Posting Large Pictures

PS. I am looking for techniques that you guys use here to circumvent the photo limitations of the Simple Machines platform which I otherwise really enjoy using.     I am looking for  convenient ways to post modern large photo files here.    Yes, I can and will use my trusted Irfin View to shrink as I have done through the years on similar forums based upon this platform,  but the extra time that it takes to do so is a deterrent when I am in a hurry.    Thanks.

The only way round it is to load the pictures onto a photograph hosting service and link to the picture.
I use Flickr and it automatically produces a selection of picture sizes which you can link to directly.
To include the full definition picture in the post the code is:

[img]url of image[/img]I usually include a thumbnail in the post itself which links to the full definition picture as otherwise it tends to muck up the format of the post itself.
The code for this is:

The BBCode can be inserted using the icons above the text entry panel.
I also use it to link to videos from a frame grab image. For example in this post.

OK, I'm digging up another old thread...

While trying to upload some photos, I ran into this same problem. Like JohnGW, I previously had a pretty extensive paid Flickr account. In fact, I know JohnGW from Flickr. In recent times, Flickr's nudity rules enforcement has gone all over the place, and I finally just got fed up with it and deleted my account.

Now, I'm on MeWe, which is much more nude-friendly. However, it's not accessible without a login. I'm curious if linking a photo there will make it accessible without logging into MeWe. (I'm tech-dumb...I find out stuff by doing it wrong enough times that sometimes I figure it out.) So, here goes my experiment...

It has been my experience that I can't post images/pictures on this site.  I can post links to a picture on another site. 

When it comes to size, the other site often makes the image size into something entirely different from when posted.   For example, I recently posted a relatively small picture to Al-Trails.  I posted a link here for that discussion.  The picture is just nice size on Al-Trails, but on here it comes to my screen so large I have to scroll to see it all.  The huge image shows up on here, but its really called in from another site,  I don't know how to make it show up smaller on this site.

i also once had a fairly large Flickr account.   I don't know if it was the nude images or some copyright (fair use) images that I used in my blog.  For whatever reason Flickr deleted all my pictures about 10 years ago.   I have found other places to post my pictures.   Flickr can go F themselves.

When you download or copy the embed code from the source repository, the function that generates it usually gives you the option of small, medium or large photos.  Here's a screenshot of the relevant embed function from Microsoft One Drive and, adjacent, the same picture embedded in small size.  Other photo repositories I have used e.g. Flickr have a similar function.  Hope that's helpful.

That sounds good.  I wish I could do it.  When I look at images on AlTrails I can right click my mouse and get a menu that says "copy image location."  Then I paste it here in the image function.  It comes our really huge.   I can't find where it can select a size.  Maybe you are copying from a different site, or have a different app.

I don't think we can actually post images on this site.  They have to be posted somewhere else and linked in the text here. The very large image isn't good but  selecting a size is problematic for me. .

I use Zoombrowser. It came with my camera. I can reduce size to any point that I require. Then at under 100 Kb, I can post here. All of the pics on my computer can be seen on it in files. I can also modify, trim, etc.

Yes, Bob, that's how it's done.  Save the photo in a photo system and get the embed code from there which you paste into this site.
But...don't I remember you adding many photos in the past?  Your trip to Alaska for instance.  Or has my memory zoomed the time since you did that expedition?  Was that in TSNS days?  Mind you, the photo embedding procedure was basically the same with that forum.
