Very wise precaution.  An acquaintance of mine got a melanoma on the scalp from not protecting it.  Even though I have a full head of hair I wear a hat such as yours, wide brim, something between a planter's hat and a stetson, purchased in California in 2014 btw.  I never had an American style hat before (in fact never wore hats at all) but was getting a bit overcome in the sun on the head during our holiday.  The hat enormously increased my heat tolerance and comfort in the sun.  I recognise, Bob, that your hat is not just a matter of style but of solid practicality.

Same here.

Anyway, a hat can be a handy thing to have with you if you intend to post pictures on Facebook.

That reminds me of my Geocaching experiences.

Yeah, causing offence of effrontery is difficult to determine since it occurs only in the mind.

How are we to know if it happens and what is someone in offended of affronted when we are dressed?
Does the law still apply? Hmmm!

In my part of the world the INTENT to cause effrontery is the real crime.  Intent is a crime while naked even if nobody was offended or affronted.   Intent is really only in the mind of the accused.   Very bad law.

It is, of course, usually legal to affront someone while clothed, depending on what color they are, or how "triggered" their feelings might be.
