog not only provided cover but gave the trail a surreal feeling. Any other time it would be horror movie stuff but naked in the woods it was more of a spiritual experience.

Great report.  Whereabouts was your hike, HairlessNude? (Have you got a forename?  How about Harry?)
I gather from your prose style that you are in the US.  Am I correct?  If so whereabouts?

When I lived in Houston, we would occasionally have fog. Depending on how dense, a it would deaden sound all around. I can imagine how special and different that could be.

Thanks for the write-up.

I did end up with a couple pretty sore feet for a couple days, but that's over now.

My general location is in my profile.

We don't get much fog here in the dry desert. It is a treat for me. I have not been in a thick morning fog while nude. Clouds briefly on mountains and humidity, but nothing like the morning fog that I knew back east when younger. Any fog has been a cold one and something that I need to drive through for work, travel or something. I experienced some fog on nude beaches south of San Francisco maybe 35 of 40 years ago.

I suspect that there is an incredible sensual all over the body experience when nude in the fog. I have enjoyed the sense of mystery, or solitude in fog. There is a curtain created by it, insulating, yet always I'd look out, no listen for a hidden surprise popping out of the mist. I was able to wander through a cold fog along a golf course path, twenty years ago up in Pinetop, Arizona.

Could you people who know more of fog elaborate about the experience nude? Stuart wrote some of it in his Zombie book, those isles are famous for it, Louisiana and the south have a warmer version, and the east Atlantic coast also has a warn seasonal version.

I found an old naked fog hike report on another forum from June 1, 2012.

"Seems like I haven't posted in ages but I've still been hanging around.  We took the camper to a park about an hour away for some much needed rest and relaxation. Since they owe me so much compensation time work has only been two or three days a week so I have been doing a longer commute to enjoy nature. That is except for the Memorial Day weekend the area has been deserted; the only other times are sometime populated with walkers and park employees. Funny thing about people being creatures of habit; the walkers were between nine and ten in the morning, the work crew on cleanup just after lunch at twelve thirty! So planning naked time at the campsite was easy.

So in light of the topic and keeping with the theme I once awoke at seven or so in the morning and was drinking my coffee outside admiring the surreal vision of the woods engulfed in fog. So remembering the fog thread it was hiking boots, socks and trusty Camelback and away I go! Since it was early I decided that a net was not necessary and a route was planned that would take me from the campground, connect with trails in the park and return. If all went right my return to the campground would be after the walkers had departed and before the clean up crew came there. The coolness of the morning soon became an ally as if it were warmer the humidity would have been a killer. The hike through the campground was uneventful but strange to be hiking on the roads in daytime. The same roads have been walked naked at night as I've taken many strolls to the bathhouse over the years and once to the water source after arriving late. There was plenty of light to see my way but only could see about twenty five yards ahead. It was fine as when I made any road crossings headlights were visible long before the vehicle arrived. Once arriving at a picnic area on the other side of the park an enjoyable snack of fruit and granola bars was had in the pavilion before starting the return trip. The silence was only broken by the birds doing their morning songs and the cell phone as Mrs. Walker was checking on my progress.

I took a slight detour on the return trip past the small lake that provides some fishing for the locals. Voices could be heard from across the water but the fog was still so dense that I still could not be seen. Two rather long climbs still were ahead of me as slowed my pace somewhat and it concerned me that as the fog lifted maybe the walkers had delayed their trek and I would meet them as I approached the campground. By this time it had warmed up quite a bit and the last climb up to the campground left me covered in sweat! It was close to noon as I returned so a quick trip into the bath house and a shower brought me back to normal. An easy stroll to the camper and lunch followed; the shorts went on when the rattle of the clean up crews diesel engine pierced the relative quiet of the woods."

As I remember it was that quiet time between Memorial Day and the final days of school plus the local students there were delayed due to the fog making travel dangerous. I have been in the fog a few other times but not quite as dense as this one. One other thing if memory serves me right was that the pace was slow as it seemed that one could walk faster than you could see ahead.

When I frequented the big barn on the hill (YEARS ago), I had occasional opportunity to walk naked in the fog through open pastures in the dark and in broad daylight, pastures that were otherwise quite exposed to a busy country highway.  I enjoyed the quiet deafness, the freedom to be visually screened (as usually we need the darkness), and the micro drops that would coalesce on my chest hair ... my body would be dry until I rubbed my chest and then I would be soaking wet!  It's a weird sensation ...

I had fun walking in the fog, naked!

2.5 miles away from any clothing or potential cover is 'truly liberating!'  Congratulations, Hairlessnude!

The fog brought back some memories . . . but naked in the woods it was more of a spiritual experience.

Since shortly after discovering my tendency to hike naturally I have always had a lifting of my spirit afterward. Other times it occurs while I am hiking, which adds to the experience. The fog would be the further enhancement of the sense of privacy and seclusion during a special and quite personal moment.

Like being out in the middle of a wood while it's snowing, but without the cold.
