There you go with all that technical speak.

What's a 'NAS'?  ;D

Duane
Duane,

Acronym Finder reports this as Network Attached Storage and goes on to define it as: (NAS) Fixed disks, RAID arrays, and magnetic tape drives connected directly to a Storage Area Network (SAN) or other direct network connection. This is in contrast to a file server where the peripherals are connected to the network via a computer (the server).

In simple terms it is a disk drive that attaches to your home network and can be used as an external drive, to perform automatic back-ups and to permit files to be accessed over the internet (so long as you leave the drive and your router live).

Have fun,

Ian.

Jbee,

Is the photo you posted at the beginning of this topic attached here using this website photo posting features?

It doesn't look like the one I did over on Ian's tutorial.

Yup, its just standard. I have tried shrinking them down past 100KBs, but then they blow up pretty small. The 144 worked good enough, but that is just under the limit. On my own site, I have to leave them around 300 to get them to fill the screen, just like TSNS.

I've been fiddling with widgets, tabs and menu education. That is a filling task, so when I'm done this gets passed on for another day.

I loved that saguaro. The historic freeze got it and a dozen others a few years ago. It was a sad day to find it unrecognizable.

Yeah, that crest looks like a hand.

It could be 'Hello' or 'Stop! Go no further!'.

Did it die or just damaged?

Trying different clickable sizes.

Text on the left with enought to move the picture across the screen to see if it will wrap, no, need a little more Text on the right
Tarantula

Bowl of Fire

I prefer the larger image, but I wish they had a size between thumbnail and small.

Ian! Your tutorial worked the 1st time. Many thanks.
I owe you the BEER I won't be having.

As soon as I have verified I've got my restrictions set properly on Flickr, I'll see about posting some SN photos.

I use flickr, but after copying their code I delete everything outside of the {img}....{/img} codes.   That posts the photo, but doesn't url back to my flickr account.

Does it get posted at a lower resolution than the original?

Bob,

I think you may be using the "share" icon from the flickr photo page (the one immediately to the left of the download icon circled in this image).

I used to use the share icon, but stopped when Flickr changed their code in such a way that the icon is now not operational unless the picture is set to allow sharing (quite a logical change). Since I upload any naked pics as both private and restricted the share icon no longer works for me, hence my use of the download option.

Posting the pictures as I recommended also ensures that there is no link into my photostream or account.

Have fun,

Ian.

I have a question.

When I uploaded my pictures they went into a page called "Camera Roll" (it's amazing how old terminology hangs on) where they are organized by date. In order to have access to post them here, they must be in "Photo Stream". They won't show up there unless I label each photo as "Public".

I have set my permissions as "Private" and "Restricted", and have logged into Flickr under a different name and so far haven't been able to see them on a Public page. Does labeling them as Public in "Camera Roll" make them truly public even thought my permissions are set to deny public access?

The Flickr site doesn't have a FAQ regarding this, at least I haven't found it yet, if they do.

Duane,

I believe that the Camera Roll and the Photostream are simply different ways of organising the same pictures. Although my instructions refer to the photostream they work equally well from the camera roll (clicking on the picture in the Photostream or the two back to back arrows that appear in the top right corner of a picture when you hover over it in the Camera Roll will take you to the same page, which is the one in which I ringed the download icon).

I have not tested recently, but public in one view always made the picture public in all (ie the public / private attribute (and also the safe / restricted attribute) is attached to the picture, irrespective of the method by which it is accessed).

Have fun,

Ian.

Ok, thanks.

I went back and changed the privacy on the Golden Gate Bridge photo in the 'Posting pictures to the forum' thread and the image disappeared from my post. I did the same on the photos above and one remained and one didn't. Puzzling!

I went back to Flickr and the files I had changed back to private no longer appeared in Photostream and were only visible in Camera Roll. I double clicked on the image and was able to redo the posting per your instructable. It worked!

The images are now appearing here as intended.

Flickr's privacy attributes are not clearly defined on their site when applied to Camera Roll and Photostream. One must consult the guru, Ian.

I shall check from another computer and name to see if the privacy holds.

I'm a little antsy about putting pictures of me naked on a site that is frequented by so many people. I had posted pictures of me on TSNS but I was less worried about them. The SNS site had regular visitors, but not on the scale of Flickr.

Maybe I'm being a little anal, but it's a matter of me getting comfortable with working on a site that is that popular.

I remember a picture on TSNS of a naked guy. He was naked, except for diving mask, snorkel and flippers and was laying in about 12-14 inches of snow, pretending to swim. It was in one of Alf's posts and I had assumed it was him.

I was checking out a site that had a lot nudity, I eventually decided that it wasn't a site I wanted to frequent, but in scanning the site, I saw that picture.

Now I don't know whether Alf grabbed that picture from there or the other way around, but it reminded me that when you put something out on the net, it is out on THE NET.

I'm just going slow.

Your hesitation or caution is entirely reasonable Duane. There is no sense in doing anything online that you are  not comfortable with.

I came to the conclusion that I don't really mind if people know I am a naturist, being honest about things is generally easier than trying to remember what I've told each individual. Flickr privacy seems to be OK. I am not aware of anything marked as private leaking out from there, but you have to assume that sooner or later something will escape and keep your content in a range you can tolerate going public.

I do not advertise my naturism but \I don't try to hide it either. If the subject comes up naturally, I will discuss it openly but I tend not to introduce it into conversations unless there has been a clear hint beforehand.

Have fun,

Ian.

Duane,
Presumably your flickr account is for 'eyesup' or similar.  Assuming you haven't used real credentials, that should give you a measure of anonymity and therefore privacy even if it were a public site.  When you posted photos on TSNS they were always discreet as to your identity so chances of discovery via flickr are small, I would think.  When we met, whilst I recognised you as middle height and dark hair from the TSNS pics, I wouldn't have been able to identify you in the flesh even from the TSNS pics if it wasn't obvious who you were on entering the hotel foyer when I was fully expecting you!
