Fall Folage and FRN Tour
« on: November 02, 2015, 05:07:07 PM »
The misses talked me into one last trip before the winter and the final winterizing of our camper. I have to admit there was not much interest in the trip plus the fact that a number of repairs had to be done before we left. However, with the promise of what seemed to be a good weekend weather wise plans were made to leave Friday. Early Friday morning the camping gods had me log in to the reservation site and on a whim I did. The surprise was that only 26 camping sites were available out of near 300! In act by the time we reached to park only four places were left so the reservation got me a better site. It was the peak viewing time for the leaves so many made the trek to enjoy the views and the mild weather. That meant the weekend was filled with textiles walking the woods and enjoying the colors. Other areas nearby that had been used on my part for any FRN were now designated hunting areas. Archery season for deer and small game such as squirrels and rabbit for guns. I don't have to add that my nude body would seem out of place in the sea of blaze orange textile hunters! We filled the weekend with seeing the sites, drinking brews and finding local places to dine. Here are some photos from the area of our camp site with more to follow later.

I had hoped to continue the trip report however it seems that my computer has given up the ghost. So for the time being my only access here will be through the iPhone. Plus it seems that I will be blessed with 4 days of what is referred to as "Indian summer"! Temps in the mid 70's and sunny skies for the next 2 days.

It seems that my computer has both a virus and malware so it will be awhile before pictures are available if they haven't been lost. It was not delivered to the computer guru I use until late this evening because it was too good of a day to waste and not get at least a nude walk.  I promise to catch up as soon as the computer is returned.

The weekend was not likely to provide any chance for free range activities so when the wife suggested a side trip to visit our daughter I agreed only to escape. Sunday morning was busy as many others were packing ip and moving out of the park. When we left the line at the dump station was fore deep! The drive was spectacular as the colors were at peak. Our visit went well however our daughter was overwhealmed woth the spector of report cards and the early parent/teacher conferences looming. As a treat her mom had me go grocery shopping in order to cook her favorite meal. It was obvious the stress level dropped after supper but returned as she didn't want us to leave. But that made for a wonderful drive back to the camper as the almost full moon lit up the clear sky.

Now I know what everyone reading this is thinking and your right; night naked time! We drove around the campground to see that only a few people remained so upon arrival at the camper I got the misses comfortable (tv, snack and a glass of wine) and I went outside to walk in the moonlight. I did try a trail but the leaf cover made seeing much difficult but with an empty campground the roadways were perfect. And it was not too cold so I sat outside and listened to the sounds of the night with a glass (or two) of wine. Just past midnite I grabbed a towel and washhouse bag and walked to the showerhouse. Clean and refreshed, towel over the shoulder and bag in hand there was a leasurly stroll back. Mrs. Walker was fast asleep and I crawled into bed with visions of more nude adventures in the morning!

I'm going to continue the narritive using the misses laptop as my guru says it may take awhile on my computer. So Monday dawned clear and cool with two interesting things on the local news. First; a local man had gone missing on a nearby body of water and search divers were in the water. That prompted a comment from the misses, "No skinny dipping as I don't want to explain your naked ass body!'. Second; the remains of hurricane Patrica were headed our way with much rain expected. Or in other words, no more campers will be pulling in with that kind of weather expected.

As soon as the pot of coffee finished and covered by a running kilt it was time to enjoy outside time. Besides the morning chill there was a dampness in the air fortelling the comming rain. Being able to relax and not worry about southern exposure with my coffee I could watch the falling leaves and the woodland creatures trying to meet their deadline of nut gathering. The only disturbance was the cleaning crew at the nearby showerhouse. When their chores were finished they drove by our camper before reaching the cul-de-sac and returning. One questioned if we had heard of the storm approaching and then told me that the campers clustered in the one area was due to the bathhouse being the only one with heat. Just the kind of knowledge one gains from years of free range and a bit of secret naturism to plan their next move. When the sound if the van's motor vanished so did my clothes and off for an adventure!

The campground has one long main road with seven other roads ending on cul-de-sacs. Our loop as it is described ends near the lake with a connecting path to a small beach. Almost all the loops have connecting paths plus a nature trail so as long as I avoided the populated area there is relative safety. The ground had a thick covering if leaves so they could be kicked ahead much like a walk on the snow. Quite a few squorrels barked their disapproval of a naked man disturbing the gathering of the winter stores. Plus a number of crows made warniing calls ahead of my arrival. The only downsides to the walk was the lack of cover near the main roadway and the number of fishermen on the lake. Still it was easy enough to cut back and forth and enjoy the cool crisp air enough that I broke a sweat from the effort.

The rest of the day consisted of doing chores and repairs around camp and wandering off from time to time just to enjoy the solitude. I did find my headlamp packed in a toolbox so later that night on the same trails and roadways a naked stroll was had before shower and bed. And the misses will add that my mood had improved considerably!

And since I got the computer back there had to be an edit to include some pictures! Sorry didn't mean to post the same one twice!

Nice job of finagling opportunities, figuring boundaries and getting out there with a grin, making the most of it. I haven't kicked leaves around in decades. I don't think that I've ever done it naked.

Reports like this are adding to a back east bucket list. Maybe an extended voyage back east a couple of years  from now should be considered. I was just looking at youtube Appalachian trail videos a couple of evenings ago. The grenenity (my word) can be overwhelming for a desert rat like me after many years away. It's like visiting another planet with hints of my past sprinkled in. DF flies back once or twice a year to visit, but I'd probably need to drive and soak things in from the different perspective years create.

Thanks for the inspiring report.

Tuesday morning provided what had to be the thickest fog I had ever experienced! As I gave the misses a cup of coffee while she was still in bed and informed her of the fog she just mumbled "ok" and fell back asleep. Outside with my coffee I sat and watched the ebb and flow of the white stuff inching closer to block my view of the tree line then pulling back to reveal what was hidden. There was a siren effect so when the coffee was finished the empty mug was placed on the picnic table and I joined the moving swirl of the shroud. The coolness of the moisture was tempered with the heat from the exercise and excitement as steps were retraced on the paths and roadways. The only sound to be heard was the rustling of the leaves beneath my feet as I walked through the surreal landscape. As the main highway outside the park was approached the sounds of vehicles could be heard but not seen. Even the lake had it's own calmness, just a few ripples in the water near the shore and the fog covering the vast expanse of water. Sitting on the beach for awhile the lure was too much and I at least had to walk in knee deep so the sand could be washed off my butt. Lost in the adventure I finally began to make my way back to the camper as the fog began to lift leaving a gray overcast day and the promise of rain from what was left of the hurricane later.

The misses had just begun to stir upon my arrival and needed a warm up on the morning drink. We discussed our options for the day as the local TV weather people continued to warn of heavy downpours, winds and maybe even thunder and lightning. Going home was not one of the options as the camper would have to be winterized first and then we couldn't outrun the rain. Plus supplies would have to be bought first which meant a trip to town. She said think about it so filling up my mug I went outside to think clearly. As I sat there it dawned on me that since yesterday morning when I dropped the running kilt after the cleaning crew left that I had been naked over 24 hours in what is usually a busy state park! But all good things do come to an end as after we weighed the pros and cons it was decided we would drive to the nearest shopping plaza so I could get the antifreeze and maybe dine out and a movie? So I prepared the site for the deluge being predicted before heading to the shower. As I returned from cleaning myself up it began to rain lightly and soon the nude streak came to an end.

As much as I am embarrassed by posting two of the same pictures last night I hope to make amends today. Jbee, if you can imagine shuffling your feet to kick up these leaves?

Since this does not appear to be a day that I will be able to partake in what had become a routine free range daily walk and may be stuck here for awhile there is no reason not to continue.

Tuesday was as promised, the rains came very heavy at times even to the point of having to pull over after vision was lost. We made the rounds to Kmart and a few other places before settling on an Italian restaurant with a wonderful atmosphere. After the Shrimp Scampi and Veal Parmesan were ordered a bottle of wine was opened to toast our adventure. With the restaurant not being crowded we laughed like a couple of school kids as I recounted my adventures from earlier in the day. The misses still couldn't believe that I managed so much time naked as this campground could remind one of an ant hill, with people and vehicles moving constantly. Instead of rushing to get a movie in we dallied and enjoyed dinner, another bottle of wine and a dessert. Where we sat we could hear the rain pounding against the windows over the piped in music. Feeling that a return to the camper would be our best option the bill was paid and we headed for the door. By this time the parking lot was a pond, water running in streams in the gutters and it was still pouring buckets! being the gentleman I am misses was instructed to wait under the overhang while I went for the vehicle. Yes, I got soaked but she remained dry as I drove under the entrance way roof. As we began to pull away the wetness started getting to me so stopping at the end of the lot the contortions began to get myself free of the clothes. Once naked and comfortable we began the drive to the camper. Upon arrival I instructed Mrs. Walker to sit tight as I went to get the umbrella from the RV which should have gone with us in the first place. Once in and dried off it was time to hunker down for the night and fall sleep to the sound of the rain on the roof.

In the middle of the night, around 3AM or so, the misses awoke me to the sound of the awning flapping in the breeze. We have lost one before so I went outside to roll it up before any damage could be done. It was still raining and the fabric was covered with fallen leaves. Once it was dropped the attempt to sweep away as many wet leaves as I could resulted in a futile effort. So I just rolled it up into a position of safety and went back inside. There I was greeted with a dry towel and a cup of tea to warm with before climbing under the sheets.

The morning brought much of the same, rain and wind but the promise from the weather people that it would end by evening followed by strong gusty winds and a cold front. Coffee and breakfast in the camper followed by a clean up. Not wanting to venture out Mrs. Walker decided it would be a good day to relax and read and I began to make plans for our drive home. With the winds predicted there was no hurry as towing a trailer in those conditions is no fun and reluctantly I dressed to go to the park office to pay for more days on our spot. Speaking with a ranger he gave me a map of the areas of the park that were off limits to hunters if I wished to change my hiking views. It was midafternoon and the rain had let up some so it seemed a good time to head for the shower. Besides the warm water would feel good on this body and it kept me from being depressed over the change n the weather. After a long hot shower which I used to remove some body hair and tidy up other places I emerged from the shower house to a light drizzle and brighter skies. In fact when the radar was checked on my phone it showed a break in the rain coming soon. Once that window opened off I went to see what had transpired. All the paths were covered in a thick coat of freshly fallen leaves  that made it seem as if one was walking on carpet. Making the loops to avoid being seen as most of the cover was gone was a waste of time as no one was out and about. By the time I circled back to the camper the sun had peaked through so I grabbed the camera and headed to the lake.

Wednesday night after dinner I was able to take advantage of the moonlight and the fact that the storm had removed most of the leaves to get in a night hike still following the paths and roadways around the campground. Being damp and colder I figured that even in the populated area of the place no one would be out and about. Once again it proved to me that being aware of the area and using the knowledge gained over the years free range can be accomplished in some of the most populated spots. The thought crossed my mind to start a campfire upon returning but I feared that the winds might throw sparks even though things were still soaked.

Over night the winds did pick up with gusts predicted in the 40-50MPH range. It was enough to shake the trailer early in the morning so the day began just before sunrise. Not wanting to waste any opportunity a short walk was in order while the coffee was brewing and the misses slept it off. Once again the woodland creatures were hard at work finding and storing new found nuts that had fallen in the storm.  After coffee and breakfast I head to another area of the park that the ranger told me was off limits to hunters. On the drive there I actually passed him as he made his rounds of the park looking for violators I assume. When I arrived at the parking lot it was empty but not knowing this area was wary so remaining clothed I ventured out. It wasn't long before the comfort level grew to the point that the running kilt and shirt made it's way into the back pack. Not quite as glorious as the previous hikes as the leaves were well past peak I walked to an access road used be emergency vehicles which marked the line of the no hunting zone. Reluctantly I turned back not wanting my white bum to be confused with a white tail! This time however I made it back to the vehicle naked and before leaving decided to walk it again before leaving. This time I only had the camera in tow!

How big is this playground? The lake seems to stretch nearly to the horizon, some places require driving to get to, hunting and non.

Quick answer Jbee. Alum Creek in Ohio is 4630 acres with a 3387 acre lake. The first five miles or so from the dam is about a mile wide, next eight is nearer to a quarter mile. The park surrounds the lake about a quarter to half mile from shore. It is usually quite a busy place but the perfect storm scenario made it my paradise for the week!

Most of the day Thursday was spent getting the camper ready for winter storage. All the food removed, clothes packed except what we planned to wear on the trip home and setting up the rest to be packed away for the winter. In the late afternoon I just couldn't resist another stroll to the lake. The winds had died down some so there was not the wind chill factor from the earlier hike. I returned and loaded up the SUV with things for the trip home and more or less relaxed the rest of the night.

Friday morning around 3AM I woke up dry mouthed from the furnace running. In fact I was surprised to see it was 36F outside! Once again there was the urge to go explore my wonderland one more time so slipping outside as not to wake the misses barefoot and naked as I was born. The thrill of doing another completely naked hike as was done earlier in the year. The sky was bright enough that even with the light clouds the moon shone through enough to light the way. The carpet of fallen leaves gave more than enough protection to the feet. After the initial chill the exercise provided enough heat to be comfortable. I only did a short loop of maybe a half mile but it was enough to satisfy the craving. Crawling back into bed I slept like a baby!

We began to stir about 8:30 that morning and as coffee was being made voices were heard outside the camper. For the first time since Sunday people were actually walking on the roadways. I chuckled as the story of last nights walk was told and the contrast as it appeared that one of the women that passed had a winter coat! So naked time was over as the place once again became busy. Everything else went off without a problem and soon we passed a number of campers headed to my playground as we drove home.

This last picture is from the last walk to the lake.
