Coping with cold weather
« on: February 11, 2020, 01:23:33 PM »
Here's something for discussion: how do you cope with cold weather as a nudist?

On this point, giving that this is a 'free-range' mentality forum, the assumption is that you want to be nude as much as possible, rather than confining your time, like golfers do, to just when they're at the club. There is also the assumption that it being February, it's at least on the cool side wherever you live or will be whenever you schedule winters. It's supposed to be 60° in Phoenix, 43° in St. Louis, and, ah!, 85° in Orlando. That may have something to do with why old folks move to Florida.

Anyway, I figured you probably do something or you'd go crazy if you weren't able to be nude everyday (another assumption).

Due to the fact that my wife has health issues our home is kept warmer than what most people do. So with all the additional insulation and other weatherproofing plus a high efficiency furnace I can be quite comfortable nude indoors. As for free range anything over 50F with no wind is tolerable to me. It's just with no tree or leaf cover there are not many places to go outside.

I look for opportunities and go for them. I sweat/sauna. I kept my strawbale super insulated home nice and toasty. The last months there, it was sold and the heat pump went out. It was efficient, but it also efficiency kept the place cold with little to heat it back up. Anyway, I got through with sweat clothes and tea, during cold. A space heater in strategic spots helped.

Its been cold here, A LOT. I'm going down to a Oaxacan beach for a couple of weeks. When I get back winter will be probably be pretty much done, just possibly a cold snap here and there.

It's been an incredibly warm winter this far. Highs in the 60's - 70s until yesterday. Today was 50°F all day, but wet and nasty. So, I've been lucky to have a lot of opportunities to enjoy the chores while barefoot all over.
The GF and I are heading to Zipolite this weekend for some clothesfree distraction. Hoping for a brief overlap with JBee's trip. I just found out that Nick & Line (Naked Wandering) are still in Zipolite staying after the festival. Maybe our paths will cross with them as well.
Anyway, Blue Train, it's a great topic starter. I don't feel like I'm actively looking for naked opportunities, rather wondering why I need to dress or what I can get by with to be comfortable.

Ah! Safebare's assertion that dressing is the exceptional is sadly a luxury of those in hot climates.
The weather in the UK at the moment is foul.  High winds (enough to blow a hole in my roof twice in 2 weeks dammitt! :( ), driving rain (causing widespread flooding) and whilst the temperatures are a bit above normal if you go outside even clothed you quickly feel the wind chill and about 50% of the day in the last week or so, after a few minutes you are well on the way to getting soaked.  What I do is stay inside!  Even then with the central heating on, clothes are necessary mor often than not although happily I am naked as I write this.  Roll on the summer I say.
As is usual for me nowadays, in the winter (that is, October to March or April) if there is a cold sunny clear day or a crisp starlit night I often go out in the garden naked for a little while.  There is usually a breeze and so time is limited to an enjoyable 'airbath' of a few minutes or a quarter hour duration.
I don't cope with cold weather as a rule...I just get a bit depressed by it.
I can go to my not very local naturist swim in the cold months, which I do from time to time but there seems often something in the diary to prevent it.  I just put the 2020 swim dates into my diary and the first clear day to go, due to a holiday and other engagements is mid April!!!
I try to do indoor chores in the buff and if that involves, say, taking the trash out or fetching something from outside/garage, all the better done naked.
As I sit typing, I am cooling down rapidly albeit that the temperature is about 65-68F.  There's a bit of a draught due to the 40mph winds outside.
Hey ho.  I hope we have a nice summer....

I feel like I should be naked all I possibly can be.  I need it,  it's just good for me.    It's been a very mild winter so far and had more than normal naked work time for January.   And I generally sleep naked beside the wood stove until the temp gets too cold at night and it seeps in through the cracks and thin walls too much.    But in the interest of staying naked all possible time,  and in the interest of healthy diet.  I decided to just go for it and build fence around some acres up on the mountainside where I can finish clearing it in time and plant orchard and gardens.  So this winter it's back and forth between working on equipment and clearing fence row with chainsaw and cutting fence posts.  Nude when I can be and clothed when necessary.    The track loader I've been working on for many weeks is finished and hopefully will run good to finish making fence row,   then I need to haul the rolls of fencing up and roll them out,   go borrow the fence post auger and set the posts.     Etc.      Hopefully get it done before time to plant in the spring.    But then there's the mowing machine I need to build in the shop yet.    At least the ole kubota is ready to go.  It's my roto tiller.   It's definitely easier to work both in shop and forest when it doesn't drop below freezing,  fortunately it's not been dropping below freezing very often,  one or two nights a week more or less.    When I find time in the next year or three I plan to build myself a much better dwelling,  small and simple but tighter and well insulated,   with a fireplace to lounge in front of. Just one room with fireplace in the middle perhaps.  Haven't decided where to build it, somewhat portable might be nice so I can move it.  But fire places don't lend themselves to portability.  So maybe two such dwellings would have to do.  One down by the shop and the other back of the naturist farm area.    The old log cabins around here built back in the 1800's were generally one room,   sometimes two cabins face to face with a breezeway between them,   I pass two such cabin remains on the hike Saturday,   just two tumbled chimneys on each one. And a 3rd obvious homestead site where I can't find the cabin site,  probably obliterated by logging since then since the most likely spot was made a log loading site sometime in the last 60 years.   Homesteads of the pioneers who settled the area,  their farms reverted back to forest.  As I pass by I imagine the many years of hard work they did to survive way back in the remote reaches of the Tennessee  back country.   Far more remote then than now,   with a 4 lane highway within a couple miles.  Back then it woulda been an all day rough trek with mule and wagon to get out to civilization.  Stay overnight in town and return the next day.

Each of us must compromise and accommodate to fit certain situations, whether weather or culture must be recognized. Lying naked in the hammock on the roof of hotel Teresa is a true luxury.
I did get the opportunity to sit down with Nick& Lins, Naked Wanderings, on Sunday. Truly wonderful people with a decidedly different approach than those of us that espouse the wonders of clothesfree adventures. Then again, not so different after all. Their travels and stories venture more into established venues, less 'free range' but our philosophies on nudity, acceptance and many other values are completely aligned.
My GF can't stop talking about how much she enjoyed their company.
More to come when I return to civilization. If indeed I can be persuaded to return🤪🌞🌞⛱️👣👣
