Some pretty neat fungi there, Jbee.
In the UK fungi fruiting bodies mostly appear in the autumn when it is soggy and dank in the woods.  I always thought that mushrooms needed lots of wet ut seemingly they are equally happy to flourish in near desert conditions provided they have a lump of dead wood to chew on!

THese need water, so when it rains, they take advantage. They do wood, but many pop out of soil. I've had some in my driveway, a very dry place and dirt lots. This was a riparian place with a meandering creek bed, which collects water, leaves and makes soil. I would figure that there would be more humidity trapped in that gully.
