What an amazing evening, Lisa.  Sensing our connection to the primal in this way must have been awesome!

Isn't it just awesome to "be" in these micro eternal moments John?  In all of our reports I see this common theme of connectivity to the earth spaces and sky, and weather...and animals, and sense of timelessness, and need for refreshment in spirit by getting back to nature naturally.  It's just in our design.  How blessed we are to be able to respond to the littlest nuances of change in our respective environments, to be able to see what most never know exists.  You have to take time, be still, be attentive, be receptive, be respectful.
"You have to take time, be still, be attentive, be receptive, be respectful."
Sounds like the necessity and blessing of wandering naked.

I was staying up late listening to this radio astronomy link watching the deep black night and punched out by star holes, with sparks from the fire stirred upwards every few minutes by night wind.
What band? AM/FM/SW/Internet? Sounds interesting.

It was a very ancient feeling, listening to deep space while at the same time experiencing the wind, and the heat and sound and smell of the fire. . . . The wind was almost sentient like it was speaking in conversation with the other elements.  I was just in awe . . .  .  Very peaceful but attentive and alert at the same time.
I have experienced this too. It can happen anywhere but it seems to occur more frequently away from all the noise of large campgrounds. Without the wind you can hear all the night critters carrying on.

Quote
Whoosh from the wind in the high boughs of the trees, stirred branches against a black night sky, coyotes calling out quite nearby, crackling heat from fire to take the edge off the chill.  It will be a special memory.
This is what we love about camping. Especially in wooded and/or mountainous areas. The wind generated by mountains makes all sorts of noises. When it blows through a valley and moans around the cliffs and crevasses. Or when it blows through the stands of pine and aspen you hear that whooshing sound you described.

The hills and the trees talking back and forth. We try to make sure to have a fire and spend the evening staring up at the sky, late until it just burns down to glowing, smoldering embers that resemble those H alpha photos of the sun.

Even laying in a sleeping bag with the wind racking the tent back and forth is better than a crowded camping area.

Thanks for that. I read that one before, this time though it conjured up great memories.

It's that time of year again Duane. Getting psyched up to go camping?

We have just had the "Super Moon" and while it would have been inviting to go on a nude hike with the light most night time temperatures here hovered near 40F  (5C). Had it been earlier in the fall it would have been quite tempting as full moon hikes in the summer are rewarding. My usual pathways for FRN are still available as the leaves are still clinging to the trees in the lower elevations. In fact last Friday's walk put me in a bit of a bind as I only wore my running kilt and a light shirt to the trailhead. As has been the case for over the last month no one was there so I left my belongings in the vehicle and walked off into the woods  as usual. our daytime temperatures have hovered around the the mid 50's F (Just over 10C) so once I'm moving comfort is not a problem. This particular walk is a mile away from the car and follows a stream between two stands of timber, so even if there is a wind there is shelter from it. One thing there is no shelter from however was a sudden rainstorm. When I left the house there was no indication that there would be any rain so the sudden downpour caught me with my pants down, or off, so to speak. As I still had about three quarters of a mile to return at that point there became an awareness of the sudden drop in the air temperature plus the body. I also understand the idea of hypothermia as this condition had been dealt with over the years as a medic. Once the vehicle had been reached the question became, do I use the clothes I had worn to dry off and risk the drive home naked or  get the car started and hope the heat from the vehicle dries me off? I chose the ladder, sitting on the running kilt and having the engine do it's thing. Then I just slipped on the shirt to drive home.

My 4x4 isn't that high off the ground but driving home naked is the way to go.

Sounds like a really fun night out, except the cold rain.

I had the same idea nudewalker. I can catch it again this close in 18 years.

As it was on a Sunday evening and my wife was leaving town on business on Monday it just wasn't the best of timing. We also are hitting the low 50's here but because of the heat island effect, the temps here in the city are usually 5-10 degrees warmer than the open desert.

I've been hiking in the cold too but there is no warmth from the sun to help out late at night. Maybe I'll try that as an experiment.

I'm about to publish our trip report in Mexico with that huge orb. That super moon had the tide raising 23 feet. It came over the dunes at about sunset, huge huge! As it sat before sunset, it woke me up each night, and was again spectacular at sunrise as it was setting. DF and I took a wonderful walk down the beach. I took a T and sweat jacket and took it off, but it became a hassle to carry. DF, as a lightweight Zoney, went a tad more bundled up. I don't think she could believe the November temps.

JMF has been at it. He participated in a nude telescope party. Not the telescpope.

http://www.randonnues.fr/?p=4145

Translation:
Enry, high Savoyard passionate of astronomy proposed an evening of discovery of the sky. Nocturne and naturist. How to resist such an invitation.
The place of rendezvous is at the end of a road in the forest of Corsuet, above Aix les Bains. With Philippe and Patricia, we are three Grenoble, Guillaume comes from Albertville.
A large sloping field, close to the parking lot, offers a view of Lake Bourget. And an opening on the sky without vegetation cover. It is still day. Henry sets up his telescope on its support. Philippe also brought an astronomical telescope. These tools require some adjustments before they are used. It is more practical to do so as long as there is light. Little by little the darkness comes. A first star! No, it's a planet: Saturn. The telescope discerns its rings, even its satellites. Then Henry directs his camera to other corners of the celestial vault in search of stars, clusters of stars. To avoid disturbing the vision we use only the red light of the frontals. Occasionally benches of clouds temporarily remove portions of the sky. The moon, a full moon resplendent, has risen. But its luminosity now prevents observing the deep sky. Too bad, we direct the glasses towards her to admire its shiny surface.
The time has passed. It is near midnight and the temperature is always gentle, 22 °. Because of the moon, it was perhaps not the ideal evening for astronomy, for naturism, though.
