STATS!
« on: January 03, 2017, 10:38:27 AM »

Good heavens, people, I just discovered the amazing and awesome STATS page on this forum.
http://freerangenaturism.com/forum/index.php?action=stats
Wow, this is one great value forum software, Stuart & Karla!!

You can see who's in the driving seat for post volume (Jbee and Duane) and incredibly heartwarming observations like Dave balead whom we almost never hear from these days is in fact 8th in the list of time spent online.  This means you are keeping up with us, Dave!  Hi and great to know you are still in and around.

Then there's the count by month by postings going back to 2013.  After the TSNS invasion (or rescue) you can now clearly see the annual bell curve of the annual cycle of ebb and flow of topics and posts - less in winter, much more in summer.

Never will I need to do one of those tedious posts where I count up the posts and admire the top posters and berate the backsliders who have not posted so much!  You just have to glance at the STATS page.

I exhort you to have a look!

STATS*?  I love 'em!

Interesting.   Only 139 total members.  What this forum needs is more members.  Perhaps we should post the link in other sites where nudists may happen by.

From what I've seen the number of members has nothing to do with the quality of the posting, or frequency for that matter. Besides with some of those trolls that post elsewhere it may become a nightmare for Karla and Stuart to moderate!

That was fun!

I jus' gotta say, I often get on, then get to doing something else elsewhere, online or offline, and don't get back until later. Consequently, I haven't spent all of that time here, on this forum. Its misleading.

I'm surprised that this forum hasn't really required any moderating yet. I set up a forum about environmental issues once and that was an utter nightmare and a real time sink. As a single moderator you have to defend yourself all the time. I used to be a member of a naturist forum for young people and they had a good system whereby many people helped moderate and they formed a proper community. If it comes to it I would prefer that system.

We're all well-behaved people here. Or maybe there just aren't enough active users to generate any fights!

I think it's more a matter of being polite about our disagreements.

I think the bottom line here is the attitude of the posters. We all aspire to the same thing, that is freedom to be naked and natural, the question becomes the ends to the means. Some of us are more in your face pushing the envelope where others of us still use the stealth developed during the SN days. Those of us in between who try to be out of sight but would not go out of our way to avoid contact. Overall a good group to listen to and learn from plus in these cold months, relive those special moments!

I'm really pleased that Karla is keeping an eye on us and I agree with the drift of what Nudewalker had to say.  I think we should just hang loose.  139 members and about 50 of us posting at all.  We are a nice and erudite group with a specific interest (and wide ranging digressions!).  I'd rather be few and well connected than many and lose the clear identity of the forum content.  As I and others have observed before on several occasions, here and on TSNS, aside from this group and forum, it's very hard to find another naturist site with such a high level of conversation and freedom from the lowest level of inane drivel in its content.

It's quality rather than quantity for me any day.

However, that said, I am not being hypocritical as I have posted before lamenting the glory days of TSNS and the larger quantity of quality we used to generate relative to today.  So I would say we could do with a few more total members, say 200-250, the 30 or so of us that do talk together could rise to say 50 and perhaps if some of our esteemed friends might post a bit more rather than tending to invisible observation - I am prepared to name names :) such as Dave balead, nib, yorksmark, Paul Midnightrider, Tony nudeytony, Norman yeldew and a slew of others longer gone...tanman, hymie, alf, for instance, then the conversation might be even richer and more diverse.

Looking at the main FRN site, one STAT that I find disappointing is that Stuart & Karla haven't posted a Munro or a skinny dip, a Heathland walk or a foreign adventure for several years (3 or 4).  Not only are these two distinguished as being our kind hosts here in the forum but I can't think of many people who are (were?) such wonderful, inspirational exemplars of secret naturism and naturism in nature as they are.  That's why it was good to hear from Karla earlier.

Oh dear! My name in print and my PC just packed up so that I can't easily reply to defend myself. This tablet thing is not for me.  I learnt so much from the original SN forum.  And am eternally grateful to everyone for that.  I just do not get time to post much, even though I try to look in most days.  More importantly, I don't feel that I have anything worthwhile to post.  When I have replaced my PC I'll make a point of posting all the activities I now enjoy as a result of joining this illustrious group.

i know ive not posted as much in the last couple of years as i used to on sns,  suffice to say that now   the wife and i  have only the younger generations to run round after ,  mil passed on a couple of days ago,   we will be having more free leisure time in the future, so  will  have more worth writing about.

50 out of 139 actually posting is an amazingly high ratio  for a forum where 10% is usually reckoned to be good.
When I referred to politeness in reply I had in mind that our range of opinions on subjects outside FRN cover the full range but we do not allow ourselves to degenerate into irrelevant backbiting over religion or politics, as happens in so many places.

Lies damned lies and statistics! A good book on the subject is "How to lie with statistics" by Darrell Huff. I've read that on forums its typical to follow the 80:20 rule, that 80% of the posts are made by 20% of the members.

With low numbers this forum does well. My guess is that if I asked 1000 naturists if they knew this site existed the number that replied that they did would be very small indeed.

It wasn't the intention. We were planning on hitting the highlands again in 2015 but things didn't go according to plan. In fact one disaster led to another, only to be rectified in time for winter. But we're now planning on hitting the hills in spring of 2017. We still actually have a few old updates that we haven't processed or uploaded yet. I'll need to buy a new copy of Photoshop before I process those though.

But such is life.

Aha!  Flushed you out of the woodwork there, Karla!

You know, after some years of looking occasionally at your & Stuart's exploits on the two websites and admitted to myself that whatever my own naturist exploits past or future, I am unlikely to scale the heights that you two have in terms either of altitude or naturism.  So I feel rather privileged to be able to correspond directly with you, which is why it's always nice when you interject in the forum which means you are indeed keeping an eye out and are involved.  I guess others of the FRNs / SNs here will echo that.

However, be that as it may, please excuse my little ploy in referring to your lack of recent trips and please do understand that it was merely a slightly wistful observation and not any sort of criticism.  I do wish you both well and hope you are able to make some more journeys and hope that life does give you the space, calm and opportunity to do that.  I know well, as many do, how the desirable has often to give way to the obligatory, the necessary and the boring.

Keep being there!

John
