Hey, Nudeed is almost an anagram of Nenude, but not really.

There are a few nude beaches in Vermont , but that gets us off this group's main topic. Every year there's a group hike on "Nude Hiking Day", June 21 or an adjacent day, on the Long Trail. As Nudeed says, that happens in the Danby area, and a swim is a possibility there too. Should we be shy about mentioning the name of the pond? It's a favorite spot for skinny-dipping, but not exactly a nude beach.

As far as I know, there's no place on a trail in Vermont that's more nude-friendly than anywhere else. Nudity's legal all over the state, so you can take your pick. In spite of that, we try to avoid confrontations, and we'll cover up if we get the chance, but we get caught often enough. One good place is the west side of Harriman Reservoir, across from the Ledges, which is easy to reach for a day trip if you come from the south. It's the bed of an old railroad, the Hoosac Tunnel and Wilmington or HT&W, known in its day as the "Hoot, Toot and Whistle". That's section 2 of the Catamount Trail, if you look at their website. And this summer we walked most of section 3 and all of section 4. All excellent strolls!

Edited to say that people claim that Vermont law says it's illegal to "disrobe in public" but not to actually be naked. However, one of our group's Vermont members says that's a myth. I don't know what to believe.

Thanks John.  Not really that far away and it sounds most welcoming.  I "googled" Harriman and found a visitor's site in which one visitor commented that "there was even a nude beach."  That didn't deter them from giving the site a 5 Star rating.  And it didn't say whether or not they participated!!  If they didn't, they probably wanted to!

Do others find, as I do, that while many folks criticize or joke about nudity, they probably would like to try it, but probably lack the courage to participate.  In lieu of that, they laugh or joke.  Seems to be a tell-tale sign. Lot's of "wannabes" out there.
