EARLY FREEHIKING MEMORIES

However, these were all solo freehikes.  I still feared being with others.

I have that trouble too.   I would enjoy having someone to share my naked adventures with.

First Social Freehike

My first ‘social’ freehike was somewhat traumatic.  I’d followed the posts by a fellow naked Lee for several years.  He often talked about organizing and taking freehikes with others west of Salt Lake City.  As life changed and I got a new job in the Salt Lake City area I was able to attend; it was about time, but I was still frightened.  We arranged to meet at Saltaire, west of Salt Lake City.  Meeting Lee for the first time, he seemed like a normal guy.  No one else showed up, so it was just him and me.  He drove us to the island, an area west of the Great Salt Lake.  Several other vehicles were parked near the area, so it took a few false starts to find a private parking spot.  Then it was time.  He quickly undressed; I followed his example.  We set off and freehiked for about an hour.  The views were great, and it felt spectacular, but I’d already experienced freehiking on my own so knew it would.  The thing that was different was the social interaction.  We both opened up and talked about nearly everything as we hiked along.  We were both naturists who enjoyed hiking naked; it was so refreshing to be able to share with someone who understood.  This was the first of many freehikes we’ve shared through the years, but for me this was definitely the most memorable.

Return to Freehiking

After 29 years of marriage I got divorced.  Then remarried a California girl; I told her I was a naturist up front, but over time she couldn’t accept that and two years later I was single again.  I returned to Northern Utah to stay with my mom.  The first week back I took a freehike in the Wellsville Mountains (my first in two years).  The amazing scenery, beautiful mountain wild flowers, the feel of breeze and sun on my entire body - this was the way life was meant to be.  Why couldn’t others understand?  What a relief from stresses in life!  What a fantastic way for me to understand my grief and loneliness.  What a wonderful blessing!  What a memorable freehke.

I started spending time nude in the woods when I was in Jr. High. It was a special discovery.

But my most memorable would probably be my 1st enforced nude hike. It was completely different than any other because of the lack of any way to cover up. It changed the way I reacted to being in a place I had been to several times.

Safebare, I used to live in Cypress. Right at the 45 and 1960. I moved in out here 1986 and the last time I was there it had all changed. Gee, what a surprise! :)

Ken, I was still hesitant to go on a social naked hike but since I met up with you, Amy, Jbee and DF I'm not worried about that any more. The hikes we did that weekend changed my thinking on that.

Not my most memorable, because I had forgotten all about it until I read this topic, and hardly long enough to be called a hike but I am reminded of an early morning walk through the woods and fields behind a camp site we were staying at on the Kent/Sussex border near Hastings.
I wore only shorts entering the woods and removed them almost immediately, carrying them rolled up in my hand.
Not anything particularly special except that it was probably my first free range naked walk.

Freehiking with a Group of Friends

When I lived in northern Utah, I started a freehiking group.  We went twice a month – once near Salt Lake City, and once further away.  I have many fond memories of these hikes, and meeting naturist friends from all over, but perhaps the most memorable freehike was in Central Utah.  We (men and women) had planned to meet a friend at a camping area called the rocks, because the camping spot was completely surrounded by giant sandstone boulders.  Unfortunately, the road became too rough, so we were forced to stop before finding him.  Instead, we just got out and went for a group freehike around the area.  We walked through some amazing cracks in the sandstone cliffs, took some scenic photos, found giant gypsum crystals, and greatly enjoyed feeling the warm sun and gentle breeze on our naked bodies.  This freehike, which started a little unorganized, turned out to be very memorable.

Birthday Freehike

My most memorable and enjoyable birthday involved a freehike.  My wife at the time planned the event without my knowledge.  On my birthday she invited me to visit a naturist friend’s house.  When we arrived a number of my naturist friends welcomed us and we went for a great freehike.  Then we returned to his house and had cake and icecream – nude of course.  This was the best birthday ever!

First Encounter

Of course I took the normal precautions of nude hiking in less popular areas and of hiking during the week, so I’d hiked for years and not encounter a clothed person.  I’d even lived at several naturist resorts.  In fact, at the time I was living at Shangri La in New River, AZ.  Then one spring weekday three of us from the resort decided to freehike about 10 miles north along the Aqua Fria river.  We arrived, stripped, hiked nude to the river, and enjoyed bolder-hopping along the way.  As always, hiking nude felt wonderful - the full desert sun warming our bodies.  As we rounded one large boulder a voice called out “that looks like a comfortable way to hike”.  An older, clothed couple was resting in the shade of the bolder.  We explained that we lived at a local nudist resort, and hoped our nudity didn’t offend them.  They said “no”.  We asked if any others were hiking in the area.  They said that there was a large group of seniors hiking a short distance ahead as part of a Sun City senior event, and they might be offended.  So we decided to turn around.  Just as we hiked over a high area, we unexpectedly hiked by another older couple and again explained ourselves.  The lady said “that’s okay; we’re from California and aren’t offended by what others do”.  We soon returned to the parking lot where we had to dress.   Of course this freehike was very memorable.

Cute, the way that she identifies with what she perceives as a "California" attitude.

I am glad I now know how to describe my attitude.  :D

Even though I have never lived in California I have visited there on many occasions. But strangely I was possessed of this attitude long before my 1st visit.  ???

How did this happen?  ;)
