The one time that I went to Havarock with clothed people, the javalina bolted. They acted as the way that they acted when I first began to hangout around them. The difference was the clothes. We were up wind. Javalinas are generally nearly blind. They hear and smell well. They are smart, skittish.

For an animal with a good nose, human clothing must get pretty stinky fairly quickly.  Sweat, pheromones, excretions, etc., plus the smell of laundry sheets and anything else someone has rubbed against.  People get used to the smell, but to an animal with a powerful nose who isn't blinded by constant exposure it must be overwhelmingly bad.

Bob - that seems like a logical explanation of the phenomenon which I have observed that I can get much closer to wild animals when naked that I can when clothed.

Sounds reasonable, I can get closer when I'm upwind. Animals often treat humans differently, if they live in a more pristine spot, unfamiliar with human intervention. What's a human? It smells weird, looks unnatural, makes strange loud noises, marks territory aggressively, killed uncle Fred, breaks stuff and disturbs the harmony of the locals, makes not so loud strange noises, it's big, best to just stay away.

On the other side, many deer have been moving into towns where people provide them with gardens full of tasty bushes to eat and hunting isn't allowed.   Maybe that isn't a problem in Arizona.

Bob, the 1st time I ever saw elk up close I was amazed at how large they are. I agree with you about being charged by one. Between their size and headgear I doubt the outcome would be favorable.

I startled a bighorn out of his hideout once. I was surprised that I got that close without him hearing me. We scared each other I think.

He ran off about 40 ft. and stopped to look at me and didn't move again until I raised my camera to get a picture. As I was naked I wondered if he was trying to figure out what it was he was seeing.

They are also fast!

Deer have become quite the issue in our little community. Not only the destruction of ornamental trees and shrubs but vehicle collisions add up to many insurance claims. They have allowed limited bow hunting with limited success; the  prevailing theory is that the deer were smart enough to move here to avoid being hunted not that there is  a plentiful food supply with no predators.

All one has to do is search Cabalas.com under hunting then look for scents and scent remover to see the 187 products that those textile hunters use to hide their scents. As both Bob and John pointed out soaps, dryer sheets and even waterproof chemicals are foreign smells to the wildlife therefore a danger. I was able to hunt on a private farm carrying a .22 rifle and a game bag. Either it was a lucky day or there is an advantage to hunting naked but we managed to get our limit of small game (squirrel and rabbit). So we managed to share some excellent stew meat for the freezer. I really wanted to return for deer season and hunt with a bow but that never came to be. The same farm now is home to a gas fracking well so those days are gone.

I remember back in the 70's and 80's there was a deer population explosion in the midwest. A drop in the deer numbers resulted in the hunting being severely restricted for a few years. When the hunting slowed the deer became less cautious.

Corn and wheat farmers in particular began to notice that the deer were coming into their fields and chowing down. After the numbers began to climb, the restrictions were lifted.

Had birthday the last week. Thursday, I was up Romero Canyon being natural, had diner and then home. Friday, was a cleanup day, collecting band equipment for the Saturday night party. During this time, I was definitely recovering from the strenuous hike Thursday.

We had a birthday party at DF's place in town Saturday night. We took a few days to get it arranged, naked. We had our hands full clearing up the backyard, setting up tables and chairs getting a fire pit ready, cleaning house and cooking. As I was sweeping and hosing, the maintenance guy drove up the drive, surprising me. He needed something from the shed next-door. I figured that I was caught, as I scurried into the doorway. I slipped into shorts to continue. He smiled and waved as he drove off. So, off with the pants.

We had a great party, everyone was dressed in the evening air. Some fun musicians showed up and jammed.

The next day our friend Baylee stopped back. She had been one of the later revelers. She had left her cell phone, sarong and coat. DF was still asleep in bed from the late night. I didn't need to get dressed on her account. We sat and talked on the love seat, and then decided to get an omelet together. She chopped veggies in her sundress, as I got the rest ready, comfortably nude. DF joined us straight from bed, but soon fell back to sleep, while we sat and looked over my website and some pics.

That afternoon, we were cleaning up, tearing down, taking trash out sweeping, still nude, mostly. DF was out front in the carport with the broom. A table cloth had blown off and put food crumbs everywhere, which was attracting ants. It is nice warm weather that we are having. The neighbor with a window to this area  next door was gone.

Down the drive, there is a new neighbor in the duplex in front of the drive by the street. The one who would sit outside and smoke all the time has been replaced by a woman that is getting divorced. Apparently this week, she has gotten back with her husband. He is a porch sitter also. DF carried a load of trash to the recycling can, which was in that porch sitter’s view. A brief moment, but she didn't look first. She then reported that she thought that the husband saw her. Later, as we took the trash, etc. out to the street, dressed in shorts and sundress, he said hello and commented on the party. We asked about the noise and the wife's invitation, which his wife hadn't given him. Seems that all is well, and we are either more curious cool party people, or the nekkid chick next door. I don't know, maybe both.

Les stopped by unexpectedly to collect the hat that he had left. He lives relatively close and walked over. I was getting out of the shower, as DF told me, "Les is here." No bother to dress. I sat on the couch and we talked of life. DF took a turn in the shower. She emerged with the towel wrapping her hair. No worries, with Les either. She went on to say hello, heat the soup that I had made and Les decided to hang out for dinner and a movie. I didn't want clothes, the weather is wonderful. For example, the whole party, the doors were wide open and no pesky bugs to bother us! Les removed his shirt; DF went from dressing shirt-robe, to nude as she pleased, until bed.

So, other than the party, at which I was too busy being festive, greeting dear friends, and playing music, I didn’t even think of clothing. I didn’t even notice it. I was dressed at the restaurant. The rest of the four day celebration of the mile marker, I was properly attired in a birthday suit. It is good to be accepted by friends without off color trips. It is good to be free and comfortable.

Happy birthday, Jbee!

Sounds like a perfect weekend b'day celebration. Friends, family showing up for the fun all with little to no clothing involved.

At least the new neighbor didn't have a negative reaction. That's a plus.

The danger to my shoulders and my nose is the most frequently seen malady. Not much damage from all of the other activities. Door handles and hot asphalt, or cement, but I wear shoes for that...when necessary.

I get scratches on my forearms and lower legs, but that can be had in shorts and short sleeves, and that usually happens whens I'm dressed, which is a time of overconfidence, and less awareness. There is something to this, or my misperception. I'm not certain, as it just occurred to me, but I rarely get banged up when nude.

That is a known phenomenon, known as risk compensation, which works both ways. For example, cyclists wearing helmets tend to ride more agressively.

One statistical verification of it occurred in the '60s when Volvos had a reputation of being a much safer car to drive because of their superior body cage strength. Insurance companies found that Volvo drivers had a tendency to be involved in a significantly higher number of accidents than would be expected for that driver profile.
