Much of May has been cold and windy, but not as much rain as usual. Getting out on my land I found that I have several dead and downed pine trees so I've been cutting them up for firewood. Neither of my 16 year old Homelite chain saws would work even though I had both of them serviced last fall, about $100 each. So I bought a new Echo "Timberwolf" chain saw. Its got 10 more cc's and more power than my old Homelite saws. Its a little large and heavier, but it cuts like a champ. It starts so easily that I turn it off frequently when limbing the trees, and start it again to cut the next limb. Except when right out at the edge of the road I have been able to do my wood cutting naked.
Wood cutting is hard work so it gets hot in heavy clothing. I do get occasional bruises or dings from the work but its not worth being uncomfortable in clothing. When the trees are cut into blocks, the blocks have to be split and then stacked. Getting it done in spring will let the wood dry out for 6 months before keeping us warm next winter.
I also post these images on Twitter, and sometimes Reddit. Doing my mart to make naked into normal for younger generations.
This picture was early in May. By the end of May I have 2 full rows stacked above head high in my wood shed, and about 1/2 a 3rd row.
Splitting wood with my hydraulic wood splitter. Much easier than the sledge and wedge method. Once split it goes into a wheelbarrow to be stacked
