Houston is addicted to the automobile. Bike paths are only recently becoming a reality and roads have no accommodations for bicycles. Drivers view bicyclists as a nuisance. Bicycle - auto accidents occur on a regular basis, The local paper cites at least 23 bicyclists have died in the previous 5 years. The number would be much higher if more people rode bicycles here. Both rides this year were held to honor recent bicyclists' deaths.
So, a major focus of our rides here is to promote more accommodations for bicyclists and better relationships with the motoring public. Promoting body acceptance and less oil dependence ('More Ass - Less Gas') is a prevalent theme.
I do not know the alcohol regulations on serving nude customers. I know that it occurs frequently at private events. The regulations that get the most press target sexually oriented businesses. My guess is that if the business isn't listed as a SOB, then those regulations would not apply. Again, I have not researched the definition of a SOB. Well, as it applies to this post.
During the 2 rides held this year, we stopped at 1 craft brewery (Below the Radar), and 5 bars. Our illustrious leader had contacted each of the facilities and asked if they would be open to serving us. We would cover (genitals) if asked and always covered the seats before sitting. The first bar we stopped at on the second ride was the only one to raise a protest. Each of the other stops were quite inviting and accepting.
2 separate groups sponsor the rides. One is a loosely held nudist group ('Socially Nude H-Town') and a local arts group ('Southmorehouse Presents').
