We were gifted Russian wool sauna hats. They work measurably well. I can tolerate more heat, be more comfortable in extreme heat. My body regulates better.

So, warm hats are more than shade and keeping the sunburn from my nose.

Outside, the winter has been dragging on, until suddenly last week, the heat came on. It shot to the 90F's over night. It almost broke 100F one day. I am comfortably nude, reluctant to dress to go shopping in hot outfits and just loving 24/7 nude comfort. There is a huge difference. Hopefully, this will stay in the mid-80F's and low 90's, my favorite kind of weather. No more desert prickers this year around the house. Just the occasional hat, or do rag and on Sundays, my wool sauna cap.

Out in the yard with projects. Digging a veggie garden.

So - Let's have a photo of the hats at least, if not you both wearing them!  Whilst I have no experience of a wooly hat in a sauna I can't think how wearing warm clothing protects you from the heat!  I suppose it must be insulation working to slow down heat ingress as well as it does slowing heat egress in the cold.

Body heat escapes out of the head mostly. When it is trapped, the body regulates better, or so I sort of understand it. I am certain that it has a dramatic effect, so I can stay in the box longer and more comfortably, getting more benefit and having more fun.

A pic will follow...when I have time after DF gets back from visiting her mom. They look silly, like mushrooms or dwarfs. As more of us get them, we are joking that we are becoming a bizarre cult.

Google "Russian Sauna Hat" check images.

Lucky you.  Here it is April 20, and we had snow last night again.  29F, -2C.   Warming up only to 40 something F today.  Still too cold for me outside.

Dear me! Weather is going 'doolalley tap' (as we say in the UK) all over the world.  We've also had a cold wet April but not as extreme as Spokane!
Sympathies.

July 4th weekend on Friday it was a high of 95. Sunday - 109. Those are the official temps.  Monday and Tuesday at my house it was 114. Just gettin' started on summer. 2 more months of HOT.

Years ago Mrs. E used to travel to Phoenix frequently for her work. It's hotter there than here. She remembers walking across asphalt parking lots and the heels on her shoes sinking into the pavement.

Originally from Deolali, a town in India where, in the days of the Raj, there was a mental hospital, as we would call it today, where the Europeans were sent when the heat got too much for them. The soldiers' "'e's gorn Deolali" became "doollaley".

I read they had snow in South Africa.   Rare.   We here are lucky to be 80s F.   I don't know what that is in C.

I read a fairly credible science about the 230 year cold/hot cycles that brought famine and death to Europe a few centuries ago.  We are at the end of the warm cycle that began about 1800.  Gravitational alignments that cause climate cycles also increase volcanic activity.  On the whole I prefer it warm.

These climate extremes are caused by the poles heating up more than the rest, disrupting the norms in things like the jet streams. One thing leads to another. In Arizona, the effects are combining with the El Nino/La Nina systems the last couple of years. We will experience more and more irregularities and extremes as a result.

There is no monsoon this year. It is too hot. 110F nearly 30 days in a row passed the Solstice is unheard of. Just as shattering records 100 days in a row was. Freezing temps way below 25F. No rain for a year. It is all traced to the heating of the arctic and then the rest. It is in direct correlation with the carbon and overall global averages. All Accepted, corroborated science.

Now, you tell me that there is a cyclic norm happening, too? But there are no norms, just abnorms.

Too much for discussion here.

We just spent 25 days on top of a mountain naked to escape the extreme heat.

Nuduke and Peter,

I've heard colloquial expressions from the UK before but not being from there, I've never heard that one.
Peter's explanation concerned the "doolally" word. Here the word "tap" is explained.

I can relate to the source of the word "tap" (heat). 116 on Sunday, 114 yesterday. Right now at 10:00 am it's 104.

More of the patois is exchanged between our communities.

The rest of the week will be 109F to 112F. Yesterday, we took granddaughter up to 9200FT. on Mt. Lemon to escape the heat and do a short hike and picnic. It was fine there, but the grey clouds began to collect quickly. It began to sprinkle and by the time we ran back to the picnic blanket we were in a down-pore. As we arrived at the car, hail began.

We decided to go to Summer Haven a sort of town up there and get indoors for a treat. Before the time we got there, the dime size hail had us creeping at 20mph, then the floods in the roads and creek. Hey,  it wasn't hot!

We drove back down in clear weather to the mountain's base in Tucson and Italian ice cream. Hot, but then cooling enough to sit on the patio (eek! steel chairs!) by the time we got our scream. As we finished, the wind picked up and dark clouds were coming from the south. A thousand feet down the road, hail! Nickle size hail was flying into the car sideways. It sounded like rocks.

Soon enough, as we headed into it, I figured it best to stop and just take it rather than increasing the velocity of the impacts.

I then noticed it looking like it was visiting my house across the valley and amazing lightning. We got back home a couple of hours later. Branches down, flooding, the wash still a river. The mini-split freaked out at the change in temp humidity and barometric pressure. First rain in well over a month, in the MONSOON SEASON! You know, the season of daily showers.

Today, it is back in the 109F range, plus extra humidity. Sunday, the laundry from a month vacation dried generally as fast as we hung it up on a line.

My air-conditioner is acting up, one is broken, the swamp-box cooler is swampy and acting up. It IS cooler in the shade and I'm doing periodic outdoor showers to cool off, although the water isn't particularly cool. Sun tea works great in this sh---t. AND, OF COURSE, I'M NAKED completely naked, except when I go outside out of the shade and don't want to burn my feet. I have to cool the bricks with water before I can stand to take the showers.

It is too hot to work on the air-conditioner. I am grateful for the swamp-box, my big shade tree, and the part of the mini split that still seems to be working in the B&B. I have to wonder what this is costing$$$$. I liked being on top of that mountain range, mid-70F's to mid-80's (not usual) with cool nights in a tent, heating with cozy blankets and a wood but burning stove (lots of free wood to burn).

NONE of this is normal. All of this is extremes, historic extremes. Extremes that are increasing, weird stuff. People in Atlanta choking on smoke from historic fires in Canada that I can see from space on National Weather Service! World wide record heat, days on end! Polar cap is navigable! Vermont getting even more rain flooding than the historic flooding that drowned them from a hurricane a few years ago.

When the jet stream gets pushed around by polar heat there is a chain reaction, all the way around the planet. All I I can do is get naked and learn to put up with it...and rant.

Oh yea. I just went out to hang the laundry and remembered that my sun tea had been out there an hour or more. It is very strong! Forgot, it can be instant tea out there on days like this!

Peer reviewed "Study Finds Human Activity Responsible for Record July Heat Waves." "Scientists at World Weather Attribution say a rapid analysis of weather data taken this month across China, southern Europe and the American Southwest show high levels of carbon dioxide and other gases helped drive temperatures by as much as four-and-a-half degrees Fahrenheit above pre-industrial levels."

The study is at "World Weather Attribution" website. They are supported by what looks to be legit backing.

Really bad news is that this will be more likely to repeat and every 2 to 5 years. It is a string of heat days on the general Earth that likely hasn't occurred in the last 100,000 years.

Since nothing is likely to be done to mitigate the climate changes, we'll just have to adapt to the extremes (more and various extremes are listed in other studies on the website).

I'm insulating, learning to self-install mini split airconditioners, arranging to spend more time glamped out in the high mountains and arranging my life as nude friendly as possible. A cool plunge pool to go with the outdoor shower. Growing shade trees which are heat and drought tolerant (no real monsoon yet, less than an inch of rain, barely a tenth of normal at this time).

So, I opine, that naked and first nearly naked will become a necessary norm in these regions of the world. fashion will have to adapt. Culture and attitudes will have to adopt. Strike while the iron is hot would be the double entendre response.

In Tucson, people do not wear business suits and never have. Light shirts that breathe for men are acceptable in most occasions. Some guys never wear long pants, other than winters. Women are used to wearing light revealing garb.

People wearing smaller more revealing garb get used to it and less than that doesn't seem like such a big step.

On the other hand, my friends that come to the sweat and love being able to be naked, tell me that they wouldn't be topfree or nude most places, because they would feel unsafe.

The streets are noticeably more empty during these summer months. It feels like covid or twenty or thirty years ago when the population was much less.

The leftist political scam goes on.   Meanwhile our natural warm and cold cycles are about 230 years long and our warm century is mostly behind us.  Even that wasn't as warm as prior cycles.

My wife has committed to retirement at the end of 2023.  We will spend the first half of 2024 closing and selling our home here and moving to Arizona. We've been looking at Sun City which apparently is retiree friendly.   We do need to look at Tucson as well.

Come on down and as I've said before, I'll be glad to help out. Which Sun City would you be interested in? Golf course fairway home? The lots have gotten pretty small over the years, elbow room and privacy considered. That is in Phoenix. It's very hot in the summer. You might consider a trailer of some summer home to escape.

All of the leftist political scammers are factoring in and in consideration of the cyclic events that you are referring to, in their studies. In this study that I just presented. Things are happening way past that. Lots of new science out there. We all need to recognize that there is a problem and address it, but I believe that it is not likely to happen. Instead, we are going to have to mitigate the climate change in our personal lives.

It may become patriotic to be naked and save energy in Arizona, within our lifetimes. 8) ::) ;D
