Favourite places for free range naturism
« on: August 14, 2013, 08:59:40 PM »
I thought it would be good to have a thread for people to discuss their favourite places for practising free range naturism so that it could be useful for inspiring others.

For me it's a toss up between skinny dipping in a rock pool or scrambling on all fours up a rocky mountain side. A good rock pool that combines the two is the perfect combination for me.

I'd agree with the skinny dipping Karla, especially in small mountain lakes and plunge pools in the rivers, but I don't have the agility for scrambling any longer. I love walking the high ridges naked though. For a favourite place I'd probably go for the Fairy Pools on Skye.

If free range is defined as any naturism that is not factory farmed, set on a reservation, or very organized and safe, then any place and any thing I do is favored by being naked. I’m nude most of the time, the exception being in public, where it is not approved of, or unlawful with too much risk of arrest. Anything that I do without clothes is augmented, be it driving, any mundane task, gardening, etc. To be nude is to open doors of awareness.

My favorite naturist spots are generally anyplace with water. We live in the southwestern United States, in Arizona, and water is very attractive for desert rats. I first got into naturism in water. The pools and hot springs to be had are usually after a hike and somewhat remote. If not there are too many people around, like many rivers and lakes.  With this in mind, places where we have the least likelihood of others making problems. I would refer to these spots as “wide open spaces.” I go to extremes and 4x4 driving to get away. I love it when I can find myself in a huge paradise and know that it is all to myself and water then is the bonus.

I love mountain pools and falls, hot springs. Lake Powell, and farther reaches of Apache Lake are great with a boat. I’m experimenting with river rafts and kayaking to learn to get down protected rivers on two day trips without clothing, or much else.

Water aside, I love nature, and any new terrain and vegetation is attractive. My hiking has lots of stopping to smell the flowers, and photographing wonderment and smiles. I have had great fun searching for, “bagging” crested saguaros in my desert. The desert heat is much less harsh when nude.  I enjoy looking for evidences of ancient Native American lifestyle, around here, these people were kindred naked naturist themselves. When the place has the energy, I meditate, just being, gratitude, and/or that spiritual something.

We are blessed with a variety of natural wonderment where I live, but I also know that there’s no place like home…nude.

i often use local nature reserves which are usually wooded,  the somerset wildlife trust and the woodland trust have several close by, then theres national trust property , really anywhere that allows public access but isnt  used much.   weve also got the levels nearby , a large area of peat moors near sea level with loads of droves to give access to the fields...cos tthe droves are generally  straight and flat you can see anyone coming when theyre still literally miles away

If I'm walking naked I like to do so without being constantly worried I'll meet people who will not appreciate my lack of dress. To that end I choose open spaces were I have a good chance of seeing people approaching. I do believe in the maxim that you can't see what there are wearing they can't see what you're not.

The two main areas for me are the Derbyshire Peak District, The Staffordshire Moorlands and the Welsh Berwyns in the Bala area. The latter is a large area of wild moorland rising to a tad over 800 meters. What I like about this area is the fact you can approach from several directions, one being more popular than the others with a small tea shop, but even there it doesn't take long to be on your own. It's high time I paid the area another visit.

I have favorite places I like to go, which I do when I am looking to go on a day hike.

My favorite types of places are any that are quiet, remote and devoid of human traffic, mechanical or otherwise.  Here in the southwest that usually means the desert.

Like Karla, I like rock scrambling, but I have little to no water for skinny dipping.  There are hot springs around but those that are nearby tend to be busy with visitors.  For me, standing alone in the middle of a desert valley with the only companions being those that live there, is remarkable.

If it's possible to be calmed and invigorated at the same time that describes what it feels like for me.

This forum gives a warning that this topic hasn't been used in over 120 days, but I'm expecting more traffic now that SNS forums died.

Since I live out of town my favorite place to go naked in the woods is my own back yard, all 20 acres.  We also have some former railroad grades that were abandoned and have been taken over by the state parks department as trail parks.  I also sometimes range out to wildlife conservation areas around locally.   Let me see if I can add a photo or two on this forum.

Here is my sign on my land notifying neighbors that its clothing optional.

This is me mowing my drain field area to keep brush from overrunning the place.  You may notice my driveway going out to the county road where occasional vehicles pass by.

This is from a trip to one of the abandoned railroads.  This is near Rock Lake which can be seen in the background here.

Looks a great place Bob!

Oh and people shouldn't worry about reviving old threads. I think it's better to re-use old threads where possible, especially on low traffic forums.

Nice area Bob, reminds me of a family farm I had access to for awhile. Once the gas wells started and the pipelines were being built I lost that little piece of naturist heaven. In fact the influx of oil and gas drillers have taken their toll on the roads, streams and of course places to enjoy naked. And Karla; as more of us hang out here I'm sure more old threads will be dug up!

Hmmm... "Free range" naturism... Well that brings up a vision of my former chicken run, organic sustainable mini farm from years ago.... It was a free range area on my property back in the day, and curiously now it is I who is roaming free range in the same space au naturale.  Time has a distinct sense if humor!

In the wild I prefer natural water and rocky places.  I actually really dislike "club" environments, anything not naturally formed feels very chaotic to me and I get restless.   Tanman and I have been exploring a large lake in Arkansas this past week.  As a geology hobbyist I seek out geologic sites wherever we go.  This is one of our favorite places and we've been coming for four years now and staying about a week.  Water is preferable, ocean, lakes, rivers.  We are fortunate to have many terrains to choose from within a day or two's drive.  Today I scrambled up ancient schist and quartz flows, brittle shale bluffs and sandstone ledges.  I walked along crystal beach and granite pebbles smoothed by eons of waves.  I am like a mountain goat but find aging has out some limitation on my flexibility.

We love the mountains but it is water that draws me the most.  We alternate between ocean bays and lakes mostly.

Lake of the Ozarks, Arkansas, 1985, second ex-wife, temp around 100F and the humidity incredible. We rented a power boat. I had a speedo and a cooler of Heineken, she had a mostly naked pink g-string bikini, and we were off.

Soon naked, we took a tour of the lake. Then, something happened to the power and we stalled in the middle of the lake. A helper stopped by quickly, within minutes. Me sitting in the captain’s chair sliding my suit up my legs, she lying on the deck hiding and scrambling to untangle the mass of strings and tie herself up. I told her that the guy wouldn’t mind. She didn’t get that. I was correct. He didn’t mind the nearly naked swimsuit on her Arizona tanned self, at all. He was very generous and helpful, giving us a tow to his place, until the thing magically started up again, seemingly for no reason.

Out on the water, I had consumed my usual quantity of BEER with the usual well controlled effects. It was cool and a glorious escape from the extreme record heatwave. BUT, when I stepped off the boat and the heat hit me again, I was suddenly staggering. By the time I stepped off of the docking area, I was wasted drunk, hit like a sledgehammer. I couldn’t even trust myself to drive! I wasn’t that kind of drinker. I was perplexed, stunned, my “I can handle it” pride in the craft of BEER drinking dashed. We got to the condo and airconditioner and I recovered, once again naked on the bed.

It was something like sitting in a hot tub drinking, I suppose. The lake was fine then, BAM. We did have a wonderful cruise despite the faulty boat…naked.

I always enjoy the stories everyone shares here.. er, the new "here..."

Once we made it through monsoons to get here (including swift water rescues and floods) it's been quite pleasant.  We are at lake Ouichita then migrating north to see Larry's family at his ancestral home and lake there.

JBee we spend 99% of the day in the water for precisely those reasons of heat and humidity.  I am sun sensitive unlike my lizard companion, and have to wear a water shirt (Columbia, marine wear) to cover my arms and back, and a bandanna under a hat or fishermans hat.  I can snorkel happily for hours that way.  Other than water keens that's it.  If there are humans nearby I can wear a bathing suit bottom and just button the shirt. At camp its a tank and batik sea turtle sarong which is quite nice for any hint of breeze and comfort.

We have the kayaks and splurged on a rental pontoon to putter around.  Choose a direction, find an island or cove, choose terrain, go explore.  I float and kayak and climb the cliffs and lizard dives off the hard canopy and lays out in the sun and listens to me giggle about the latest exquisite rock find. I'm a compulsive rock hound, can't help myself.  I've tried 12 steps but there's always another glittering or unusual specimen just at the thirteenth stride.

The heat is hardest at night when the air goes still. We stay outside til almost midnight to let it cool off. We have a shade canopy and our tech gear to enjoy, a  private beach, great sunsets, fabulous view.  We float after dark and watch the moonlight on the lake.  There are lots of birds and an amazing variety of dragon flies to watch.  We leave today to start the northern migration and have had a wonderful excursion with lots of opportunity for naturism.

The BEER is on ice except for morning stout which we sip for breakfast with avocados and sunflower seeds and a little chocolate before the morning paddle.

The first couple of days here I was able to catch some nice waves to yak surf due to boat traffic, making the best of human activity nearby.  The last couple of days has been very pleasant with minimal human contact and variation in weather fronts to give calm and breezy water conditions.

Duane, what is bagging a crested saguaro?  Like spotting one?

There were 42 crested saguaros documented in my Tortolitas (later that year a dozen perished due to historically low freeze). We took a hiking map and found many of them hiking and photographing them. Like collecting them. They are not next to the trail and are amongst many (it is said that they are one in ten thousand saguaros). I took the term from stories of Karla and Stuart about "bagging Munroes." Thus we bagged several saguaros nude in the desert mountains and made a trip report of it. Kinda geocaching in this instance. I have found one just beginning and previously unknown, up in the Torts. and requested that it be named after DF.

I had this mental image of Lucille Ball in "The Long Trailer". She and hubby (Dezi) were on a road trip with a travel trailer. She had to pick up a rock (most were about the size of a cantaloupe) from every place they visited. Remembering her on the confectioners line, you can imagine the scenes by the end of the trip.

Is it that bad with you?

Yeah, you got me mixed up with Jbee. the saguaro do not grow up here naturally, too cold in the winter. I've seen saguaro, but never a created one.

Say hi to Larry.
Haaave fun in the Ozarks!
